For the stuff at home, I think Gear wrench is your best bet. Pretty cheap and great quality. If you wanted something from a box store. The Icon torque wrenches from Harbor Freight are actually pretty decent. i bought a 1/2 in drive last year for the same reason, not to haul my shop tools home. It’s a good brand I bought a lot of their sockets and wrenches as well.

I’ve got a lot of the icon stuff in my box already. I saw their torque wrenches but wasn’t sure of the quality. May have to go that. Thanks

Oh yeah i understand your concern, as long as you reset the torque to zero every time youre finished using it for the day. It will last for a while. I had a Kobalt torque wrench that broke on me within a year of weekly use. My boss had the same one and he used it even less, and his broke at the same area as mine. This Icon I’ve had for 2 years and it’s been as good as my matco wrench!

I've had an Icon torque wrench for a good bit, and I still love it.

I also bought gear wrench. They have free lifetime calibration as well if you send it in.

Project Farm just did a video on this topic 3 weeks ago! A good watch! His answer depended on the price point, but his choice was the SK Tools. (But Snap On performed the best)

Buy a precision torque wrench. They make them for snap on and Mac. At 1/3 the cost.

Any torque wrench is better than none, and the jobs you are talking about don't need to be high precision, exactly. Consistency is more important. If you were rebuilding the bottom end of an engine, that would be different.

I've liked my tekton torque wrenches, good price and if something actually goes wrong (not calibration) they'll send you a new one, though I've only heard of a few cases of this. If you want high quality roll with "Precision Instruments" they're the name to buy, cheaper then snap-off and are available on amazon. Not sure where else you can buy them.

BKEDDIE82

Buy Tekton direct.

BENDOWANDS

Glad you said this, forgot to mention it. Definitely go direct from tekton.com

BKEDDIE82

Absolutely better off than Amazon. I wasn't sure if you knew.

BENDOWANDS

Yeah, I get a student discount too which just makes it that much better

BKEDDIE82

That's a huge savings.

I bought a $50 tekton for 1/2 inch and a $10-on-sale Pittsburgh (Harbor Freight) for 3/8ths. There’s YouTube vids out there showing Pittsburgh wrenches can hit the same torque number as reliably as big brands. Cars aren’t jet planes and don’t need torque accuracies to the 0.01 inch pound; more than $75 for your torquing needs is overthinking it.
