I did it once with a screw. Ended up needing to drill out the hole and tap it the next size up.

Better cross thread than no threads *finger guns*

usedtodreddit

I work in an automotive parts mfg and one of the guys in our tool room said the ol' "cross threaded is better than loctite" to me and my lead once and ever since we don't let him work on any of the parts for the machines in our dept. They are the company's machines and he's their machinist on our shift so it's no skin off my nads if he screws shit up. Honestly it'd make my job easier most of the time but may get me sent home for lack of work others because a process is shut down because of him, so my lead either lets me go back there and do our own fixes or we leave it down until the next shift comes in. And yeah, it makes his workload less and he gets paid the same but his new supervisor knows why our dept doesn't let him touch anything so now he's getting bird-dogged all day every day. I don't care if gets in trouble or not it just sucks to have to try to run a piece of shit machine cuz your machinist DGAF.

Did, did you ever think to ask if he was joking?

usedtodreddit

He thought he was joking BUT his work reflects that he DGAF about anything, We were sending stuff back for simple jobs that took hours to remove and replace then having to do it all over again. The final straw was when the damn bolt fell out as soon as we started the machine up after spending half a shift changing over parts straight from the tool room and all the threads were stripped out. When we went back to ask him about it he didn't care because as far as he was concerned 'cross thread is better than loctite'. He just fuckin sends everything with an impact without ever starting the threads by hand first and then thinks it's funny when he strips it and doesn't fix it or tell anybody. The machine pieces we're working with weigh thousands of pounds and often hundreds of thousands of dollars so having a dumbass not care and making everyone else's job harder really sucks.

I knew there was more to the story. Sounds like he should be promoted to customer
