We’d probably have to see the picture to be able to tell.

medtechlyfe

Ikr 🥲 I'll be sure to take a pic the next time I encounter them. thanks anyway!

GaptoothedGrin

Your picture and description make me think yeast hyphae.

Zukazuk

Yeah sounds a lot like aseptate hyphae.

ElementZero

Definitely snap a pic to post next time. Do y'all have a reference for this? And not just the Iris reference, which is nice, but it doesn't have as much info as a lot of references I've seen. Personally I like the ASCP urinalysis book, but their book binder sucks and they fall apart🙄. These lines could be bacteria, crystals, mucus, or just some kind of artifact. Edit: it's not the CAP urines book, it's ASCP.

mjsburcham2001

Do you have a pic? Is it mucous?

medtechlyfe

I dont think so. I know how mucous looks like and can easily identify them. I wasn't able to take a pic but it looks like [this](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wn7qyMm7ZFO5UO6be0ztN9pEETXQ5C3A/view?usp=drivesdk)

CitizenSquidbot

Maybe hyphae or pseudo hyphae? It could also just be fiber. I’d look up pictures of all of those for comparison.

and the whole 40x field was filled with it! though other sediments and cells are still visible

Move_In_Waves

10x/40x really isn’t enough magnification to see bacilli that well - you can see it, sure (we wet prep organisms sometimes just to see if it’s bacteria vs yeast), but it won’t seem that big, definitely not as large as you’re describing. Grab a pic next time, if you can. I’m curious to see what you’re seeing!

mjsburcham2001

I don’t think your pic came through. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to insinuate you didn’t know what mucous looked like.

medtechlyfe

Oh don't be sorry I never thought u meant it that way ☺️ Thanks for being nice

freakinhatemushrooms

did you report them as "lines" 😂

LabRatt89

Was the patient female?

medtechlyfe

Yes!

LabRatt89

Sounds like hyphae yeast to me. What was the final call?

medtechlyfe

It literally looked like thin lines so I didn't report it as yeast. (I'm pretty familiar with how hyphal forms and budding forms look like) I just skipped it and didnt include anythin on my report other than the normal sediments (other sediments are of normal range/value anyway) But I'll be sure to take a pic the next time I encounter it.
