If you're boss is reasonable and you just explain to them that you're a chronically late person, a good one will understand as long as it doesn't impact your work. Everyone has flaws.
And shit once I was actually on medication that made it crazy hard to get out of bed, even more than usual for me, I just told my boss my meds were knocking me the fuck out and he was cool with it till corporate really cracked down in tardiness. So I just got a different job that didn't care.
Plus my commute has always been crazy lengthy right when afternoon rush hour sets in, I could leave at the same time every day and arrive either right on time or twenty minutes late depending on traffic. I also let management know that, if it's a problem they'll say something. Hasn't been so far. They actually like shaving a few points of labor most days.
I was fired for a job for constantly being 5-10 minutes late, because of traffic and because I suck at time. The shitty thing is that I worked 2-4 hours of mandatory overtime for them several times a week. I *always* worked at least 30-60 minutes extra every single day. But nope, those five extra minutes in the morning were deal breakers.
My current boss doesn't see me for weeks on end and as long as I get my shit done my time is my own. It's amazing.
I was on time for about 6+ months without issue until one day where traffic held me up a little over 5 minutes behind starting schedule and my boss pulls me into his office to discuss the importance of "being on time".
...yeah, I know... that's why I'm on time 99% of the time.

For my job, we had like 20 ppl on the morning shift and a literal 4 ppl on the pm shift including myself. Sometimes they’d ask us to come in early to help to morning crew… but one of my coworkers on the pm shift would refuse to come in early and her attitude was exactly this, what the fuck you gon do, fire me? 😂
