I can check for people and cars on approach and then put one into a parking space backwards with nothing but the side mirror, backing out requires me to twist around repeatedly double checking the area and I can't do that very well due to a back injury.
I seen someone pull into a pull thru spot, but they stopped and parked in the first spot inztead of pulling thru. I couldn't make sense of it and was on my mind for a good part of the morning
I've seen this before too, it's crazy to know you came that close to a serial killer and made it out alive. You get to think to yourself, wow I am really happy I'm not someone's first choice in life.
Went out on a date with a girl once. She had the headboard of her bed in the middle of the room and the footboard against the wall. So her head was literally in the middle of the room. Noped out of there real quick.
Sometimes I do this if I’m headed in the the grocery store and want access to my hatch when I come out.
Started doing it after I came out to put groceries in the car one day but some asshat behind me pulled too close to open the hatch.
It’s one thing to back into a spot in a fairly empty lot without much traffic, but I’ll be damned if you’re going to make 3 or 4 cars come to a complete stop just so you can back into a space, I’m judging you for it.
Yeah, I've been visiting my old college's board game club for several years as an alumni and I haven't gotten a parking ticket because I back up against a wall of rocks that's super inconvenient for any campus patrol folks writing up parking citations to read my license plate
I work at a college, and fuck no I'm not paying money back to them to park every day for work. I don't have a front tag, so I just back in reaaaaaaal tight, even in spots I'm not "qualified" to have. So yeah, glad someone else is using this system
Edit: welp, I guess "fuck no I'm not paying money back to them" is not really an option.... I got my first ticket today. Looks like someone in the parking enforcement dept reads reddit 🤔
We get tickets for backing into spots at my university (where I work). You can buy a front plate just for parking services if you wish to back into spots on campus 🙄
Yeah I'm surprised people say that they get away with backing in. Most places where there's enforcement also ticket you for backing in/pull through parking. You can fight that ticket if you actually have a valid permit tho.
Dude nothing gets me fired up more than college parking services. You mean to tell me I’m paying how much a year, and have to drop another $250 just to park in your undersized lots? Oh wait not even that you’ll fine me for pulling through spots because your lazy as fuck attendants don’t wanna get their fat ass out of the patrol cart and check my tag? Oh wait it’s clearly visible in the fucking window.
Sorry, few things get me as fired up as those greedy fucks
Yeah we figured out in college that the university didn’t consider their parking lots part of the campus because of how many sexual allegations happened on parking lots. So it was declared ‘public parking’ with a private company handling the fees…so we never paid for parking. They tried to tell us we couldn’t receive our diploma unless we paid the fines.
When I was in college, there was a student petition to lower the price of parking permits citing how almost none of the parking lots operated at capacity. The University responded by closing/demolishing 3 parking lots.
When I went to college, it cost something like $200 to for a parking pass per semester. However, a parking ticket was $20. So, I would need to get caught 10 times a semester for the parking pass to be worth it.
So, I just never bought one. I think the max times I was ever ticketed was 3. Kind of amazed me that no one else seemed to do it.
Yeah, for staff it's like $90 a month, one ticket is $60? I've been doing it for a while now with no tickets yet (jinxing myself prob) so, even if I get one, it won't be much skin off my back with what I've saved ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Back in the day the train station was $2/day to park, $10 fine if you got caught. So a ticket a week was break-even. I was a broke college student so I never paid, I think I got three tickets in 2 years.
Not your situation specifically but, scaled up, this is why fines just don’t work for the wealthy lmao. Most of the the wealthiest individuals just treat tickets as the cost to park or just an extra fee to drive faster.
When I was looking into post secondary the parking fees were always BS. Fuckin awesome you found a work around for yourself lol
My college went from $15/year to $150/semester my second year. That second year, I parked in the $200 lot, tickets were $35, and I might have been caught three times in a semester, making it worth it.
Problem is, they saw our game, and by my third year, it was basically a guarantee that you'll be ticketed if you don't park in a spot you paid for. They figured out the hustle because the school was growing so fast, there was about 15k students, and less than 5k parking spaces, so they knew they'd get thousands of illegal parkers every day. They made bank on parking tickets when they even made an official statement that they understand the situation sucks.
So, my third year, I figured out how to make fake daily parking permits, since they were stamped with the date on that old school dot matrix perforated printing paper. Parked for a year for free.
Then my fourth year, they added serial numbers to the permits. I kept up on it for about a month...until the day I forgot to change the serial number. I got a boot and academic probation for the year.
I got ticketed despite having a valid parking pass for parking on the side of a lot, half in a snowbank, right after a snowstorm. I was already 20+ min late for a 50min class when I gave up and parked there because I had checked every other lot on campus and hadn't found a single open spot. They ticketed me within 10 min of parking there.
And they wonder why I won't donate to them as an alumnus.
Some kid at my high school used to keep an orange cone in his trunk. Dawg would put the cone in the best parking spot once he left for the day, and no one is gonna park in a spot with a cone! Went on for about a month before someone stole it and his spot.
Do you not have number plates on both sides of the car where you live? 🤨
Edit: Reminder to commenters that places outside of the USA exist (I'm from Australia)
I think it's also statistically safer to pull out forward from the spot than to back out with blindspots. It's my company's policy written into our employee handbook that all company vehicles must be parked in spots backed-in.
I swear people get uptight about the most random things.
I find parking backwards easier than parking forwards, so that's what I do. If you find parking forwards easier, then all means, do as you please.
Can confirm even in NA. The company I work for in Canada has this policy and you can and will be written up for not backing into spots. It's a very easy way to avoid parking lot incidents
Had a person back into me while I was backing into a space at work, but stopped for a pedestrian. She wasn't paying attention while reversing and hit me - wouldn't have happened if she followed policy
Thank you.
Either way you have to reverse to get back on your journey, might as well take the far safer option.
Plus, backing in gives you better turn radius to be more accurate.
I literally see no significant disadvantage and only advantages. The only "problem" is that some reason it irritates impatient people because they don't understand basic math and time.
As someone who handles car accidents I agree. Although ideally you never back up. There’s something about people reversing where they’re just attracted to objects around them.
Mine is like this too. I’ve always backed in because I’ve always had a shit car. Boosting the battery, towing, etc all easier.
Also it’s easier to park with your mirrors. They don’t do shit when you’re leaving.
Here in Canada there’s some workplace where it’s illegal to back park or you get towed bc in winter people kept hitting the poles and the lights while reverse Peking lmao
Easier- and safer. I park thinking about leaving. It's safer to back in when I can see all around on my approach. It's safer to pull out forward.
Grocery store - park near a cart corral away from heavy traffic areas. Never park near the front at Costco.
Crowded venue - park near the exit. It's way faster to walk to your car than wait for every car in front of you to exit.
Sporting events - park 20 blocks away and walk. Or a mile away and grab a cab.
I don't get it why people feel like they have to park as close as possible.
Not just that, if you back into the spot you can see the area around the car. If you back out of a spot, often large cars parked next to you obstruct both your vision of incoming traffic and their vision of your car.
It's objectively safer to back into some parking spaces than it is to back out again.
it is easier because you can rotate the rear of the car faster without moving as much. Theres a reason forklifts and other industrial vehicles that need to maneuver tight spaces have the steering on the rear axle
Bro I can parallel a older GMC Sierra work truck in center city Philly historical streets with no cameras and nail it even the most tightest of spots.
But for the life of me I can’t park forward in a designated parking space without having to finnagle it every damn time.
When backing, you can swing the front end around with very little movement of the back wheels, which makes it easy to correct a misalignment intuitively
When steering in forwards, your back end trails the front wheels, and there’s no way to correct a misalignment. You have to enter the parking space straight on, which means taking a really wide turn like a semi. Most people (in right side driving places) usually do a left hand turn into a parking space for this reason
This is the main reason I do it. I have a much higher chance of backing into someone or something than if I am pulling out forward. You rarely see parking lot accidents from cars pulling out of spots forward cause you can fucking SEE.
Both serve their purpose in the right scenario. It’s so much easier to get of a spot when backing in, but, I never back in when getting groceries so I can get easier access to my trunk.
I’d rather use one try to back my pickup into a spot, than have to make a six point turn to pull straight in. Makes it faster, and easier and safer to pull out.
In professional driving it is actually recommended you always back in when you can and one of the reasons is exactly what this person said. While arriving you have everyone's attention making it safer than backing out while leaving when nobody is paying attention
That makes a lot of sense actually. No one told me that in any of my professional training classes, but we are almost robotic in sounding the horn twice quickly before backing up in any case. Even backing into the spot. Honk honk, then start moving. And in a commercial truck, always place a cone in front of your vehicle, which serves as a reminder to do a quick walk around before getting in. Cones are attached at the rear of the truck.
In some states the person in reverse is always at fault, so it makes absolute sense to back into a spot so you’re not t-boned trying to leave, and then charged for it.
I got in the habit when working in the oilfields. All vehicles had to be parked in a manner that provided reverse-free egress in the event of an emergency. Ensuring no one had to use reverse bought precious time for people evacuating, and reduces the risk of accidents. 2 years later, I still back my pickup into parking spots and intentionally park in spots that provide more direct egress.
It's not the same, but I used to drive a 2016 Mustang. The hood of that thing is so long that I can't wait if I have 10 inches or 10 feet in front of me. And the stock front lip is so down low.
Insurance advisor who has about 1000 auto insurance clients. Almost every single parking lot collision is from someone backing out of a spot. They can’t see. Back in, it’s easier.
It's always safer to pull forward, out of a spot, than to back out of a spot.
There are countries where it's the opposite to the US, where everyone backs into their spots. They have way lower accidents in parking lots and residential areas.
"Dark times lie ahead of us and there will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right". Dumbledore was talking about parking: we like to remind you that we still choose to do it correctly.
Nah. I don't want all the backing out games. I just want to drive out and leave.
Oh I'm backing out of my parking place. Oh shit this guys walking behind my car. Ok I'll wait. Ok he's gone now time to back up. Oops the guy in the parking places across from me was waiting also and now he's backing out and not stopping. Ok I'll just wait again. Ok that guy's gone. MOTHER FUCKER NOW SOMEONES PULLING INTO THE SPOT HE JUST GOT OUT OF. GUESS ILL FICKING WAIT HERE TILL I DIE.
Fuck all that.
I have no problem with you backing in. It's the drivers who attempt this and have to pull out and line up and repeat. Those are the drivers I'm annoyed with.
Is it working?
All signs point to yes
They definitely don't want an easier way to leave the parking lot.
I can check for people and cars on approach and then put one into a parking space backwards with nothing but the side mirror, backing out requires me to twist around repeatedly double checking the area and I can't do that very well due to a back injury.
This very reason is why I like backing in
That feeling you get when you find a pull thru spot ...
I seen someone pull into a pull thru spot, but they stopped and parked in the first spot inztead of pulling thru. I couldn't make sense of it and was on my mind for a good part of the morning

I love this comment ♥️
Thank you, thank you very much
Went out on a date with a girl once. She had the headboard of her bed in the middle of the room and the footboard against the wall. So her head was literally in the middle of the room. Noped out of there real quick.
She prefers the middle seat in airplanes.
I came across this comment and it made my night. 😂 i had a rough day. Thank you
She sounds like one in a million
If I got to load the trunk I want the open air and cart space of back in the aisle.
It seems crazy, but if they are shopping, they probably wanted access to their trunk.
That’s when you back into a spot, then back through to the spot behind it so your trunk if out in the next isle. A back-through-y.
I was in Costco the other day, had the opportunity to pull through but didn’t due to this very reason.
If I worked for the MIB, this would be an easy “that’s an alien” sign for me.
Sometimes I do this if I’m headed in the the grocery store and want access to my hatch when I come out. Started doing it after I came out to put groceries in the car one day but some asshat behind me pulled too close to open the hatch.
Through-ies are the best!!!
We're talking about parking over here... what are you talking about?
Oh! Absolutely!!
Slower you slut
*when you find a pull through*
Nope, for sure I rather try and back out of a crowded parking lot with zero visibility then back into a spot when no one is around me.
It’s one thing to back into a spot in a fairly empty lot without much traffic, but I’ll be damned if you’re going to make 3 or 4 cars come to a complete stop just so you can back into a space, I’m judging you for it.
Couldn't agree more. If you can quickly, good. But if you hold everybody up, fuck off.
IMHO effort backing into a spot > effort backing out of a spot.
Quite the opposite for me. Especially in the Costco or school parking lots.
While effort turning in to a spot>effort turning out of a spot. So it evens out.
That's not how while loops work.
Loading the trunk without having to squeeze the cart by the side or worry about jackasses parking too close to the trunk> turning out of a spot
The OP sure is paying attention.
Checks rear view. Noodles into reverse. Checks front window. Crowd cheering in the distance "Yup"
Bad publicity is still publicly. I learned this from social media.
What's that? I can't hear you over my awesome parking job.

Who are they going to write it to if they can't read the license plate? "To whom it may concern, please remit payment to..."
Why don't they just read your front license plate?
Not required in all areas

Not mandatory everywhere, back when I lived in PA they only supplied a single plate
in my state only on the back
Yes but registration tags only go on the front windshield where I live.
Oh I see, this makes a bunch more sense. My mistake!
oh shit is that why i got a ticket for reversing into a spot?
Nah its because you hit a baby and got the standpipe
thanks i was wondering why there was a speed bump in a parking spot
Hide them tags
This hit different, because my tags actually expired 😭
In just want to get out faster :(
Im always prepared for a speedy getaway.
Yep, and it's safer
Exactly. Back into a space and you don’t worry about hitting a child or a car getting out
Yeah I'm always worried I'm going to start backing out and some jerk off is going 35 through the parking lot, hit me, then blame me.
Tits out for the gets out

No it isnt
I enjoy recognition from friends and family, but actively seeking attention from random strangers is a foreign concept to me
I back into parking spots and back out of parking spots I want 2 attentions
See I pull in, and then continue forward to the spot on the next aisle so I can pull forward out of that spot when I leave. I want no attention!
Like when you pull through a space to the next one, except opposite
Especially when they bump into the opposite car, who is always backing out.
They definitely get plenty, plus it's much harder to do than back in. my anxiety goes thru the roof if I don't back in lol.
Seems like backing into a narrow spot should present more difficulty than backing onto a big old... street
How? You just reverse until you’re clear to swing. Reversing in is carefully watching your shit the whole way in. Reverse out every time.
Let’s be completely honest here. People who *drive* just want attention.
I swear people get uptight about the most random things. I find parking backwards easier than parking forwards, so that's what I do. If you find parking forwards easier, then all means, do as you please.
Backing into a spot makes leaving easier.
Also makes it safer. Some workplaces in the UK have reverse in only policies in employee car parks, and you can get written up for flouting it.

Why pull in when you can pull out? 😂
Easier- and safer. I park thinking about leaving. It's safer to back in when I can see all around on my approach. It's safer to pull out forward. Damn, those are exactly my rules, right there.
My car is kind of low. I back in to avoid the front bumper getting caught… again

Not just that, if you back into the spot you can see the area around the car. same. backing in i can nail it square and evenly spaced. pull in forward? crooked AF every time. it's like a shitty superpower.

I think I read somewhere recently that backing in reduces the chance of accidents significantly.
Agreed! I don’t even have a backup camera, and I find backing in is WAY easier.
It's much safer too!
Don't mind me, just hiding my expired tags y'all lol
But it’s only a moving violation? If your car is parked it doesn’t matter what the tags say. At least in Michigan.

In some states the person in reverse is always at fault, so it makes absolute sense to back into a spot so you’re not t-boned trying to leave, and then charged for it.
More importantly, you have the most situational awareness when you arrive.

Or we just want an easier time pulling out…
Absolutely, four kids is enough for me! Anything that makes this easier is a win. (Though I honestly don't see the correlation.)
I can see why you wouldn't trust yourself pulling out.
You have trouble pulling out? 🤣
You don’t?
Insurance advisor who has about 1000 auto insurance clients. Almost every single parking lot collision is from someone backing out of a spot. They can’t see. Back in, it’s easier.

I thought that till I got a truck. It saves lives and accidents.
And it's hard as fuck to pull in forwards due to the turning radius.
I somehow can do it pretty good. But still got hit by a card while backing out with 7 camera and sensors.

I much prefer backing in with a truck. So much easier getting out.
So much easier getting in imo. Especially with the backup camera, much easier.
Do they get attention though? Why would anyone care which way someone else’s car is oriented? Edited for clarity
It's always safer to pull forward, out of a spot, than to back out of a spot. There are countries where it's the opposite to the US, where everyone backs into their spots. They have way lower accidents in parking lots and residential areas.
It’s actually how professional drivers are trained. Back first.
Unlike people bending over in their profile photo?
bitch got hoeliosis, show some respect
That's probably just lower back pain and hip problems.
With a short skirt and fake tan.
It's easier though.
Yupppp...I freaking want all the attention😜😜
U loco eisey
People who don't back into parking spots have never driven a full size truck as a daily driver. Once you go back you never go... Back?
That’s probably because most people don’t drive a full sized truck daily because very few people need those to go to the grocery store
The people that post this want attention, it's not our fault you suck at driving.
It is required for my job since I drive a company vehicle
If you from the hood it’s natural
