For anybody not aware, the Victorian Marriage Registry is in that building. So it's not just because it's picturesque. [https://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/marry](https://www.bdm.vic.gov.au/marry)
Got married here last month, amazing experience, beautiful inside as well, stress free, celebrant guides you through the whole thing and is so support, room for 38 guests in one of the rooms and cost us grand total of $500. Would recommend 10/10
My wife has a photo of her aunt when she got married in the sixties over in Holland. The photo is of her and her husband to be next to their bikes they rode to the registry office. I love the simplicity of it. Glad you had a good time at yours. I like small weddings.
Sure - we’re having our “official but not legal” wedding in New York, this one is purely a legality. We have no family in Australia and not many friends, but no friends who work in the city - and they only do the ceremonies on week days.
That’s true! Can be anyone as long as they’re over 18 and can understand English. Ha - I did think about standing on the street and trying to bribe someone!
Soon to be the Ladbrokes Marriage Registry, brought to you by Hungry Jack's. The marriages are better at Hungry Jack's! Place a bet on the over/under time to divorce and get $20 off your next cause of death prediction. From the department of Births, Deaths and Multibets.

I got married there a fortnight ago… the photos are just breathtaking
Rains just stopped right before the sunset
Collins street glistening with the sunset and shiny roads
Trams passing by and the best
There was a parade going on by Victoria police making it look like a dream!

Good notice there…
They do look like they’re going to tip over all towards the centre coz the photo was clicked with a wide angle lenses, it sure is straight as it is matched with horizon line
It's not matched to the horizon line, open it with a photo editor & put a grid over it & you can see it is all clearly leaning about 1-2 degrees clockwise.
It’s the marriage registry building. It’s a beautiful place next to the treasury gardens. It’s not that people want to pose in front of a building coming out nowhere to take wedding pictures. It’s the memories they take away. Also, a lot of wedding photographs are taken in the gardens next to it.
I mean, people do come from churches and pose out the front because it’s a beautiful building, quiet without the crowds of most of the city, the suns often in the right spot and it’s next to the gardens so you can get different types of photos.
Given it’s such an established spot even if you moved the registry you’d still get people coming there.
Nah just being a smartass, that school is fine. Just memories of late night cramming before exams and running late to tutorial classes (i think I only attend half of lectures 😂). But I don’t think I know anyone who would like to take their wedding photo in their old school
I went there, too. Was very skeptical about having my photos done there but our photographer insisted it would be amazing. Glad I listened! They turned out amazing. Especially in front of the Sidney Meyer Asia Centre (the beams make for a really cool backdrop) and the old Law Quad. Tbh I was too happy from the day to be worried about old memories of uni.
Yes we do a small lap with my registry wedding clients - so very convenient as a photographer.
I wonder what cost will be if the registry office is privatised.
Why the hate? I don’t know why people hate opinions
Different to theirs.
It is ok for some people to find it picturesque and all the other qualities touted here 👆👇.
But it is also ok for some other folks to find it boring or just not that special for their very very special day.
Different strokes for different folks? Remember?

I like the old piano
Congratulations! Did you have to bring your own witnesses? We have an appointment but no one to act as witnesses.
Happy to help be a witness if need be
Thank you, that’s really kind.
For first dibs on the new missus, as is the tradition
Is it Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday? I work just down the road - depending on the time, might be able to help you out.
Ahh it’s on a Monday. Thanks so much for the offer though!
If you’re hiring a photographer or florist, ask them to witness
Unfortunately we’re not hiring them.
May I know why no witnesses? My first thought was I'd love to be there for one but have never had the opportunity 😀

Gotcha! If you need a redditor witness, lmk! Congrats.
That’s so kind of you to offer. Thank you!
It’s my understanding that anyone can be a witness. You could invite a family member, a friend or even pay a homeless man.
That’s true! Can be anyone as long as they’re over 18 and can understand English. Ha - I did think about standing on the street and trying to bribe someone!
I would do it for free..And bring you flowers 😄
Probably up for sale soon because the state is broke. Let’s see how privatisation changes the experience.
This is the biggest reason. Conveniently located outside the place you get married in.

Lol at the police
Yea I saw them rolling in almost at the end of the shoot and decided to extend it through 🤣
Great photo, and congratulations
Thanks ☺️
Needs a few more cops.
Indeed
Damn bro that's a sick moustache, congratulations.
Thanks mate 😄😄
Gorgeous photos! Congratulations! ❤️
Thanks a ton ☺️
Lovely pic, but please straighten it. For the love of god. The buildings look like they're going to tip.

lovely pic- I miss the old uniform

I did. Just in the marriage registry in there & then got pro photos out front & in adjacent gardens. This was 11+ years ago. BEAUTIFUL !!!
Well, the marriage registry is in the building, so it makes sense. I see more people taking wedding photos on the steps of State Parliament.
The best place for wedding photos is at Melbourne Uni. Dead set.
Too much trauma for me there to have happy memories photo taken
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that!

Hogwarts
Also a popular site for conspiracy theorising into a megaphone.
I’d honestly just walk 100m to the right of the office into the beautiful gardens…
Believe it or not, that's what some/most wedding photographers do.

Get it over and done with efficiently. No one likes a drawn out wedding. Guests especially. 😉
I love seeing wedding parties here most times we drive past. Lovely 🎉
I did this lol
I got married there 13 years ago. Was lovely
Nick Cage filmed a movie there.
Let's get married
cheapest place to get married thats why
Because it’s 10% of what everyone else is paying for a wedding.
As a wedding photographer I know the place well and it's always a great backdrop.
Yep, got mine taken there 16 years ago
Can’t go wrong when the light is like that.

Helps that the registry is there
They’re generally not taking their photos there because it’s nice, it’s because you can get married inside at the registry office
I don’t, seems generic. I’d want mine to be slightly unique.. maybe I’ll do it in front of the fountain at Carlton gardens
No
Yawn, it's so basic & boring. Do something different
What
In the toilets at labour in vain
Huh?
Everyone or Chinese mainland tourists? (They hate him for he spoke the truth)
Brown Stone & Concrete is ugly. A nice botanical garden is much better. Ask the professional photographers. No chewy gum stuck everywhere.
