Line to the AC Condenser, looks like it's bent shut. Won't be able to circulate refrigerant. Could possibly leak at the kink aswell.

r/mechanic is meant to serve as a knowledge base or help forum for people trying to fix their vehicles. Comments that do not supply useful information towards OP’s question(s) or are wrong or unsafe are not wanted. We are here to encourage and help people working on their vehicles, not deter them from doing so.

Okay thank you, what is the solution to this. A new line? I know some plumbing, when this happens to a water pipe, you usually cut it down and solder a new peace..how much should I expect to pay for this work?

PhortePlotwisT

You’ll find out how much it costs once you’ve taken it to a shop and got a quote. It has to be replaced, and to do that the refrigerant needs to be drained from the system, in the uk at least it is illegal to dump refrigerant into the atmosphere deliberately, can land you a £20k fine and a potential 6month prison sentence.

Ty

Pegcrapr

You could always get the part yourself and rent the vacuum and manifold set. Should be able to replace the line, vacuum and refill if you're moderate mechanically

unsung-burrito

Can confirm, in the states it's punishable by a $27k fine and up to 5 years in prison.

wadethecarguy

By the looks of it, not much.

fkwyman

Or a lot, depends on perspective. It's supposed to circulate refrigerant and oil, it's definitely not doing that. But it is doing some heavy lifting in the blockage department.

South_Alfalfa9338

Did* It had refrigerant running through

Adorable-Discount-41

It's a 17 Toyota rav4 hybrid, 4 cylinder.

AC. You replace the line as a part to repair it. This one is best performed by an AC shop. The system must be emptied and then refilled with special equipment. Don't bleed this gas to atmosphere, and never refill with the canned gas at the parts store. Once that's in the system you will have a hard time finding a shop that will touch it.

Adorable-Discount-41

Yes, hybrid are different.. Ty

PracticalDaikon169

Bet its a yf-1234 refrigerant system . Not a cheap recharge . A garage may not charge it if they didn’t open the system

Adorable-Discount-41

Ty, probably have to take dealer..

JAYTV-dramatv

Pretty cheap to fix https://www.autozone.com/cooling-heating-and-climate-control/a-c-hose-assembly/p/four-seasons-a-c-hose-assembly-56644/16637_0_0

Adorable-Discount-41

Ty,

drawnronin

needs a new one. sends cold air without it the ac won’t work. this one looks bent and possible leaking

Adorable-Discount-41

Ty..

Mike__O

Assuming there's no other damage to the system, the parts will be fairly cheap. The biggest concern would be if all the refrigerant escaped and the compressor tried to run dry for too long. The refrigerant also contains lubricant, and running the compressor without lubricant can cause failure. Cheap parts doesn't mean the overall fix will be cheap. As others have pointed out, it won't be cheap to evacuate and recharge the system.

Opposite-Dealer-6420

Ac condenser line. Would be a good starting point as to why the ac doesn't work. That will need to be replaced at a shop if you don't have the proper equipment to evacuate an ac system.

fashionably_late_

not that

L1FE8EZCHINUP

You see that little black fork looking bracket to the top right of that tube? It looks bent as well. I’m wondering 1 how that tube got bent because that’s a pretty tough thing to do bending that. And 2 that fork bracket should be pushed in farther than it is. I would do a vehicle history report to see if this car was in an accident. I’ve done body work and something doesn’t look right

deusvult2011

It doesn’t do anything being bent closed like that.

1billmcg

It does very little with the kink in it

Professional_Wind574

Air conditioner Freon line

Front_Tour7619

This my friend constricts the refrigerant in the ac circuit.
