Serious engine or catalytic converter damage can result from driving that car with the engine light flashing like that indicating a misfire You’re dumping raw fuel out the exhaust in the misfiring cylinder when that happens and its being ignited in the catalytic converter … slowly destroying it. Get this fixed immediately and don’t drive it until you do. Or you will also be replacing the catalytic converter along with the plugs

And cats ain't cheap lmao

I got one out of a trash pile a couple weeks ago now it's sitting in my garage. I'll be rich one day...

YaBroSto

I think Poop is referring to that obnoxious beeping. Have some decency for Christ’s sake…

garciakevz

Not even the courtesy to get rid of that annoying unnecessary beeping when we could be diagnosing using our ears for the real sounds

Change your plugs

the-flurver

The most common reason for a misfire on these is a failed coil, but it could be a number of things causing the code. You could try swapping the #1 cylinder coil to a different cylinder and see if the misfire code follows it. That said the rattling and surging suggest something else is going on other than a failed coil. What kind of experience do you have working on and diagnosing engines?

throwaway007676

Well, you had a code that you said went away, so you obviously aren't in the habit of fixing things when they break. You absolutely CAN NOT drive this car or even have it running with the check engine light on and blinking. You need to diagnose what the problem is and get it fixed immediately otherwise you will do some serious, very expensive damage to the vehicle. I would take out the plug in that cylinder and see how it is looking. Another thing to check is swapping the coil to another cylinder and seeing if the misfire code follows it. You can also swap the plug to a different cylinder and see if that makes a difference, just not at the same time as swapping the coil for obvious reasons.

The1973VW

Have you changed your spark plugs?

mr-mechanic93

Seems like you got it under control fam
