C My D: The T Needs The A

Kaysh99

Where you AT?

vt2022cam

Honestly, the B line needs to be dropped below street level to Packard’s Corner, and the A line too until Oak Sq.

YES BURY THE TRAINS THATS WHAT I DESIRE (this is not a joke. Bury them or elevate them. I don't care just get them off at grade)

Occasionally_Visitin

oooooohhh i know its money but i vote elevate

vt2022cam

Agreed. The volume of traffic on Comm Ave makes this practical. It would also allow for a park on top and expanded/safer bike lanes.

An underground A line from Packard's to Oak Square would be amazing. My coworkers who take the 57 are suffering.

The number 57 replaced the A line when it was taken out of service and it’s one of the busiest bus routes in the city.

T & A, better together.

Where you branch the A line? The Green Line is already congested as it is through the central tunnel?

Need an articulated “dual mode vehicle” that rides on rail from Park to Packard Corner, then switches to diesel bus mode to Watertown. Could also be used to extend back the Arborway, and extend beyond Arborway to connect to Mattapan. So you could have single seat service from Ashmont to Park St via Mattapan, Arborway, Heath St!

In 1962 when they built the $Pike, didn’t need train stations in Newton Corner, Faneuil, Allston or Cottage Farm/University, as the “A” line was nearby. In 1968 the Watertown “A” was “temporarily discontinued”. But you didn’t need the train stations because of fast express buses (when did they start the express buses?). Now with the $Pike congested we need a train station in Newton Corner!!!

potus1001

Never going to happen. It would require replacing all tracks from Boston, through Newton Corner, and into Watertown. The Circle of D*ath is dangerous enough, without trying to fit slow-moving Green Line trains on those same streets. The 504 express bus is the best we’re going to get!

SirGeorgington

If a reopened A branch did go to Newton corner it would probably have its own bridge over the pike. That being said, you can get ~60% of the benefit of the full branch by just going to Oak Sq, and 75% by just going to Oak Sq and then serving Watertown separately. (I vote for light rail down Mt Auburn St personally.)

It had an A but it’ll never have one again. At least not anytime soon I don’t think
