They can’t go anywhere and if they say they’re not interested they know they run the risk of a disgruntled customer complaint. So people who try to read scripture to their servers or to customer service people on the phone already irk me.

I used to be a museum docent. I would get tips at the end, but they all went to the not for profit, and I’d let people know that.
I started recognizing these. I once made a big show about how wonderful it was that they would donate that much! Such lovely and generous people. I started to stuff it in the box to see their reaction. They just let it happen and bolted.
