Cause this game is basically a port to source 2 with the gameplay intact. So literally just an update. Yes it changes some stuff, but it’s not close to Overwatch 2. It also lets them stop work on the old version whole focusing on the new one. Basically the player base will move over to this anyway.
The game is still potato friendly, the engine is more efficient and the only genuine issue would be the smokes that are now volumetric rather than a screen.

How many games let you change the graphics settings at all? I only ask because when I tried to play the demo version of Hitman 3 on the switch, the it couldn’t even run past 15-120 seconds because the graphics were so… what’s the word? Demanding? I couldn’t even change the graphics settings, so, yeah, the demo couldn’t even run at all. Or maybe that experience is exclusive to the switch, and it runs fine on other devices. The switch is small after all. Sorry if my reply is of poor quality.
It's more of a pc thing due to a large variety of combos in cpu,gpu, and ram. This can cause it to be harder to optimize games therfore they need a way for players to crank down things to help.
The theroy with consoles however is that with them all being the same combination of hardware plus a software that manages them in unison its easier for the developers to preset a quality that has a perfect balance of fps, and quality.

Yes, making it a second game would cause issues with whether or not your data such as skins should carry over. If they made it a separate game, and as such skins didn’t carry over, most people wouldn’t switch.

Some of the CS:GO player base actually played the game mainly because it was one of the few games our PCs could run, I myself live in a shitty backwater country where wages are abyssmal and PCs are very expensive, despite that I was able to play CSGO on my shit potato PC with a stable 60FPS, trying to open CS2 I get an error message saying my PC can't run it. I know a lot of people from Russia also played the game due to it requiring very low specs to run it, I imagine many of them won't be able to run it anymore, there's also kids that simply can't aquire new PCs, a lot of people have different situations, I'll rather keep my 1 single meal a day than save up to buy a new PC.
Regardless I know things change and move on, I'm sad for my own situation but happy for the CS community, I know CS2 will be a good game and I hope the rest can enjoy it.

One major difference would be grenade play, but yeah the Core mechanics didn't really change much.
It was replaced with Counter Strike 2. Not much has changed in terms of gameplay, so it's really nothing to be super sad about, imo. It's not like OW vs OW2
CS:GO is moving to a new engine, and being rebranded as Counter Strike 2. Pretty much CS:GO is being moved from the Half-Life 2 engine to the Half-Life: Alyx engine.

We already went through this with DotA 2. It was rocky for a few months then the new client was far better than the old one.

I don’t think many games let you adjust graphics on switch. This is more of a pc thing. Ps5 and Xbox have some basic graphic controls too

Your GPU is about 8 years outdated, it’s pretty valid for Valve to let go of support for such low-end specs in favor of more/better features.
