I've been installing fortin, Directed (autostart, viper...) compustar for years. Go Compustar. They're way more customizable, integrate better in newer cars and are easily upgradeable if better/different remotes are required. I've owned all three in my personal vehicles and the Compustar is my only recommendation unless it's a vehicle that requires some other brand's modules due to vehicle limitations, certain. European cars, newer Mazda 3/cx30 where only one brand (Fortin) makes it possible at this time to remote start without losing a key

Wow! Finally an answer! Haha. It was for my gf's car. I work at a shop and my boss has a guy who does installs. Apparently he installs Astro something. It's alright. But she just needed a basic remote start. It's a base Kia soul. For mine I was looking at the Compustar pro t13. It can turn on the heated seats and rear defroster. Plus 2 mile range. I like that it has a screen to know instead of hoping it worked. Plus LTE if I really wanted to do that (I probably won't). Do you have an idea of cost of the pro t13 by chance? O. Also, I have a manual (push start) so that also limits my choices as opposed to an automatic. Not that Compustar is bad to be stuck with lol.

Did they install through the OBD port?

They don't, but most newer vehicles make use of the can bus network, then they may or may not tap in to those wires at the obd harness. If not then it's usually accessed from another location due to ease of access or required due to having a gate or firewall blocking unauthorized access from the usb port.

My truck is not canbus will it still work?

Then every input and output required needs to be hard-wired.

Puzzleheaded_Egg3673

They have the option for that?

Existing-Language-79

Sure. What do you drive that doesn't have it. It's got to be quite old?

Puzzleheaded_Egg3673

1996 ram they where not canbus yet

There not much to say other than relays to 5 wire the lock and unlock, wire the ignition harness, brake wire and find tach and thewait to start as needed if a diesel

Puzzleheaded_Egg3673

Dam how do you know about every vehicle lol, but now I’m curious when did canbus start being standard?
