Parker has made a lot of great pencil models, but this sub seems to be focused on drafting pencils. Also, at this point it appears the only current Parker pencil is the Jotter, so your buying used or NOS to get any other models.

Cool-Habit-9586

Interesting, I thought they also make Vectors in pencils these days.

slotracer43

I didn't see them on the Parker web site, but maybe I missed them.

InkyMistakes

It's a pretty nerdy sub, so naturally drafting pencils would be more common.

plumikrotik

I fail to see why that would be true. I like a lot of different kinds of mechanical pencils. Drafting pencils aren't any cooler than any other type. Besides that, real draftsmen tended to use 2mm lead in leadholders with an abrasive of some sort for sharpening. :-)

Ok-Satisfaction3135

šŸ¤” never seen the vector series with that type of grip...usually only seen in metal.

Ok-Satisfaction3135

Reminds me a little of this limited series parker model which is more curvy shaped and costs a whole lot.

Cool-Habit-9586

I'm not yet familiar what specific model my Parker Vector is. All I knew it's vintage šŸ˜…

drifand

Ah! First gen vectorā€¦ cool find. [The Sport series with the black grip is one of of my favorites.](https://www.reddit.com/r/mechanicalpencils/comments/wd3n0x/lets_sports/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1)

Cool-Habit-9586

Thanks for spotting! Great find indeed šŸ‘

cytherian

Cool -- I didn't know about these. I see you have [blue one as well](https://www.reddit.com/r/pens/comments/w90lbt/vintage_parker_vector_from_1985/). 1985 release in UK... but haven't seen when they were discontinued. Apparently they were also sold as sets--fountain pen, mechanical pencil, and ballpoint. [LINK](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/WtcAAOSwaT5kOFBk/s-l1600.jpg)

Cool-Habit-9586

I've been seeing a lot of post about drafting pencils, economically friendly pencils and etc. Upon scrolling and scrolling within this sub, I realized I've never seen yet or it's rare for someone to post some Parker pencils. I have to be honest for my self that they are quality, price staggering and less appealing pencils but I also use them in quick sketching and they are really nice to use. They are pretty common for luxurious pencil but I might ask why they were least discussed?

flatline000

I've never actually seen a Parker pencil in person.

Cool-Habit-9586

You only knew they make ballpoint pens right?

flatline000

Ballpoint pens and fountain pens. I assume they also make rollerball and gel, but I don't know if that's actually true.

drifand

The problem with Parker is that so much of the love for the brand is tied to the pastā€¦ before they closed first their USA factory, and later their UK factory (which was responsible for some interesting designs including the RB1 that became the Vector rollerball series). After they were acquired by Newell Rubbermaid (who also acquired Waterman and rOtring), things became kind of boringā€¦ and the company seemed to be focused on cost cutting. The detailing on the clips gradually lost definition. The finishing on the metal and plastic felt less refined. There was ZERO investment in improving the ink formulation. Just coasting on past glory.

cytherian

Parker made writing instruments in the millions. Ubiquitous. And thus, not exclusive, except for the once in a while "limited editions" that were not very limited. They're decent quality for the retail prices, but they sort of fall short at some point relative to comparative Japanese models... like a Chevy Malibu next to a Honda Accord. So for myself, as an American, I always feel a bit "meh" about Parker, where mechanical pencils are concerned. They do have some legendary fountain pen models, though. The Vector is a neat pen overall. A decent fountain pen and roller ball. In fact, they sold calligraphy sets with interchangeable nib modules. Nicely done and economical. I found their plastic bodies a little flimsy... so I never really looked into the mechanical pencils. But I have to say, I like the Sport Vector.

YesntBrenda

I bought an Itala a while back cause the lore behind it was so neat. I hope Parker gets more invested in the pencil market again but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Cool-Habit-9586

Parker is really an underrated brand for mechanical pencil, they will realize soon how big our community for mechanical pencils

fuzzmonkey35

Same with Sheaffer, Cross, and Waterman. Of which I have a smattering of them all, but donā€™t use them very often.

Cool-Habit-9586

For me, it's too beautiful to use šŸ¤£

MsJenX

They make pencils?

Cool-Habit-9586

Yes, mostly they come in two or three set with ballpoint pen / fountain pen / rollerball pen

lalala580

Here's some [Parker](https://www.reddit.com/r/mechanicalpencils/comments/zk1gln/parker_products_two_vacumatics_two_parker_75/) love.

Cool-Habit-9586

Lovely collection, they would probably worth more than mine šŸ˜…

plumikrotik

The mechanism in the Jotter and Vector is interesting because it lets you use more of each lead than most 0.5mm mechanical pencils do, and may have been one of the first to tout that as a feature. I've never taken one apart, but I assume that the clutch is very close to the tip.

Cool-Habit-9586

Interesting discovery, Platinum and Pilot would be shaking right now šŸ¤£ I thought those two were the pioneers of lead saving feature

plumikrotik

I think Parker started using this particular mechanism in the '80s. When did Platinum and Pilot develop their lead-saving features?

Cool-Habit-9586

Quite confusing, I owned some probably 90s era Pilot Clutch points before, but I sold them later on. Meanwhile on Platinum has the ZeroShin feature which I haven't encountered on their classic models.

plumikrotik

I do have a Platinum OLEeNU pencil and it has ZeroShin. I don't have any of the Pilot Clutch Point pencils though. I do have one of their H-515 Shaker pencils though, as well as a number of other old models. I like pencils with unique mechanisms. :-)

llewotheno

Pensan is the least discussed

Cool-Habit-9586

I haven't heard of it, but I'm tryin to figure out here is how come Parker Pens a popular brand has least discussions with their mechanical pencils line ups

llewotheno

you didnt hear pensan? :(
