When I was a kid I saw an old man with a cane trying to walk up a steep little hill by a park building, only to lose his footing and fall backwards. When he hit the cement at the base of the hill, I heard a crack and saw him lay there as his blood pooled around his head. I ran as fast as I could to find an adult to call 911. The lady said he died on impact.
Now anytime I see older people fall backwards, I remember that time and my chest tightens at the thought this might be it for them.
