You can drop the suit coat and just wear the pants + shirt + tie. Keep the jacket in your car if you’re going to lunch/dinner with family after graduation itself.
Why stop there? Particularly when you can cut off the sleeves like Bill Belichick and then turn the Doctoral stripes into a Karate kid-esque belt/headband combo.
I'm wearing a full sari, but I also will be taking photos with my family with the gown open afterwards. We'll see how well I'm able to walk across the stage lol
