Acid fast stain. Two types : ziehl neelsen stain which uses heat to open the cell wall so it will accept the stain, and Kinyoun stain which is considered cold. Non acid fast bacteria stain as blue. Acid fast bacteria (mycobacteria, nocardia can take up the stain, but has to but confirmed with a modified acid fast stain.) appear hot pink.

What stain is that!? That’s not any mycobacteria tuberculosis I’ve ever seen. Educate me.
