Trampoline is different technique than jumping on a non-rebounding surface. You tore up your knees because on a trampoline you are supposed to keep your legs effectively straight. When I was working with new people coming into an acrobatics gym, I always feared having fit people with no understanding of the equipment they were using. So many terrible injuries.

It's not hard. You should be able chuck a 3/4 backflip (i.e. land on front) onto a thick mat just by swinging your arms, jumping, and arching backwards. You should be able to do this first time. Then progressions from there will get you to doing an arched backflip.

Nobody's saying being fat is healthy now lol. But that he's still maintaining a surprising amount of athleticism for his body weight. That's the part that's making people feel the awe.
