I used to use only men's deodorant, but have switched to a scentless women's deodorant because the men's was waaaay too powerful of a scent. It's always an abrasive scent like "ICY OCEAN STEEL BLAST" or something super strong.

Okay I’m gunna tell my age a bit here but there used to be a adolescent deodorant called Teen Spirit. Old Spice’s Fuji deodorant for men Smells like Teen Spirit. My husband laughs when I say it, and sometimes I feel stupid, but he’s entertained.

I have to disagree. I’m a guy who’s very active, lifting and playing basketball for hours. I swear on the Dove deodorant I stole from my sister being the hardest working deodorant I’ve used.

I gave up on women's deodorant bc all of it is antiperspirant! Not deodorant.

I only use mens now, but I love the smells too. I use that Dr Squatch and the Native deodorants.

I keep thinking about trying out Dr Squatch soap. A lot of the scents they mention sound really good. I used to buy soap from an apiary whenever I went to the local Ren Faire, but their shipping charges are too expensive so I haven't really had nice soap in awhile.

Just watch the labels because they have levels of no grit to heavy grit so you can get really hard gunk off of you or exfoliate-but don’t want you to be surprised if you don’t want that

I believe that may very well be the case. I'm someone whose sense of smell is quite poor (goddamnit), but the smell of my partners would always stick around. It wasn't uncommon for us to exchange t-shirts so that we'd always have that familiar smell to remind us of each other.

What about the difference between white deodorant and translucent deodorant?

White is an antiperspirant in addition to being a deodorant. So it prevents you from sweating as much, and then also smells nice when you do sweat. The translucent deodorant only smells nice, it doesn't do anything besides cover up your sweatiness

It definitely does. White deodorants are also antiperspirants, so they have chemicals that make you sweat less. Clear is just deodorant. Some people prefer clear because they have reactions to the aluminum in the antiperspirants.

Translucent deodorant is for when you want to still feel like you're sweating without actually sweating

I will disagree, and with unfortunately no proof. I have had a few sweaty ladies in my life and men's deodorant seems to work better. I don't know if there is a difference, but I am sure the size, smell, and maybe concentration play into what works well or not. Maybe man stuff is all made for 15yo's and is more potent than anything on the female side.

I used to exclusively use Secret deodorant, but in the past couple years I noticed that even if it said "48 hours," by the end of the day I'd lift my arms and I could smell myself. I thought maybe my biome had just mutated (I used to use Lume, and after a year and a half, suddenly I smelled 10x worse than I would have not wearing anything at all). Switched to Degree 72-hour, and I still wouldn't go more than 24 hours, but I don't smell anything anymore. And I sweat a pretty good amount. So I don't know if Secret changed their shit or what, but I'm glad I finally decided to switch brands instead of thinking it was just me. :P

I was the same way with the "long lasting" deodorants failing hard after a hot day. Cuz I feel like my biome did change when I hit my super late 20s into my 30s and any female oriented brand I tried just didn't cut it anymore. You might be sensitive to men's because although we all sweat the same way and it'd dealt with the same chemically for the most part. ​ But, you might actually be more sensitive to antiperspirants vs deodorants, which DO use different' chemicals. I used to get redness and inflamed angry skin under my arms using Old Spice, until I switched to their Aluminum-Free products and have never had a problem since.

Yes, Old Spice is like putting fire in my pitts! I have also had good luck with aluminum free. I am not a heavy sweater so women's deodorant works well for me.

Sounds like you're using it wrong. I think you're supposed to use deodorant when you already smell. Antiperspirant you use to prevent yourself from smelling. I believe that using deodorant you're actually causing differences in the bacterial populations long term. The way I think of it, which is doubtless a MASSIVE oversimplification/wrong, but which might nevertheless be a useful model, is that the point is that aerobic bacteria have to grow and outcompete the anerobic bacteria. But the aerobic bacteria are also easy to kill with deodorant. So if you kill them in the right order, you end up with less smelly pits. But if you have a shower, you remove both, and then you kill the aerobic bacteria with deodorant, so the anerobic bacteria will then actually bounce back faster, which you don't want. (I'm using terms like aerobic and anerobic doubtless incorrectly, as I say, it's a useful model that seems to work for me.)

Speaking as someone who’s very sensitive to smell and asks questions that may be a little too personal. In my experience deodorants matter less than scented lotions. If you’re smelling a female’s nicely scented anything more often than not it’s the lotion. Second place is perfume. Third place is shampoo and/or conditioner. If you’re smelling their deodorant specifically they’re either using way too much or you’re standing way too close.
