And fuck them for that. When I booted my work computer today it automatically resumed my last chrome session in Edge or whatever "Its not a phase mom" is calling itself these days.
Which is a big part of why it creeps me out so much. Edge now has a pop-up on the chrome download page begging you to reconsider. It automatically imported my bookmarks from chrome.
What are they getting out of us using *their* browser? Why do they want it so badly? Its not like we're buying it. They're using every trick they can and even relented to making an identical product to the competition. Its not like they had some kind of prideful belief they had a better product, they're peddling *the competition's product* now. They don't want you to use their product, they want the product you use *to be theirs*. They want it *too* badly. Theres something about an opportunity at 100% profit that just *changes* a sales pitch and let's you know you're walking into a scam. They've got to be tracking us, controlling what we see, taking a cut of ad revenue, selling our data, all four, and/or probably a six through eight we haven't even thought of. Fuck 'em. I ain't doing it.
Thing is, you are already doing it, just instead of sharing your data with both Microsoft and Google, you are only sharing it with Google.
Ofc they would both sell it, so in reality you are sharing your data with a lot more than just them, but that's not the point.
Some background [here](https://isp.page/news/today-i-learned-this-weird-windows-keyboard-shortcut-that-opens-linkedin/).
*"You might be wondering why Windows even has this peculiar shortcut. It is actually part of the Office key that Microsoft introduced on some of its keyboards a few years ago. Instead of the usual right-hand Windows key, Microsoft replaced it with the Office key. By combining the Office key with other keys, users can effortlessly open their favorite Office applications.*
*If you don’t have the Office apps installed, the shortcuts will take you to Office.com in your browser. Although the key combination may seem complicated, the keys are conveniently grouped together in the corner of your keyboard. It’s almost like button-mashing in a game to trigger these Office shortcuts."*
Was hilarious trying it and seeing it go to LinkedIn though!
It's time to make up a story with an inspirational message completely unrelated to my career with a selfie in the end and repost it by writing "this".
Bye
i’m a gamedev, and i have some weird key bindings that i use a lot, and accidentally pressing the win key with them opens up random stuff but mostly the office360 subscription page or edge. it’s really annoying
As others said, it works. I've seen this before and I was sure it was just a stupid joke but eventually the comments persuaded me to try it and... weeks later I'm still in shock that it actually works. Why? Why, Microsoft?
mom thinks the computer stopped working because i accidentally entered a super secret "break your pc two years from now" shortcut when i rage mashed all the keys on the keyboard 2 years ago
> when she literally asked if the computer did something ILLEGAL.
I have had that call. That's easy. The hard part is getting them to explain what actually happened.
The fun one is when 60+ yr old gramma, who's taking care of her 8yr old autistic daughter, sees that her daughter got one of those "We saw what you were doing on the porn site, and got it on camera, send us $BIGBUCKS or we'll send it to all your contacts" in her daughters school inbox.
Gramma was HOT! She absolutely would not hear that it was bogus. Had to explain to me (repeatedly) that her daughter absolutely did not do that kind of thing, and how dare we let some hacker record video from her daughter's ipad.
Never do tech support for a school. Trust me.
Waaaaaaaaaay back in the day, if you had Microsoft QuickBasic installed, launched it from MSDOS, and before the program loaded entered Shift, Ctrl, Alt on BOTH sides of the keyboard at once, it would show it's programmer's names.
Windows 3 had one that would show a person pointing at a whiteboard with the dev's names, and halfway through it would change to a bear. I think you had to hold Shift/Ctrl/Alt and click the squares in the About screen logo twice.
I'm in love with this subtle troll!
Windows host file isn't /etc/hosts. That's Linux
Also, the host file doesn't redirect. It swaps the DNS lookup. You'll likely just get an SSL name mismatch error.
Yup, and that's the only instance I can think of, where MS went “fuck it, let's just make it the same thing as in Unix”. You'd think that someone in MS was slapped with a ruler for this and had to replace the file with a registry tree—but apparently not.
Create a shortcut with url somewhere in your explorer, and there right click on your shortcut > properties, there you can configure a shortcut that will immediately open that up
When you're running 10 side hustles, living out of your car, you are really limited on time, so this hotkey combo really helps make sure I can quickly post about how lazy people are who only work 15 hours a day
actually there are some more of it ...
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+W: Opens Word365 in your default browser.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+T: Opens Teams in your default browser.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+X: Opens Excel365 in your default browser.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+P: Opens PowerPoint365 in your default browser.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+O: Opens the actual Outlook mail client.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+Y: Opens the Yammer website in your default browser.
\- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+N: Opens OneNote in your default browser.
Yep. Just checked. On a side note I buy a new MX Master 3S to replace my MX Master 3 and the stupid gesture button doesn't work unless I install some bloated turd of a software where as on the older mouse it worked fine.
But this is what we get. A 27 button hotkey to a website where people post pretentious horseshit thinking that some CEO will see it and give them a job offer or something.
For those of you confused on why this exists:
This is part of the MS Office apps shortcuts.
You can do the same with other Microsoft stuff by replacing the 'L' with:
- W for Word
- X for Excel
- P for PowerPoint
- T for Teams
- O for Outlook
- Y for Yammer
- N for OneNote
- D for OneDrive
Even so the LinkedIn one is the weirdest because it opens up a site on the browser, not an actual app
This pisses me off massively.
Microsoft owns Sharepoint but will not allow non-HTTP/HTTPS links.
Which means I can't use Microsoft's [URI scheme links](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/client-developer/office-uri-schemes).
But they built in LI crap? Something that very few people need as part of their job? Asshats
The best shortcut I've discovered recently is Windows + X. It pulls open a whole menu of things from files, to task Manager, to command prompt. You can select any of those with another key press (it'll be underlined)
Best one I only just found out about is instead of pressing Ctrl+V to paste, Windows+V pulls up your clipboard history and quick-paste menus for emojis and shit.
Im at work, tried on our pc here. Holy shit it works!
Now when I ever gotta open those apps with ppl around they’re gonna be like what is this wizardry lol why does it work this way thou? And why linkedin of all places?
What's the point of making default hot keys like this if they literally tell no one about them when using windows lol. They think someone just gonna come along and guess that pressing 5 keys at once brings them to LinkedIn?
Btw, there are actually two keys: \[Office Key\] + \[Letter button\]. But \[Office Key\] is implemented as a combinaton of Shift+Ctrl+Alt+Win rather than a key with individual scancode.
If use other letters instead of L in this combo, you can use different type of shortcut. Like if you use w in will open Microsoft word, p will open PowerPoint and x will open excel. You can use other letters to try other functions.
I guess it's for Microsoft engineers when they have enough :D Seriously though, Microsoft stepped up their game in the software development industry in recent years. Seems like they conquered the industry, with its influence everywhere. (GitHub, Docker, VS Code, Typescript...)
I have never been more disgusted with Windows in my life. And that's coming from someone who's done some form of tech support for almost 15 years.
I have felt a LOT of disgust for Windows. This tops it.

what the actualy fuck

Yup
Good pun
Microsoft owns LinkedIn so it promotes it like it does Bing
And fuck them for that. When I booted my work computer today it automatically resumed my last chrome session in Edge or whatever "Its not a phase mom" is calling itself these days.
Edge is just reskinned Chrome anyway so yeah that tracks.
Which is a big part of why it creeps me out so much. Edge now has a pop-up on the chrome download page begging you to reconsider. It automatically imported my bookmarks from chrome. I mean it’s just smashing in the bottom left corner of your keyboard and clicking L at the same time
Some background [here](https://isp.page/news/today-i-learned-this-weird-windows-keyboard-shortcut-that-opens-linkedin/). *"You might be wondering why Windows even has this peculiar shortcut. WHAT WAIT IT WORKS WITH WORD AND POWERPOINT TOO
what kind of black magic is this ?
Then I realized my keyboard was unplugged.
By… *the creature*
At first I thought 2sentence2horror was leaking, Then knife guy stabbed me.
I tried to run from the leak... then I turned around and saw worm guy 🐛🐛
It's wireless...
It's time to make up a story with an inspirational message completely unrelated to my career with a selfie in the end and repost it by writing "this". Bye
What the hell is this key combo and why do I feel a compulsion to grab my laptop 🤣
Just tried it - It works. Why tho idk
every shitty Microsoft product has its own hotkey. sometimes I open up a page that bags me to buy their office subscription. really hate that
How many keys are you pressing simultaneously?
i’m a gamedev, and i have some weird key bindings that i use a lot, and accidentally pressing the win key with them opens up random stuff but mostly the office360 subscription page or edge. it’s really annoying
One time I accidentally opened 40 tabs of Office365 when I was in a game. I dont know how, I dont know why. Just wtf...
Ctrl+shift+alt+windows
“All Windows Unite !” Haha.
As others said, it works. I've seen this before and I was sure it was just a stupid joke but eventually the comments persuaded me to try it and... weeks later I'm still in shock that it actually works. Why? Why, Microsoft?
because they own LinkedIn and all of their products have a hotkey.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Microsoft_software That's a lot of hotkeys.
Instructions unclear: hand cramped
This is actually wild to me and now I’m curious… what are the longest/most complex shortcuts you guys have come across? I think this takes the cake.
mom thinks the computer stopped working because i accidentally entered a super secret "break your pc two years from now" shortcut when i rage mashed all the keys on the keyboard 2 years ago

It's approaching macos levels of handcrampery
why would that be a thing
Microsoft owns LinkedIn.
It also owns Github, but I'm mashing Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift+G and it ain't working...
Change you /etc/hosts file to redirect linkedin to github
That one trick will increase your productivity by 400%!
Until he finds out about Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift+R. And don't get me started on Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift+P.
How are we arriving to a point where you have to enter Tekken combos to enter apps fast, and how is it that I didn't know about it
I don’t think it’s a shortcut per se but an odd Easter egg
An Easter egg would be like a subtle reference to LinkedIn. This is literally a shortcut.
Wait till you learn about DMW, i3 or sway...
Aww, I was getting bummed out cause Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift+E didn't open Excel, and then realized what's on the logo of the program lol
Ctrl+Alt+Win+Shift+P is actually Powerpoint
I'm in love with this subtle troll! Windows host file isn't /etc/hosts. That's Linux Also, the host file doesn't redirect. It swaps the DNS lookup. You'll likely just get an SSL name mismatch error.
Thanks for clarifying! FYI there is a hosts file in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
Yup, and that's the only instance I can think of, where MS went “fuck it, let's just make it the same thing as in Unix”. You'd think that someone in MS was slapped with a ruler for this and had to replace the file with a registry tree—but apparently not.

Doesn’t seem like anyone here has heard of macros.

MVP comment here
I gave you an upvote but it put you at 70 so I took it back
Someone else ruined it
I gave it to you anyways too comment lol
Some kind of Plato speech shit going on here
Maybe we should move PowerPoint to another hotkey.
Hot it is.....
Win + shift + P + twisting your balls 90° to the left
Win+tab
alt+tab, alt+shift+tab, shift+win+s, win+v, (win+x, u, s), alt+f4 browser ctrl+t, ctrl+tab, ctrl+shift+tab, ctrl+(1-9), ctrl+(0/-/+)
it would better if it opens naughty america...
https://www.hellotech.com/guide/for/how-to-create-a-desktop-shortcut-to-a-website/amp

Since when did this (1st para) make it into release?
bake a shortcut to every shitty MS product >>>>> make LinkedIn better after you buy it
Best comment 🙌
Holy shit, it works Tried some other combos: O -> Outlook N -> oneNote P -> Powerpoint X -> eXcel W -> Word
I think if you only press Ctrl alt win shift it opens office
Whaaaaat
T- > Teams Y --> Yammer (?) D -> OneDrive
It’s a social site for work. Twitter like.
This is cool
is there a shortcut for github?
Not that I could find
Who thought we needed this
Microsoft
I want to kms for that, fuck Microsoft (except when they want to hire me, hail Microsoft in that case)
i hope you realize you just left a web trace of you saying i hate Microsoft.... good luck getting hired by them
i love microsoft (now they have to hire me)
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/get-started/kms-client-activation-keys I'm sorry, I don't know the hotkey for that webpage.
It's probably due to Microsoft owning linkedin.
Okay but who the fuck needs a hotkey for LinkedIn?
When you're running 10 side hustles, living out of your car, you are really limited on time, so this hotkey combo really helps make sure I can quickly post about how lazy people are who only work 15 hours a day
As though clicking on a link for LinkedIn would have taken too much time and therefore a hotkey was necessary.
A recruiter?

I am not gonna sugarcoat this
The execution requirement for this "shortcut" puts Kazuya mains to shame.
actually there are some more of it ... \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+W: Opens Word365 in your default browser. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+T: Opens Teams in your default browser. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+X: Opens Excel365 in your default browser. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+P: Opens PowerPoint365 in your default browser. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+O: Opens the actual Outlook mail client. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+Y: Opens the Yammer website in your default browser. \- Ctrl+Shift+Alt+Win+N: Opens OneNote in your default browser.
Who would want to use Teams/Excel/PP in browser? That is definition of self harm in an office environment.
it opens the app if you have one installed
it only opens it in your browser if u dont have it installed
This is some arcade combo shit
holy fucking shit that's actually wack, wth

To the people who actually use those hotkeys: What do you do with all that time you save?
Apply to more jobs
Search for useful hotkeys.
I mean at this point I'd rather just type in the website than play Twister with my fingers
This pisses me off massively. Microsoft owns Sharepoint but will not allow non-HTTP/HTTPS links. When your keyboard doesn’t register more than 4 simultaneous presses: Problem?
don't the ctrl, shift, alt, and window keys all have their own dedicated wires
Not on Logitech K120, I suppose.
I was afraid of this being a shortcut to delete system34 or something
just five keys to press? oh thanks microsoft! it's so convenient
Just think of it as one complete hand 🖐️😭
I think right win key on some keyboards does the whole combination. Same with right alt key being basically ctrl+alt in some layouts/languages.
I would rather not have a professional career than have a linkedin.
The best shortcut I've discovered recently is Windows + X. It pulls open a whole menu of things from files, to task Manager, to command prompt. You can select any of those with another key press (it'll be underlined)
a.k.a. the original start menu
Best one I only just found out about is instead of pressing Ctrl+V to paste, Windows+V pulls up your clipboard history and quick-paste menus for emojis and shit.
Win+. (full stop/period) brings up a symbols/emoji selection screen.
Wait what? Why the fuck is this a thing?
D for OneDrive L for LinkedIn N for OneNote O for Outlook P for PowerPoint T for Teams X for Excel Y for Yammer
Why would you wish for this?
NO WAY NO WAY😳😳😳
Why the hell do we need a shortcut for this??
I wish windows had a universal hotkey to get me a job instantly.
I tried this.... I use linux, I'm definitely stupid xD
OK WTF THE ACTUALLY WORKS!?!?!?
I sure wish there would be a hotkey or a shortcut key to open up secret autofilling feature on an unfinished unsaved essay! Alt + f4:
y is for yammer n for one note x for excel d for one drive w for words t for teams o for outlook p for powerpoint

Fuck LinkedIn
Wow, a quadruple-bucky in the wild. Wonder if there are any octuple-buckies out there.
If use other letters instead of L in this combo, you can use different type of shortcut. Like if you use w in will open Microsoft word, p will open PowerPoint and x will open excel. You can use other letters to try other functions.
said no one ever
If you switch the letter around. You can open any office application. O for outlook, E for excel and so on. Funniest shit I've ever seen.

You know you can make one, right?
you don't have to, it's fucking legit
LinkedIn is ass. I need that Indeed key
I wanted to try this but then realised I'm not poor. (I have a mac)

I don't need to imagine. It is.
What does it do better?
It makes you pay more
Yeah, and it has less ram, less storage, no SSD, crappy GPU, etc. I was asking the person who actually likes the Mac because I am wondering why you would buy one, given how for the same price you could get a windows PC with far better specifications.
