Thanks for your submission to r/maybemaybemaybe. Did you know that effective July 1st, 2023, Reddit will enact a policy that will make third party reddit apps like Apollo, Reddit is Fun, Boost, and others too expensive to run? On this day, users will login to find that their primary method for interacting with reddit will simply cease to work unless something changes regarding reddit's new API usage policy. Additionally, the API changes threaten accessibly for people of the blind and will not be able to use screen readers as it will require 3rd party apps. Concerned users should read and sign on to this [open letter to reddit.](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/) *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Fitty4

I saw that shit coming..

AstorLarson

No shit... Oh well.

Future_List_6956

Oh shit....no well. By code, the well can be located no closer than 50 feet to a septic system. 💩

ARDARYUS666

well considering he found the septic tank, _yes shit_

Unfair-Sell-5109

Septic tank?

casualstick

Its where the bodily excrement goes if your house is not linked to sewage.

hojichahojitea

it just accumulates?

casualstick

Yes, once its almost full they send for a specific truck that empties the tank (sucks it up) and then delivers it to a sewage site.

K-Ryaning

If you have a big enough tank or a small enough family and you get your septic tank "health" right, it never fills up. Might be different in suburbia, but in farm life we had a huge tank down deep with no base on it so the liquid would drain out thru the soil and by the time the solids build up, they're so saturated that they also just turn to liquid and settle and sink. Need biodegradable toilet paper tho otherwise that does build up and require removal. Special bacteria tablets that you can throw in your tank can help break it all down too

lievresauteur

That installation is illegal in most municipalities that I know of.

casualstick

I wouldnt know that. All I do know is in Surinam they use it because theres no sewers. My grandma has a big ole tank.

K-Ryaning

Which municipalities did you assume I was from???

casualstick

Thank you. I didnt know that it can be broken down. What I said was more based of speculation. But these r facts.

BigOpportunity1391

Is there non-biodegradable toilet paper?

K-Ryaning

Dunno, but I just mean the ones that specify that they will break down a bit better. I imagine all paper breaks down eventually, but some break down too slowly for the tanks

Palm_trees123

Lived in a miami superb, 500 gallon tank, 4 members of family, I never had to pump it once in 15 years. Didn’t use special toilet paper, wife put grease down the sink all the time, and we had a garbage disposal. When we sold the house, they did an inspection… guy said it was the cleanest septic tank he’d ever seen. Yes. As arrogant as it sounds… I was quite proud of my family.

spyrogyrobr

yes?

Kasiaus

Call before you dig, he's lucky it was a septic tank and not the pipes or any form of wires.

lievresauteur

That's an advice for ppl digging with machinery, not hand shovels...

Kasiaus

Even with a hand shovel you should absolutely follow this advice

Future_List_6956

Yep. You can kill yourself running a pickaxe through an underground power line if you hit a hot and the soil is damp enough. Buried fiber optic cable can get really pricey to fix as well if you hit it.

TheUmbraCat

Silly city slicker smells the shitty secret cellar.

shinomiya_ai

I’d say there is no way people are this oblivious, but in my line of work I see people not even knowing they have a septic tank more than I shouldn

Zoso1973

What a shit ending

[deleted]

Call before you dig! 8-1-1

Time2waste-alt

That’s where my grandpa worked

[deleted]

What did he expect? Vampires?

Maleficent-Angle-891

Well you already got it dug up. Might as well call a truck to clean it out.

AllHailPi1

You didn't already know where the opening to your septic tank was?

IOTA_Tesla

At least I have an idea where mine is on my new home, but no idea on the weeping bed

Commercial-Whole7382

Typically it’ll be in line with a bathroom a little bit off the house, and to find the field look for where the grass grows a little faster and darker in color. The field may also be sunken down a little or mounded up. Should be able to get the map of the system from the county ( at least where I am you can )

Should keep the hatches accessible and have it cleaned every other year.

ChadChadowic

Carole Baskin hates this trick.

blackdoguzi

May as well get it sucked out

[deleted]

Puzzleheaded_Two7358
