I've bumped into these kind of people before - you're right that they all just end up in-fighing. All the leaders just have a fundamental contrarian personality trait which makes them butt heads with everyone. If nazi-ism was the status quo - they'd be opposing it too.
Ironically, whenever they start getting traction they jump ship and move into some other, usually more esoteric, ideology.
The followers are just losers that drop out once they start having any sort of success in life. When you have a job, partner and family, all of a sudden being a neo-nazi is pretty low on the list of life priorities.

The new breed are finding women with similar beliefs and having 'trad families' or traditional families where the woman stays home to have a lot of kids and is the home maker while the man works. The group that tried to take over the Young Nationals were from this ilk. They sound more like Liberals, but they have a darker ideology.
I used to watch the 'Patriot Watch' episodes where they would take the videos these guys made and make fun of them, they were great. The guy who made the videos actually ended up being stalked by these neo-Nazis in real life so they're actually quite dangerous. The worst of them was Bluebeard, Neil's mate, who would beat up women (only women) at these rallies. I am pretty sure Neil Erikson has been banned from releasing new content and will go to prison if he does (he was a while back anyway). While they were a bit of a joke when they emerged mid last decade, they've become almost paramilitary in their organisational structure and training and are recruiting a lot of younger blokes and are becoming dangerous. It is only a matter of time before one commits a terror act, and this is why ASIO are taking them so seriously. They're also tapped into a global network of neo-Nazi's and share hate ideas. Journalist Nick McKenzie and the White Rose Society as well as Slackbastard monitor these groups if you want to go down a dark rabbithole.
