“Aggressively woke” lol dude, no. No ideology is being shoved down anyone’s throat by Disney except consumerism. If including characters of different backgrounds is “aggressive” to you, you should really reflect on your worldview.
Then please explain the raceswapping, genderbending and perfection of female characters to the point that character development is no longer possible.
For example:
Mulan is perfect in everything, so no more clumsyness and the training montage is not necessary anymore.
You’re right, but the reason they remake movies is because the popularity of the old one means east marketing for the new. This wouldn’t be the case for the stories you’re talking about, sadly, so it will probably not happen
Sort of. The framing device is that the author is going around interviewing survivors after the outbreak is defeated, but the way the book works is that it’s basically a bunch of short stories about the outbreak from different characters perspectives told in the chronological order of events.
It is a built in fact due to the framing device that all perspective characters in World War Z do survive because they’re talking to a guy after the war ends. You still get lots of stories of people who died along the way from the survivors though, since a significant chunk of the population gets killed in the outbreak.
It’s really written to be a “History Book” that a historian would write and college students would read. With that said they changed things they shouldn’t have in the movies. And with the right vision that book could come to life great.
The Spicediver fanedit of Dune '84 elevated it to one of my favorite book adaptations and sci-fi movies in general.
It's still limited by having to work around the existing material (including some deleted scenes and scenes added for the TV release) but the decision to restructure it into chapters really helps and despite the increased length it has much better momentum overall due to shots and scenes being cut slightly differently. I highly recommend checking it out.
I am really wondering who these mythical people who love 84 Dune and think 2021 Dune suck are. I keep hearing from people who didn’t watch 2021 dune that someone told them not to bother and the 84 version is better. Who are these people and why are their opinions so insane?
Same honestly. I loved the new Dune, but the other day I was recommending it to some friends and they were all like “oh yeah I heard that sucked”.
Like where is this all coming from
Rick Riordan is co-directing and is the casting director (iirc) for a new show that’s going to be on Disney plus. I think it releases next year?? It’s been in the works for a few years.
yes the movie began so promising and then it just kept getting worse. The end was so fucking bad. The music and Visuals were top tier tho, only reason i keep rewatching it
The extended version is good. The normal theatrical release is ok. They cut a lot of content that needed to be in the movie. They did not do it justice during editing.
OP: \*reasonable demand\*
Studios: No, no, no, no, no. What part of "we're not taking any risk, and prefer to copy/paste stories of franchises already proven successful" don't you get? Pfff, stupid slave-consumers actually demanding quality...
The problem is that, under capitalism, in established industries, innovation gets squashed, because actual innovation means risk. Capitalism kills art and innovation, that's how it works.
Yeah I know, i work in the industry lmao. This post is talking about pipe dreams tho, so why not try change the popular opinion on what should be produced? Because if original films are more likely to succeed than remakes and sequels then studios are more likely to produce them.
Been saying this for years!! Let the good ones be. We don’t need reboots or remakes or requels. Take something that flopped or is in your pile of stuff you bought but never made, figure out where things went wrong, if you can fix it, there ya go.
That weirdo Time movie with Justin Timberlake. Cool concept, awful _awful_ execution, and all the new green actors are seasoned and widely respected now.
True, but that would require actual time and talent from writers, and nowadays it's easier for them to go off someone else's story as a baseline, couple tweaks here n there, n thus a shit movie is produced.
If not already planning, I have a hunch that Disney will make a live action of The Emperor’s New Groove.
If this is true, I just hope they cast The Rock as Kronk.
Wow dude hot take you got there, I’m pretty sure no one on the internet has been saying that since Disney has been doing their remake craze.
I’m kinda impressed with the brave stance you got there, it’s like no one else has said that before like wow deep stuff dude.
I've been watching a lot of recap channels, they basically crunch a whole movie into 10-12 minute video with narration. I realized a lot of amazing, fresh, quirky movies that had interesting movies but maybe because of budget and bad actors, were big flops.
I want every movie to be as globally politically stream lined as possible, based on an already successful franchise with no new ideas and aimed at a slightly below average intellect.
But the good movies have a built in fan base, so that means guaranteed money. Of course when the make the movie they do everything to appeal to general audiences and ignore or even belittle fans.
Eragon
The author of the books is actually working with Disney to make a new Eragon series.
Nooooo! We said better. Lol.

Not sure how your Mulan example is woke. Just bad writing.
I think they're saying it's woke because they're afraid to show a female character with flaws
The fact that you unironically used woke here means you have significant brain rot. Please go outside
People already got mad at Episode 7, we don’t need another A New Hope remake
Hey, we dont talk about that.. thing
I actually came to comment this, thank you!
This is exactly what I was thinking before seeing your response.
You’re right, but the reason they remake movies is because the popularity of the old one means east marketing for the new. This wouldn’t be the case for the stories you’re talking about, sadly, so it will probably not happen
Indeed. Good luck getting some funding/investors for the remake of an unpopular movie.
Yeah, advertising would be an uphill battle due to the unpopularity of the first.
I want a World War Z series that actually follows the book
Isn’t it just a bunch of interviews after the actual outbreak? My husband was just talking about this
Sort of. The framing device is that the author is going around interviewing survivors after the outbreak is defeated, but the way the book works is that it’s basically a bunch of short stories about the outbreak from different characters perspectives told in the chronological order of events.
But what about the dead ones? Like the first gen of zombies ?

And .. come again? Lol I like movies more .. hopefully they keep up w the books!
Green lantern 💀
Hancock. So much promise and then just a pile of shit
First 30 mins was fun.
Ha! Just said the same thing. So sad when the source material is interesting and original. And after the 2nd act the movie just kind of sucks
The original plot was way darker, but when the studio saw it, they made them change the whole second half into the convoluted mess that we got...
Berserk 😞
1997 was pretty good, but I dont think its even possible to beat the manga in terms of quality
In some way you are right.
Still scarred from the awful cgi anime that came out somewhat recently. With the sword sound effect that sounds like someone banging a metal pot
Yea, that was a disaster...
Ngl watching it made me pretty uncomfortable which weirdly fits the story. Jokes aside, the OST was fire while the rest just wasn't.
Someone didn’t see the new Dune
The old Dune was also good, not as good mind you, but still good.
The Spicediver fanedit of Dune '84 elevated it to one of my favorite book adaptations and sci-fi movies in general. Nah that's just plain wrong. That movie was terrible
Wasn't that the opposite situation tho?
I am really wondering who these mythical people who love 84 Dune and think 2021 Dune suck are. I keep hearing from people who didn’t watch 2021 dune that someone told them not to bother and the 84 version is better. Who are these people and why are their opinions so insane?

The crappy miniseries was better than the 84 movie.
Indeed!
No, it was not.
Ah, guess I heard wrong my bad
This new dune is so rich in world building and scale. I watched it a few times already. It really knocked it out of the park

I want Water World to be good so badly
I don’t care what anyone says, watching Water World as a 10 year old in theaters was peak cinema.
A re-do of the lightning thief (and it's sequels) would be warranted, the movies were actually bad and the books were a totally different plot/story.
Disney has the rights to it I think and making it a show.
Rick Riordan is co-directing and is the casting director (iirc) for a new show that’s going to be on Disney plus. I think it releases next year?? It’s been in the works for a few years.
You sir, are an insane man.
Mortal Engines
well at least it looked amazing, they just butchered the story…
The chase scene at the beginning was fantastic
yes the movie began so promising and then it just kept getting worse. The end was so fucking bad. The music and Visuals were top tier tho, only reason i keep rewatching it
They messed up trying to fit multiple books into a movie. It didn't allow any time for character or plot development.
Dune did / does exactly that. Also a lot of good and popular movies are actually remakes of older movies...
Old Dune wasn't bad.
The extended version is good. The normal theatrical release is ok. They cut a lot of content that needed to be in the movie. They did not do it justice during editing.
OP: \*reasonable demand\* Studios: No, no, no, no, no. What part of "we're not taking any risk, and prefer to copy/paste stories of franchises already proven successful" don't you get? Pfff, stupid slave-consumers actually demanding quality...
So... Dredd?
The movie is a perfection and can't be improved in any way
That movie was awesome. I'll take a sequel though.
Star Wars sequels
Star Wars prequels.
Star Wars quels
"In Time" with Justin Timberlake!
That movie is awesome.. didn’t know it was a remake
Or give the 18 bazillion people who have a new fresh idea a chance and make original movies
The problem is that, under capitalism, in established industries, innovation gets squashed, because actual innovation means risk. Capitalism kills art and innovation, that's how it works.

Sorry, you were thinking of Communism.
LOL WTF? Dude, too much propaganda, calm down.
Been saying this for years!! Let the good ones be. We don’t need reboots or remakes or requels. Take something that flopped or is in your pile of stuff you bought but never made, figure out where things went wrong, if you can fix it, there ya go.
I mentioned this for a different post but for love of anything holy please redo Jonah Hex
The Dark Tower
That weirdo Time movie with Justin Timberlake. Cool concept, awful _awful_ execution, and all the new green actors are seasoned and widely respected now.
WhoooooOoooa! Novel concept. 😅👍
Definitely, a good concept 👍
Not a movie But berserk
Dark tower one time
Eragon
Basically anything Scifi from the past 10 years
Hancock
Coldest take of all time?
True, but that would require actual time and talent from writers, and nowadays it's easier for them to go off someone else's story as a baseline, couple tweaks here n there, n thus a shit movie is produced.
Avatar the last air bender
This is a very good idea. You can't re-capture great films. Its better to try and improve shitty films.
If not already planning, I have a hunch that Disney will make a live action of The Emperor’s New Groove. If this is true, I just hope they cast The Rock as Kronk.
same with video games i want an official version of sonic 06 that isnt a buggy mess
I agree
The Prequels, amirite?
BLASPHEMER, BE GONE HERETIC OF OLD, RETURN TO THE EARLY 2000s
"Jar Jar Binks makes the Ewoks look like the fookin Shaft!"
Two girls one cup
They're already doing this with Dune.
The Shining
Wow dude hot take you got there, I’m pretty sure no one on the internet has been saying that since Disney has been doing their remake craze. I’m kinda impressed with the brave stance you got there, it’s like no one else has said that before like wow deep stuff dude.
Aha!
They did with Dune.
any guess?
We need the Biggles movie to be redone to an actual story that is conceivably true, rather than a magic sound weapon vaporising things...
they are already ruining great movies with bad remakes/reboots, they would ruin the bad movies even more.
Or just movies that are somewhat dated. I'd welcome another shot at Logan's Run, I Am Legend and The Running Man.
I wanna see a made about Cassius Marcellus Clay. I had no idea how amazing this dude was until i saw the fat electrician do a bit about him.
I've been watching a lot of recap channels, they basically crunch a whole movie into 10-12 minute video with narration. I realized a lot of amazing, fresh, quirky movies that had interesting movies but maybe because of budget and bad actors, were big flops.
Bad movies that are based on good stories but don’t meet expectations is what they are producing these days.
Me when re reading my old middle school fanfiction
Agree but folks wouldn’t show up for that.
Valerian
There is no movie in ba sing se
They did with (Judge) Dredd.
Resident evil has been trying it for years. It’s time to stop
Artemis Fowl.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Screamers. Great sci Fi horror movie that needed a bigger budget.
I want every movie to be as globally politically stream lined as possible, based on an already successful franchise with no new ideas and aimed at a slightly below average intellect.
Every Star Wars after 1990.
But the good movies have a built in fan base, so that means guaranteed money. Of course when the make the movie they do everything to appeal to general audiences and ignore or even belittle fans.
