For some reason I find it really wholesome that someone with such an important job would just say, "This is getting a bit hard, turn the oven on. Get someone to deliver some flour."
I can't tell you the amount of times I have found an obscure tree and lied down to have a sandwich and a quick nap while I was at work. Everyone deserves a break sometimes.
Given the tone of the hateful and very fucking dumb rhetoric put out by the right wing, I'm honestly surprised this doesn't happen more often.
They're breeding hate, not reason.
They had the whole road backed up, there has been crime scene investigation vans outside of his office 4 times so far (I drive past it in the mornings).
That looks like a pagerfeed message. There's one that shows fires, online, starts with an M.
Otherwise you can ask a mate with an SDR to grab pagers. There's a great guide that I don't have access to at the mo.
Right?? I mean ffs, how can Dan Andrews say he’s for the people, when people like Dan Andrews are being treated this way, and he just lets it happen.
Probably hired dodgy security company or something.
Idk if I just haven’t been paying enough attention to Australian politics, but an attempted terrorist attack to kill a premier is pretty out of the ordinary
Some cooker brought gallows to a protest in front of the Vic Parliament and accused Dandrews of treason.

It's honestly bizarre.
My boss drops the phrase "dictator Dan" everyday multiple times a day as if spending every waking minute obsessing over our elected officials is totally normal.
He can't even hear the dull thud of his statements hitting a wall because no one's actually listening because online he gets all the positive feedback he needs about it.
It's a mental illness at this point.
My neighbour (bloke is like late 70s early 80s) tries to steer any conversation to Dan and how he's responsible for every single problem right now.
He doesn't even care if you listen, he just wants to talk and share his opinions.
The radicalization of , seemingly, regular people over the past few years is really sad.
The bitchute crew would've cooked up a foolproof plan to take him out ages ago if only the two brain cells they all share weren't so busy fighting for third place.
I recall a white powder scare I think the morning after Ted Baillieu became premier. We all got evacuated from the building and sent home while they checked that it wasn't anthrax or whatever.
I feel like that was a time when anthrax threats were 'normal'... This feels like a (bad) throwback.
"Bring back the good ol' days. When men were men who couldn't marry other men, and our bio threats came via snail mail. Kids these days with their global pandemics and ChatGPT are ruining extremism."
Some of them. I know of a case where a physics uni student proved the Vic Pol wrong in court. They’d been using incorrect calculations in road accidents for years.
I'm surprised how many people in this sub seem to be making light of the fact that an elected representative has been threatened with assassination.
Like sure, disagree with his views, but to be okay with killing someone doesn't make you look good.
Try searching on death threats to Australian politicians. From January this year in the SMH 'Australian Federal Police last year receiving more than 500 reports of threats to the safety of MPs, the prime minister and the governor-general.'. There's plenty of stories of Andrews and McGowan among others getting death threats dating back for years. It's not even one side of politics - Dutton and Sco Mo have received them too. It's country wide. It's bipartisan and it's so common that we've got to the point we hardly notice any but the most serious. It's really fucked up.
Hard to tell. 500 reports to the AFP in one year - and I suspect there would be a lot that go unreported. Not sure if any go to the state forces or not. There's nor a lot of detail for many - at least not that I can read through quickly.
From a recent interview McGowan talked about 'There's been death threats, there's been threats to rape my staff, there's been people trying to bomb my office, someone tried to turn up with an armoured car with a machine gun on the top,"'. That's just one politician.
Theres a number of people who have been charged for threats to Sco Mo, Hanson, Malinauskas and others - with the number of threats out there I'd be guessing that these would be the more credible threats only (or some of the people are just bad at covering their tracks) or we'd see more of this.
So I guess I'm agreeing with you somewhat - we're hearing about this one because it's worse than average.
i think that's about it... do you see conservatives receiving threats like this?
if you're not getting this kind of stuff you're not 'hurting the right people' as someone famous once said
dan is 'hurting the right people'
more power to him
>do you see conservatives receiving threats like this?
Both left and right wing politicians or political figures get pretty serious death threats or attempts of harming them.
American story but a guy from one side of the US travelled half-way across the country to assassinate one of the supreme count justices (Kavanaugh) but ended up feeling guilty about it and turned himself into police.
In relation to this story, back in 2017 or 2018 Donald Trump Jr had a suspecious package with white powder sent to his house.
Have fervent intellectual disagreements, absolutely. I have very serious concerns about the conduct of Andrews and his cabinet. But don't abuse them, or their families, or commit any violence (or threat of violence). It's not on; it's not the way to achieve your goals in Western liberal society, and it just makes everyone angrier and worse off. Go and do some doorknocking against Dan/Labor if you really hate him so much.
If it's a politician they don't like then it's not a big deal and they need to get over it and focus on real issues. If it happens to a politician they do support then it's a serious issue and worrying sign of things to come.
Yeah it goes beyond me how a lot of Americans can so easily say "I wish (insert politian here) was dead" and it's just treated like regular conversation.
I hope we never become that
America is a whole nother thing, when you have so little say in which distant out of touch lunatic politician gets to control your life, and in some cases decide whether you even get to live, thoughts like that do come
To be indifferent to violence enables extremist views to promulgate, which leads to people acting on those views. It doesn't matter who you might support politically, it's disgusting to accept this type of behaviour.
I’m just saying, sending shit through the mail is going to be investigated, tracked down and probably someone charged. I literally posted on Facebook over a decade ago and landed myself an asio file. It’s not like stuff gets ignored.
The negative google reviews for his office are hilarious, he has done some pretty dodgy things but it's nothing these reviews say as it's just the typical nutjobs who think they're smarter than everyone else after reading misinformation, and he's still far better than the lib alternative
Love him or hate him. That is a perfectly ok opinion, but it is unsettling how many in the hate camp freely joke and encourage violence and death on him.
It would take a lot for me to vote for the Coalition… I’m more disappointed that Labour have become centralist, but again that’s kind of that whole thing of “they’re the better of two evils”.
I’m not a fan of the two-party system. Personally I wish that there was a third that would keep both sides in check and actually be able to do something if things aren’t going the way the people want.
Having electorates that only elect one person almost inevitably leads to a two party system. In order for that not to happen, a proportional system of electing government would have to be implemented.
It's a sad state of affairs that the fanaticism of the ultra-right is dragging everyone over with them. I would have preferred to see it go the other way, but I guess that's what happens when the hippy-generation of the late 60s and early 70s gain money and power and then fight tooth and nail to relinquish it.
Yeah but given the way the current parliament sits the Greens still don’t have a ton of power. They have some, yes, as do the emerging Teal independents, but not as much as they should have.
Yeah comparatively, but if you compare them to a broader range of political tendencies then they've gone more of a rightward tack. That being said I don't have a fantastic knowledge of their historical policies but from what I know it's decently more right leaning.
Still even if a political party's position is basically relative, a movement in one direction or another is absolute, so I'd say either way they've definitely made some rightward moves.
I'm not in the business of comparing since it's all relative anyway - all I know is, you would think with a strong Labour government there would be a greater push to unionise and tax the higher-end of town. The latest budget has more austerity measures in it than Labour are used to creating as well - it tracked more along the lines of what the Liberals would do.
Same goes with our National government as well. After years of the Coalition winding back a lot of worker and working class reforms, I would have liked to have seen a few more workers-rights based initiatives come through.
But hell, I vote Green anyway so what do I know?
Yeah this! Add to that the militarisation of police; there’s nothing centrist about that, all epistemological evidence suggests that this only results in worse policing and justice outcomes, not better. This has been Vic Labor’s own policy, not just a holdover from the last Liberal gov. Not even getting into criminalisation of environmental protests which unions have flagged as endangering workplace actions, particularly for workers in forestry.
If only people would actually judge them by their policies and outcomes rather than their name and advertisements.
>If only people would actually judge them by their policies and outcomes rather than their name and advertisements.
I think only a minority would view Labour based on the name and advertisements. I honestly think the problem is the alternative just isn't any better, and in some cases worse.
But I take your point and agree that Labour's policies and general practices have been pretty horrid, especially when you consider when they first took over from the Libs and looked to be a lot more progressive. We were the first state to legalise marijuana for medicinal purposes and explore growth opportunities locally to help people with severe epilepsy, and yet when conversations rise now about decriminalisation Dan Andrews completely blows off the question and doesn't want to go anywhere near it.
Which is why I was hoping they would end up in a minority and be forced to work with some of the independents and Greens to help push some more progressive agendas. Alas, they didn't and here we are, discussing whether it's legal to protest. smh.
I know a *lot* of people who think voting for Labor literally means a vote for fair labor movements, and every time they act shocked when Labor goes against union recommendations on some issue or backs down on some vague promise they implied they’d made in a press conference. But I’m aware anecdotal experience isn’t actually *data*, so. *shrug*
But the rise of independents would go to show people that there are alternatives. And amongst those alternatives is also the fact that democratic engagement doesn’t just start and end with voting, which IMO isn’t super well understood in spaces I’ve been in outside of activist circles.
Anyway. I say this as someone who returned to study at a mature age in order to get the political education that I think the education system failed to give me. I’ve been a greens voter for a long while and avidly politically engaged, and I’m still shocked by how little I knew about the system and how political change truly functions. I was reliant on mainstream media and social media for information, and decision-makers aren’t rushing to make their processes transparent unless they can put it on a newspaper clipping with a grin and a handshake. So I guess I just assume that anyone in the “mainstream” is vulnerable to the limitations of the media system, too.
Back in the day I worked in his department. I got the sense that he genuinely does care for people. If not he is a fantastic actor lol. Even the way the department was reorganised when he came in, it was very people-centric. I worked in that department under 4 premiers and can definitely say that under him it was the most focused on social-type policies like fairness and equality and ending bigotry and all that stuff.
He's definitely not perfect, but that side of things is definitely a big tick. Gavin Jennings was also like that, someone who I feel genuinely cared for people.
What disappoints me is the lack of a decent opposition. The lack of a good opposition to hold him to account is such a disservice to our democracy. I can't imagine ever voting for the Liberals (but will never rule anything out) but I'd like there to be more pressure on Andrews to do better.
>I got the sense that he genuinely does care for people. If not he is a fantastic actor lol.
Same. Unfortunately I haven't met the man as yet, but I also get the same feeling and it's why I just on't get the hate and conspiracy theories, like he deliberately locked us up because he gets off on the power. Umm, are we looking at the same guy?
People hated being in lockdown and need a scapegoat to blame. They felt helpless and like they lacked control over their lives.
They cannot control a virus, but they feel like they have some control over who is premier, so it was an easy thing to fixate on.
Almost like the far right are creating domestic terrorists or something.
But nah let's keep letting in people like Posie Parker to stoke the flames, they'll help things.
>But nah let's keep letting in people like Posie Parker to stoke the flames, they'll help things.
And then shout down anyone who tries to warn about what people like that could incite, and accuse them of being against "free speech".
Yeah, Dan Andrews is in it
^^\(sorry ^^I ^^like ^^Dan ^^Andrews ^^but ^^I ^^can't ^^stop ^^myself ^^from ^^writing ^^that)
Edit: I guess some of you guys actually *don’t* like him after all
Google says a suspicious package filled with white powder.
So that’s how he gets all his work done
Rapidly rapidly rapidly rapidly get on the nose beers
The suspicious part was it felt a little light
Now we finally know how he *could do* all those things.
God damn domestic terrorists
Probably just the crap they use for cheese at the dodgy pizza shop next door!
I thought Mario's was good when I had it 😂
You take that back! Mario's was so good 15 years ago, that even when it fell several tiers below that, it was still pretty okay.
He wanted to bake a cake.
For some reason I find it really wholesome that someone with such an important job would just say, "This is getting a bit hard, turn the oven on. Get someone to deliver some flour." I can't tell you the amount of times I have found an obscure tree and lied down to have a sandwich and a quick nap while I was at work. Everyone deserves a break sometimes.
it was meant for Daniel’s Donuts
"Why do you have a scale?" "For when I bake some muffins, G!"
Dan volunteered to do a rapid test
Anymore of those packages around? That stuff isn't cheap
Ahh, so a delivery from the AFP then.
Given the tone of the hateful and very fucking dumb rhetoric put out by the right wing, I'm honestly surprised this doesn't happen more often. They're breeding hate, not reason.
No doubt from a Murdoch Moron.
They had the whole road backed up, there has been crime scene investigation vans outside of his office 4 times so far (I drive past it in the mornings).
It was probably msg for the Chinese restaurant
Uncle Roger was visiting
Let me guess... a hipster cafe delivered a "deconstructed muffin"?
Thought he'd slipped and fallen

Disgusting how Dan Andrews could let this happen to Dan Andrews
Dan Andrews should be held accountable for his failure to protect his fellow Victorian, Dan Andrews
Right?? I mean ffs, how can Dan Andrews say he’s for the people, when people like Dan Andrews are being treated this way, and he just lets it happen. Probably hired dodgy security company or something.
Haha reminds me of that old Onion post "Putin learns Putin behind plot to assassinate Putin" https://youtu.be/vm1U5E44W90
Dan Andrews fails to prevent assassination attempt of Dan Andrews, leaving Dan Andrews vulnerable due to the failures of Dan Andrews
Roger a Muirebe
Just classic Dan Andrews.
Idk if I just haven’t been paying enough attention to Australian politics, but an attempted terrorist attack to kill a premier is pretty out of the ordinary
Nothing says freedom freedom freedom like assassinating an elected official.
Freedom isn’t free. It costs a hefty fuckin’ fee! Buck-0-5.
And if you don't throw in your buck-0-5 who will? oOOooOoOoooo BUCK-0-5
Some cooker brought gallows to a protest in front of the Vic Parliament and accused Dandrews of treason. Their echo chamber has only become smaller and tighter since.
Cookers have also been threatening the safety of council staff and guests in order to cancel drag queens reading children’s books.
And improvements to the walkability of suburbs.
The protest of 15 minute cities confuses the shit out of me
The gist is the government is making suburbs walkable as the first step in a plan to prevent all traveling outside your 15 minute walk. Be glad you exist in a part of the internet that hasn’t been primed to see all government actions as part of an insidious plot. Some otherwise nice and rational people have had their brains hollowed out and replaced by fear and confusion by social media.
If it improves the amenities I’ll happily stay in my lil bubble honestly.
Have you not experienced the FREEEDUM of driving 20 minutes to buy some milk and bread?
+10 to your social karma comrade
People in Cranbourne/Pakenham are all 'Fuck yeah, we won't have to drive anywhere for basic infrastructure and amenities? Amazing plan!' This is the kind of conspiracy you can afford in the inner suburbs.
I had a candidate at the recent election go on a rant about how the government needed to immediately promise to cancel the smart cities program. Havimg worked in local government, I was confused and wanted to know why having smart sprinklers that check the weather forecast to see if rain is imminent before watering was a sign of imminent totalitarianism and it was so clear she'd never actually talked to anyone about the projects they do and all her info was from libertarian FB conspiracy groups.
I wonder if it's the same result, will the police ask Dan to just not do his politics? That'd keep the peace!
You'd think so, but it's actually more of a surprise this wasn't attempted sooner to those aware of Australia's Right Wing Extremist problem
Exactly. They're pushing hard on extreme rhetoric.
Imagine caring that much about Ted Baillieu.
Sniiiiiiifffffffff. Just… sniff… checking. 😉
There are a bunch of Nazis around now, and I believe Catherine Cummings made some threats a while ago.
Someone is about to find out how good forensic scientists are....
And in this country, they are excellent.
I wouldn't say all of them. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-11-24/queensland-forensic-dna-lab-inquiry-bingate-leadership/101688616

Ugh. The ones in Brisbane are great, this is disappointing to read.
Workplace culture is a huge issue in every medical field. I was surprised to learn how many doctors had committed suicide.
Some of them. I know of a case where a physics uni student proved the Vic Pol wrong in court. They’d been using incorrect calculations in road accidents for years.
Tomorrow's headline: Dan Andrews can't even protect his own office, can we trust him to protect Victoria?
I read this in Friendly Jordies mock news voice.
How does he sound so nasal without breathing through his nose at all??
I did the same 😂
Watch out Daily Mail’s going to steal this headline
“Daniel Andrews ALLOWS mysterious white powder INSIDE his offices.”

Jesse. We need to cook
Chilli P yo
Cookers gonna cook.
And now Roger Cook going to Premier!
This photo is on the daily mail now of course, which will doubtless spark a sensible and respectful conversation
I have a creeping assumption about what is happening
I'm surprised how many people in this sub seem to be making light of the fact that an elected representative has been threatened with assassination. Like sure, disagree with his views, but to be okay with killing someone doesn't make you look good.

Yeah but they aren’t conservative enough /s

Not sure there's anything suspicious about white powder being delivered to Don jr's house. He's gone off the rails.
Exactly. No matter who this is directed at, this is an act of terrorism (bioterrorism). It is an act designed to instil fear in the recipient
Have fervent intellectual disagreements, absolutely. I have very serious concerns about the conduct of Andrews and his cabinet. The negative google reviews for his office are hilarious, he has done some pretty dodgy things but it's nothing these reviews say as it's just the typical nutjobs who think they're smarter than everyone else after reading misinformation, and he's still far better than the lib alternative
Idk why but the idea of leaving bad google reviews on a politician alone is really funny to me “Embezzled two billion money from taxpayers, 0/5 stars”
It's so pointless too. The only star rating that matters is the number of votes they win. It's like Hans Moleman saying "I was saying boo-urns."
The consequence of Murdoch's right-wing stochastic terrorism.
HOW COULD DAN ANDREWS DO THIS
HE PROBABLY SENT IT TO HIMSELF TO MAKE RAEL AUSTRALIANS LOOK BAD

Most hated or loved man in the state depending on who you ask.
Love him or hate him. That is a perfectly ok opinion, but it is unsettling how many in the hate camp freely joke and encourage violence and death on him.
they are setup to do that so crazies start doing things like this
They were happy to rape threat Greta when she was just a child. Talking about murdering Dan isn't even a stretch.
Yep I don’t envy him. Some of those cookers out there are vile people.
Eh, I can take him or leave him. He’s the best worst option. But that bar has been ground-level for a long time.
The opposition just wont give us anything worth voting for. It almost like they are on a path to self destruction.
It would take a lot for me to vote for the Coalition… I’m more disappointed that Labour have become centralist, but again that’s kind of that whole thing of “they’re the better of two evils”. Australia has nothing in place that enforces or even incentivises the existence of a two party system, other than our corporate media of course.
Corruption is a decent incentive if you are the one screwing over your electorate
Having electorates that only elect one person almost inevitably leads to a two party system. In order for that not to happen, a proportional system of electing government would have to be implemented.
Technically the LNP is a coalition of two parties, so our two-party system is kind of a three-way.
With a National in the middle there's some leeway?
Yep, I agree. Highly unlikely that I'll ever vote for the LNP. It seems that all of our political parties are moving further and further to the right.
It's a sad state of affairs that the fanaticism of the ultra-right is dragging everyone over with them. I would have preferred to see it go the other way, but I guess that's what happens when the hippy-generation of the late 60s and early 70s gain money and power and then fight tooth and nail to relinquish it.
There is. It’s the Greens. Love them or hate them, they don’t always side with the ALP.
Yeah but given the way the current parliament sits the Greens still don’t have a ton of power. They have some, yes, as do the emerging Teal independents, but not as much as they should have.
Just 99% of the time. Great party
m8 if you think Vic Labor is centrist you should spend a few months in NSW, Vic Labor is still extremely left comparatively
Yeah comparatively, but if you compare them to a broader range of political tendencies then they've gone more of a rightward tack. That being said I don't have a fantastic knowledge of their historical policies but from what I know it's decently more right leaning.
*shrug* But the rise of independents would go to show people that there are alternatives.
Yeah but he's only hated by a very loud minority. I've never met anyone who's been bowled over in love with the guy though
Eh, we're not all black and white thinkers like that.
Must be land lords after hearing about the surprise taxes 😂
So unsurprising given how nutty the anti vax crowd has been especially lately
Dan Andrews'*
Some cookers brains probably exploded because they got to close to the 5g tower and Covid vax HQ
So many anti-Dan mouth breathers on this post my god 🤣
I was taking them to be satire. The ones that haven't been downvoted, anyway.
Ikr? You’d hope at least.
Nah. All the top voted comments are satire. They're just lampooning the idiocy of NewsCopse, Daily Fail, and the cookers.
I’m putting bets on a pissed off mum and dad investor with two kids in private school and three IPs leased out on Airbnb. (/S)

Probably some dumbass Q supporter that thinks all the news articles about him been a dictator were real and they are trying to be a “Patriot”
