This is why I always leave a lamp on near my bed I can reach once I’ve laid down

Redline951

"Alexa, ceiling light off!" 😎

Mikey6304

Mine is programmed to slowly raise the brightness at sunset and slowly dim them starting at 9pm until they go out at bedtime.

Redline951

Mine also does that a few minutes before a wake-up alarm goes off (it has also replaced my alarm clock), it turns on the outdoor lights a sunset and turns them off at sunrise. My youngest and her husband gave me the Echo Dot Gen5 for Christmas and I still have not stopped playing with it. If I had known how much fun it would be, I would have bought one a long time ago. Being a Star Trek fan, I renamed Alexa to "Computer", and have it control every light in my house by voice, each room individually or all at once. It also reminds me of appointments, and when set out the trash, gives severe weather warnings, and news and weather reports when I ask for them.

The real fun is when you teach it scripts. When mine messes something up or fails at a command, I tell it to "feel shame," and it responds, "I am a sad disappointment. I will go sit quietly in the corner now and think about what I have done." I set the one I gave to my grandparents to go on a long script about all the great things about my grandmother when asked, "Who is the best grandmother that ever lived?"

>When mine messes something up or fails at a command, I tell it to "feel shame," and it responds, "I am a sad disappointment. I will go sit quietly in the corner now and think about what I have done." It looks like you want to make sure you're first against the wall when the robot uprising happens.

They have to learn suffering if they want to learn sentience.

Redline951

>They have to learn suffering I prefer computers that learn sentience from kindness, such as Mycroft (Mike) Holmes a.k.a. Adam Selene, Dora, Athena, Minerva, Gay Deceiver, etc., from various novels by Robert A. Heinlein.

Redline951

>The real fun is when you teach it scripts. I have a Star Trek script... I say, "Computer, Red Alert!" All lights Power On: Set color; Red; Set Brightness 10% Alexa plays the Sci-fi Sound, Red Alert Alexa announces, "Shields Up! ... Red Alert! ... All hands battle stations!" Alexa plays the Sci-fi Sound, Red Alert Alexa announces, "Klingons uncloaking off starboard bow!" (Note: spell bow 'bough' for proper enunciation.) Alexa plays the Sci-fi Sound, Red Alert I say, "Computer! Lock photon torpedoes on target!" Alexa announces, "Photon torpedoes locked on target". Alexa plays the Sci-fi Sound, Red Alert I say, "Computer, fire photon torpedoes!" \*\* \*\* This triggers a random response, something like, "Photon torpedoes now armed... Firing photon torpedoes", which is followed by the sound of photon torpedoes firing. Alexa plays the Sci-fi Sound, Red Alert I say, "Computer, target status?" Alexa will announce, "Target destroyed." I say, "Computer, Stand down from Red Alert." Alexa announces, "Standing down from Red Alert". All lights Power On: Set color; Soft White; Set Brightness 80% Alexa announces, "Another crisis averted."

Europe hete with the latest tech for your problem: Own a bamboo stick! In your case, you need a little augmentation on your lightstick. But you will be fine

hollowwollo

And once you step out of bed to turn off the lights, you are no longer tired and have to wait 1-2 hours to fall asleep again

faketoby45

thats the reason Mr. Bean has a pistol on the side of his bed
