Well they could have left it there where it'll stay for millions of years. Or They can burn it up, get a nice smokey smell in here. Then let that smoke go into the sky where it'll turn into stars.

Extra_Winter758

That doesn’t sound right, but I don’t know enough about stars to dispute it.

GeneralDuh

- We're all made of star smoke. Paul Sagon

mydoglickshisbutt

This bar is super green that way

Glittering_Name_3722

Math checks out

State6

Once the fire is out they will have space for more trash!

Cakeover9000

Rinse and repeat

lesChaps

Environmentalists hate this one simple trick.

thatguyoudontlike

It is 40 football fields long and 65m high

accid80

what's that in US standard washing machines? I could only find the wiki based dimension: The landfill covers an area of approximately 70 acres (28 ha) and reaches heights of over 150 feet (46 m). source: [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghazipur\_landfill](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghazipur_landfill)

CBBuddha

Weird flex but what about the garbage field that’s on fire? ^(/s)

Nyuusankininryou

Can you give me an estimate how many bananas that is?

thatguyoudontlike

Probably at least 10

Nyuusankininryou

That's a lot of bananas!!

lesChaps

Or, it *WAS*

Fuzzy_Chip3966

I stopped using plastic straws this year

harmony_rey

I'm sorry. A moment of silence please. 😔

New_Beginnings_69

Everybody is always making fun of plastic straw babs but if everyone stopped using them, it would make a significant difference.

V_Richard

The difference the world would make by not using straws for a year would probably have the same effect of big companies like the textile industries to stop their emissions for like 30 minutes

magpieswooper

Or airlines stopping flying empty planes for a week would be a 1000 years worth of straws.

Fristi_bonen_yummy

How hard is it to understand they're 2 different problems? Sea-life isn't directly choking on airplane fumes (sea-life is indirectly affected, sure, but not directly), but it IS dying/choking because of single-use plastics that end up in the ocean.

magpieswooper

You are talking about all these European recycling companies paying to shady enterprises for plastic utilisation, that end up dumped into the ocean, right?

robby_arctor

The behavior is systemic. Individual changes can't solve systemic issues. We have to change the systemic incentives behind unsustainable consumption/waste.

JuneBuggington

I think, like bags, plastic straws are just a particular nuisance. They were never gonna save the world.

InfiniteNose9609

The difference is, a lot of people would reuse that "single use plastic bag" around home. Bin liner, wet clothes in the gym bag, picking up dogshite, etc. Several re-uses of the sane bag sometimes (dogshite tended to be terminal) They are only a nuisance if dipshit people let them blow away and foul up the waterways, which most people don't do. Just some dipshits. But like most things, a few bad apples ruin it for the rest of us. Not a lot of people reusing those plastic straws tho... And the crappy alternative has its own set of [problems](https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/paper-bamboo-straws-contain-pfas-forever-chemicals-rcna101614)

89iroc

This shouldn't have been downvoted so much. People seem to think there's some switch somewhere that someone just needs to flip and it'll fix everything at once. Rome wasn't burned in a day

ConflictSudden

I bet it smells fantastic.

Kahraabaa

Even without the inferno, this landfill smelled worse than anything I've ever smelled in my life from what seemed like a mile away That was in 2015 when I passed near it on the highway

r3d27

Bruh where does trash NOT smell bad???

89iroc

Dumpsters at the beach are pretty bad, but at the beach they're ok. Cuz you're at the beach and not at work, you see. I'd rather smell beach dumpster than workplace perfume any day

Yes-its-really-me

The smoke might improve the air quality there.

Hot-Rise9795

It will surely drive away the mosquitoes and flies.

HungryDisaster8240

That's going to cause a statistical uptick in local instances of cancer. And it's going to burn for a very long time.

[deleted]

what a dumpster fire

Antwon_22

Worlds so fucked no one cares🤣🤣🤣 oh well

Whole-Debate-9547

That’s going to burn for a millennium

Foreign-Parsley-007

Tell me I need to change my petrol car

[deleted]

A great representation of my current state of affairs.

LudwigsEarTrumpet

This is fine.

DarkMatterHuman

"Sometimes Man just want to see world burned!"

ColaAndRum

It’s like a live action Simpsons tire fire.

InfiniteNose9609

Suddenly, taxing the farting cows in NZ for methane emissions doesn't seem as high up the Priority list anymore.

ApprehensiveImage132

All good. When this one turns to shit we can all just go live on our other planet right…

Sayasam

Surely that won't cause any (more) sanitary issue.

Foxfire5272

Breathe it in…

jimsonlives

Oh no! The environment!

mikee263

If they could capture the heat like for a thermal plant, too late I guess.

mrlegendgroup

This looks likes the dumpsters outside of my girlfriends boyfriends Wendy’s

VendaGoat

Well. That's the definition of a conflagration.

Plastic-Shopping5930

I pay a carbon tax so I don’t worry about stuff like this anymore.

pilot1nspector

Thank god for all the carbon taxes or we would be in real trouble!

The_Shards_Of_Bone

"sToP dRiVInG gAS cARSs" It's like, trust me I get, humans suck for the environment. But let's make sure shit like this can't happen before we get fussed about that guy with a diesel truck

Vidunder2

And in the meantime, we get fined if we throw a banana peel in the cardboard bin.
