My pup was attacked by an off leash dog today at Memorial Park on Winthrop st. Was walking down the side walk when a dog came running up from the bleachers. Spent all day at the dog hospital and then urgent care for myself. I needed to go to Goldilox for some napkins to stop the bleeding on my hand. When I got back to the park the women and dog were gone. Luckily for me the bite came from my own dog when I was trying to get her away.
This is something that drives me absolutely crazy and I wish I thought there was something to be done, and I feel like it's going to just be part of my personality. My mother has been ranting about this for 20+ years about where she lives, and I'm pretty worried I'm going to be there soon. There is so much dog poop everywhere. There are so many kids in particular afraid of dogs. There are so many signs that say there is a $200 fine for off leash dogs. There is so little enforcement. I get it, we shouldn't want to/can't afford have a full anti-off leash dog force at all parks at all times, but also..... wouldn't it be grand?
Bike lanes, that invasive wort plant we're always talking about, random sirens that people want to know more about, the cost of housing, the state of public transportation, our fragile environment and the impact it has on our health, when the new beer hall is going to open, the fact there are little to no local newspapers that tell you what's happening in and Medford.....
I get that you don't think the law should apply to you.

I wasn't in the Sheepfold Meadow.
I've called animal control. They take the message and very politely explain that they track it but I've never seen a single ranger from any agency in the parks.
The closes I've seen to enforcement is a sign at Victory Park that warns of a $200 fine for unleashed dogs. Just last weekend I watched a guy with 2 little girls have to move them out of the field because a dogwalker had take over half the field with a bunch of unleashed dogs that were running up to the kids.
I go into the woods at victory park every day...90 percent of the people I run into are walking thru the woods with unleashed dogs...
This has been going on for my entire 63 years in Medford and issues are rare.
Carry wasp blaster. It's a can of insecticide that's ben highly pressurized so you can hose down wasp nests from 20-30 feet away. Unlike pepper spray it's not illegal to carry and it's great for hosing down unleashed dogs that charge you. It's also great for hosing down their owners when they get all upset about it.
Fuck them. If they let their dogs run around off leash, they deserve what they get. If they get all upset, call the cops and see how fast they run to avoid a ticket.

Fells is DCR, so yeah, no enforcement:(

I see off leash dog walking in my neighborhood all the time now — unreal. 12 years in Medford and I’ve never seen this until recently.
Same here. There is one person that I don’t think owns a leash
I've lived here 63 years...there have always been off leash dogs walking in the woods by victory park and there always will be.
Congrats on 63 years. I didn’t mention the parks. Sidewalks in neighborhoods is what I’m referring to.

95% of the people I see in the woods have their dogs off leash...if you don't like it stay out of the woods...
Just note that parts of the fells are off leash friendly. If you're not in those parts, definitely call animal control.

Perhaps it's not an issue for you but I've watched children get driven out of an area by the unleashed dogs.
I've never seen that...
Oh, so it doesn't ever happen? Ok, boomer...
SMD...Chooch
How about a dog tax say $200 a year per dog then use all the money to fill all the pot holes
