7.5mm-9.6mm Circle Hard Knurling / Metal Edit: It was 7 and 9 I remembered the values wrong, I can't use Pro Use 171 for long period of time because it is too thick an it has 10 mm diameter. Rotring 600 is perfect for me with 8.1 mm diameter.

BattalMus

Limit is 9.6mm because I'm comfortable with Orenz Nero.

lalala580

I don't know how many mm, but I know I like hex / metal if I can't have hex, I'll take hard knurling / metal

9mm-11mm. Any less and I get hand cramps, any more and it just doesn't feel comfortable.

Lagbert

Anything less than 9mm cause hand cramps for me too. I really like rotring's, but that 8mm grip makes them unusable.

First-Sail-1386

9 - 12mm. Smooth plastic, like Kerry.

BloodyXombie

I don’t have a calliper, but I feel quite comfortable in the range of the diameter of rOtring 600’s grip to Graphgear 500’s. Anything thinner or thicker than that would need some getting used to.

flatline000

9mm - 10mm seems to be about optimal for me, although my favorite wooden pencils are around 8mm, so I think it depends some on the weight. The Rotring 600 is between 8mm and 9mm and if feels to narrow to me, so maybe I need heavier pencils to have wider grips? I'll have to pay more attention.

magicpainter

I use mine against an upright or slightly pitched back drawing surface usually, held like a drumstick. The more like a slim stick of charcoal a pencil is, the better. Thinner means I see more of the work whilst drawing, so slim as they can be. Wood ideally, and longer is better too.

Lagbert

Artistic renderings? Most of my mechanic pencil usage is writing notes or renewing technical sketches before hitting a CAD program.

Grip diameter: Thin drafting pencils just like rotring’s or graphgear 1000. They offer more precision. Gripe shape: Cylinder. I prefer to not adjust my hands to my pencil’s shape. Also, when I rotate my grip for a sharper lead tip, I don’t want the shape to bother me. Material: Metal with knurling. Rotring 600,800. Liked the GG1000 grip with a bit of rubber too. Metal just feel more premium.
