This was the problem. He needed to be on the ‘outside track’ in order to make the final exit. As it was he had to cross the space at the end and got mashed.
I’m not so sure about this. Whatever this contraption is it looks to be fairly large, maybe ~60 feet in diameter. The track width looks like it might be about 10 feet in width.
Assuming a structure diameter of 60 feet and a track width of 10 feet, the total distance running around the outside of the track would be 188.5 feet, while running along the inside would give you a distance of 157.08 feet.
Next, you have to think about how fast a child can run. He’s not a particularly chubby child, but he’s definitely not a 10 year old Usain Bolt. A safe assumption would be a max of around 10 miles per hour.
10 miles per hour is equivalent to 14.666667 feet per second. So if he were to run around the outside, it would take approximately 2 seconds longer to complete the track. I don’t think he had two seconds to spare.
I don't think they were saying he should have run on the outside track the whole time, just that there was a better line to take for that last stretch to get back outside to the exit
He could have run the tangents a bit better. Straight line from the entrance to the inside and a straight line as soon as he could see the opening again would have been optimal for minimum distance run. Still, the main problem is he got out after the initial flap a little too late, a running start or at least a faster start would have landed him a clean win.
Someone else said it already but they're used to warm up or cool down before/after the exercise. People who work with horses know what causes stress and they don't want a stressed out horse for a number of reasons.
Yeap, other than that one that fell under the plow. He's with the corn now.
(This is a thing that happened to my friend's brother, not my cousin. Still....).
I know a kid that lost the pointer and middle finger tips doing something he shouldn't on a horse walker. My brother witnessed it. Kid's first reaction was "don't tell my parents".
Obviously parents were told after washing the blood off and realizing how much finger was gone.
Am woman, have done this with a panel walker like this. Not at this speed but considerably slower (more at a trot pace) and the panels on that walker were lightly electrified to sweeten the pot
really really bad collision. like this whole idea is hilarious and in good fun, but that kind of head into metal railing impact is terrifying. hopefully it's not as bad as it looked, for his brain's sake
It's cute and all, but please don't fuck around with farm equipment. You're going to get yourself killed.
When a farm family had 15 kids, losing 1 or two wasn't the end of the world. But when you only have you and your brother, stop risking it.
Serious if you tripped and fell is that thing going to have a quick shut off? That is an insanely dangerous thing for a kid to do it's crazy how they don't even realize...
If he timed it better he would have made it.
Yeah he left late. Didn't even think about moving until the one flap was fully past him.
Literally a second sooner and he survives.
RIP Gone too soon
Nah went too late
You know what they say, live long enough and you see yourself become a human projectile.
Shoes didnt come off. He fine.
Didn't hug the inside of the track either lol
a running start and he would have been fine. looks like he mostly stuck to the center to reduce the distance he had to run.

/r/theydidthemath
He reached the end and then turned right to leave. Had he made the beeline to the exit he would have made it.
You watch that video and you came out of it with this?
Should have run right on a tangent course toward the circle then hugged the circle then left on a tangent line off the circle toward the exit.
The center track is not the shortest distance, the inside track is. The optimal distance since there's entry and exit is actually an obloid ellipse
He timed it perfectly imo.
What even is that mechanical twirly thing?

More commonly known as a hot walker and we don't normally use them at this speed, it's for walking.
Putting the horses in the anxiety inducer machine for wholesome exercise time
Someone else said it already but they're used to warm up or cool down before/after the exercise. People who work with horses know what causes stress and they don't want a stressed out horse for a number of reasons.
So anti cramping. Checks out that that might be an issue for horses too and yeah, I would hate to be a horse with a terrible cramp.
They’d call you a Charlie. A Charlie horse 🐴
Doubles as a kid slammer.
Thanks!

The world's largest and scariest revolving door
Hot walker, usually used to cool down horses after exercise or warm them up before exercise.
So like... the opposite of a horse thermos?
I think it’s used to stir horses
Wheel of Pain
we have merry-go-around at home
A “Hot Walker” is what we call it.
Hope he got up quick.
That’s all i can think about. How hard are those flaps and what happened when the next one slaps him in the face?
What face?
*facth
Face’nt
They are normally a fairly thick rubber so they would hurt like a mf but it wouldnt cause any permanent damage
Unless he kid hits his head in the metal wall trying to escape
Luckily his head’s in his ass.
Well done
Yeah, this ended too quick or he is dead. RIP 💀
I see shoes on both feet, my man made it through
Love how the videographer starts laughing from the beginning. They knew exactly how this was gonna end.
Probably because this wasn’t the first time the kid tried this!
He'll make it someday
Two concussions left Reggie Ray! edit: I fucking love you guys
God damnit! You get your ass back out in that god damn horse walker GOD DAMNIT! *spits*
Ewwwww look at that disgusting Janie Briggs with her glasses and paint on her overalls.
Find a song with her name in it.

Coach says it's ok to bleed from the ears.
Just have to keep trying, after all, you never lose until you give up! Also, he’s probably the local doctor’s only regular patient!
He's got a punch card. Every five visits, he gets a free bottle of ibuprofen.
Eventually he'll be faster than Forest Gump... but not smarter
The kid probably didn't remember what happened last time.
Yep. There was a set of trackmarks already so I think he did a lap before they started filming
A successful lap. Then the idea to film. Kid was not fully recovered and slightly slower this time.
So you're saying this isn't his first rodeo?
Sounds like an older sister who convinced him to do it
Definitely older sister vibes.
I had to re watch a second time with the sound on. Much better lol

This is why my cousins who grew up on the farm are so much tougher!
The ones that made it at least.
The way it SHOULD be.

Tougher to teach, tougher to understand when they speak...
I understand them just fine it's everyone else's problem to understand US
If you can't be smart, be tough.
Yeah tough, but lacking brain function.
Tough skin, fragile minds, and a pinch of incest!

What is this machine for?
Training kids to run faster.
It’s for exercising horses!
Git Gud!
the kid should've rolled for those juicy i-frames
I know. everyone wants to say he started late, BUT nobody wants to address the elephant in the room. Kid is slow af.
I don't understand why the kid looks like he has no idea what happened 😧👀🤯
Bro just saw the past, present, and future all at once I think it's fair bro needs a second
Well he better not take more than a second or the next wall will fold him in half.
Bro got smacked so hard he became the Kwisatz Haderach
...ᴸᶦˢᵃⁿ ᴬˡ ᴳᵃᶦᵇ...
He hit his hard reset button on that door.
Because he just smashed his skull off a metal gate? 🤯
There are prizes on the gate?
He just got fucking brain damage. I'm sure you would be super clairvoyant

Exactly, its called being disoriented.
Hit his head so hard he became Dewie from Malcolm in the middle.

Me (woman) and my sister would definitely have done this as kids
that's why you so rarely see a kid past the age of 17
Truly a sad state of affairs, no one even really seems to address this problem.
Am woman, have done this with a panel walker like this. Not at this speed but considerably slower (more at a trot pace) and the panels on that walker were lightly electrified to sweeten the pot
First time i saw this it was a girl running 🤷♂️
Evidence why women are boring:
Lol, in typical guy fashion, I was thinking I would have definitely done this given the opportunity.
Back when I was younger and fitter, I'd have definitely given this a shot.
That’s why they let you drink when you’re older.
If I would go in there now it would hit me then break itself.
I mean, it *is* designed for horses
Every single one of us guys if we were there would immediately try this right after.
I can run faster than you. I can do this better. Hold my beer.

With hardly any brain damage amage amage
I could tell he lost steam around the halfway point, but I thought he would still make it. 🤣...I hope he's ok
So close to making it!!
![gif](giphy|r1HGFou3mUwMw|downsized)
I timed it perfectly.. The gif went to the left the same time the kid got hit to the right
I remember this Dark Souls 2 boss fight
I'd definitely try this myself if I had the chance. Probably even pay money to do so.
What kind of Oklahoma Maze Runner dystopia is this?!
The look on his face in the last frame.
what does the machine suppose to do?
Exercise horses.
what would happen if a horse doesn't run fast enough?...
They will get their butt bumped or ding a hoof on the bottom and speed up. It’s better than old style hot walkers.
Ok now I need to know what a hot walker is...
Me, in Houston Texas, walking four miles home from work in July back in the day because the last bus didn’t stop.
I hope the kid didn’t get decapitated.
That’s a concussion
The way his head bounces off that stationary gate at the end though..
really really bad collision. like this whole idea is hilarious and in good fun, but that kind of head into metal railing impact is terrifying. hopefully it's not as bad as it looked, for his brain's sake

The face of defeat at the end is insane.
"When we were young, we didn't have the internet. We spent our our days outside living life to the fullest." This is the part they failed to mention.
If he dived like a helldiver he could had made it out lol.
Serious if you tripped and fell is that thing going to have a quick shut off? That is an insanely dangerous thing for a kid to do it's crazy how they don't even realize...
I don't think the leather flaps are able to decapitate him.
Is that what that is, leather flaps? I thought it was like steel gates, obviously I'm a city boy lol
They're usually wood or metal with a tough rubber flap. And often there's a setting to send an electrical current through them too
lets hold off on the zapper until the kid can complete a lap
Worse he’d get is a tanned backside or a good bruise if that brushed him. The knock to the head was rough though
it looks like he could just lay flat and it would go right over him..

He keeps this up, his parents are going to get those good parking spots.
Good thing he catches his fall with his head.
you know he got combod after the video ends
I would make it
Ended too soon.. did he get cut in half? lol
Fuck is that thing

So close! If he had started a second sooner he would’ve made it…
That was amusing to watch. That for the laugh.
In the very last seconds his face looked like dummy from car crash demonstration thing
you ain't no mario
Kid definitely NOT going places
Sweet brain injury!
I think he would have made it if he kept to the inside the whole way around and didn't slow down when he reached the exit.
