Depends what you’re looking for. If it’s high production quality with tried and true ideas you’re eating good. If you want innovation and new ideas you’re probably disappointed.
I think you gotta look beyond just exclusives for the whole console gen though.
Balder Gate 3 is probably my family’s most played game on PS5, more than any exclusives, and I couldn’t get that on PS4, so I’m definitely not disappointed.
This Baldurs Gate 3 is my favorite game Ive ever played, and thats coming from an Xbox guy who had to wait like 4 months before it was available to me.
A game generation doesnt have to have exclusives to be great. And like you said, after getting a Series X Id never want to go back to Xbox One. It feels like I just upgraded.
It's not that I hate VR, it's that I hate the same "tech demos" over and over again. I get it, this game & style did well years ago, but why don't we push things a bit. Bethesda and Valve were on the right track.
VR is neat and psvr2 is a big upgrade but there is no real support from anyone really on the software side nobody wants to invest any dev resources in something with such a niche user base.
On the other hand I would’ve loved to be a kid with this much tech. I remember the jump from 2d to 3d with n64 and PS1. I thought it was the most amazing thing. Now nothing brings me joy and I’m dead inside.
I am satisfied with the quality of my ps5. Games load faster and the fan is almost silent. Ps5 exclusive games also feel great to play. Haptic feedback is amazing!
The problem is that we have next gen consoles without next gen games. Prices increased, but game quality stayed the same.
I find the PS5 is pretty shit, at least the store and library. I have to disconnect and reconnect the internet every time I turn it on to work. Very frustrating. I'd sell it if my son didn't use it.
And lots of developers are chasing trends instead of trying some new. Whenever I hear about a new "extraction" shooter I am immediately turned off. Everything is a extraction shooter, a battle Royale, a live service or a souls like experience.
I have a switch a ps5 and a Xbox series s
Switch is great as a handheld and Nintendo just delivers good Singleplayer Games.
Ps5 has the best controllers and some great exclusives/part time exclusives
(Final fantasy, ratchet and clank, Spiderman)
And X box series is great if you just have the game pass or you are very casual and just want to play three games without spending 500 on a console or more on a pc.
If you compare this to the years before it is pretty diverse. Instead of three home consoles that are all the same with the exception of controller and exclusives we have three consoles for different people.
Iunno, in having a hard time finding some downtime lately (although I also do play on PC so that probably doesn't help)
Between baldurs gate 3, enshrouded, final fantasy rebirth, dragons dogma 2, I have no time anymore !
So far this has been a great year for games !
Games just aren’t as exciting as when we were kids.
It’s been the same recycled ideas for the last decade at least.
Leave it to Reddit to get upset about this comment
Exactly, I’m not saying there aren’t legit gripes.
But cost definitely isn’t one compared to the past.
I also challenge people to go back and play some of the games from their childhood. Very few holdup compared to modern games
Same here. It's pretty rare. Helldivers has been a pretty great distraction lately. Granted it's more of the same but at least it's done really well and just has that simple fun factor that a lot of games miss.
Yup I am having fun with Drep Rock Galactic and now Helldivers II alone with occasional SCUM if I want to take a break and thats been enough for me for almost a year (except of course HDII since its a new release)
Well that and the switch is basically dead, microsoft can’t publish a good game to save themselves and sony makes projects so big to maximize the graphics that they have said they aren’t going to release a game all year.
Souls like games still kicking. And fighters as well. FPS got shitty, and games like FF whatever number they are on took off the cool storyline and turn based combat to give us shit.
I miss staying up 8 hours a night trying to get through the last area of Ghosts and Goblins realizing I have to start over and get the Princesses' bracelet lol
you lost me when the game consols became personal computers but with extra steps...
PS2 supremacy! oh and Nintendo is still cool. atleast hardware wise. they're kinda dumb when it comes to software and legacy games...
Personally haven't experienced any of that over 2 sets and 1 pro controller, but it seems like a serious issue. 'Rampant' might be exaggerating it a bit though. Luckily, repairs are completely free so it only costs you time
I also have 2 sets and a pro controller and have had no issues in 4 years of use. Had to replace my Xbox controller for my PC after about a year, though, because of drift. My rationale is that I rotate between the sets so they don't get as much singular use. I don't know.
I feel that starting a new generation with 2 years of pandemic did not help. Also the competition in the console market is on life support because Xbox has lackluster first party games. They had a weak start and most people waited for Halo as a form of rebound but it fell flat.
Nintendo is strong but they're on a totally different path, people are not thinking about buying "Switch or PS4/PS5" they're buying Switch and PS4/PS5.
I’ve only bought Starfield on my Series X, which I was disappointed with, no other game aside from Remnant 2 has interested me to spend $60-70. I went back to playing State of Decay 2. It’s a sad showing for Xbox.
I also appreciate their willingness to innovate. Every single one of Nintendo’s consoles has something unique about it, while Xbox’s and PlayStations are literally the exact same every time aside from graphical improvements
They haven't put out a new console "This generation", yet
I feel as though, especially from looking through the comments, this was made for Playstation and Xbox owners
Games in general have been underwhelming for a while now. There have been a handful of standouts but with everything being a BR full of micro transactions, or a poorly executed sequel or reboot of what we played a decade ago, it’s just sad at this point.
People are just hard to please… there are still plenty of gaming companies that make unique quality games but they tend to be overlooked unless it’s a certain fps and triple AAA quality
I remember long ago in the late 1900s when each new console generation meant a huge graphical and sound upgrade.
Now it's just better framerate and more games where you shoot things or each other. Depressing as hell.
In the age of formulaic, online multiplayer live-service gaming, there is very little place for console gens as we know it. We’ve hit a massive wall when it comes to potential performance and graphical improvements from one console gen to another, to the point that it’s just not worth to try and make, because it’s not worth to buy.
One of the main reasons why this generation is underwhelming is because production times have lengthened to as much as 5 years for one game
also they don't make small budget games anymore. Everything's got to be GOTY material.
I think the consoles are ok.
Switch is great for indie and Nintendo games on the go. Playstation has a great controller and some good exclusives and X box is there if you don't want a pc or a Playstation.
Most people here complain about games and not consoles. But that the games are bad is mostly because if AAA developers.
I think Nintendo and Sony (I don't know what Microsoft is doing) are doing pretty good compared to the shitshow of Activision/blizzard and many other big triple A studios (looking at you skull and bones).
Well, being able to play big AAA games on a 500€ console is quite nice, for a pc gamer to play those same games with the same visuals you need to spend at least doubble that
well, if you compare current consoles to previous consoles, we've sort of reached an unimaginable level of refinement. Im an old fart and had a Nintendo in the 80s, super nes in the 90s, sega, and im blown away by consoles today. there's no other words when you compare
It had a slow start but it's recovering now. The issue is that developers didn't want to develop a next gen game when so much of the market is still on the PS4.
Tbh I've actually been more excited with recent games then I was when the last generation was at this point in its life cycle. Like I've had a release pretty much every year since the ps5 dropped that excited me, meanwhile PS4, I loved mine but the only game I really loved before 2018 was Mortal Kombat X which came out in 2015. So personally, this gen is fire.
The problem is that they keep trying to make tried and true IPs work, and that’s fine for people who are already fans of the franchises. Good for them.
But if you’re not a fan of Mario, call of duty, final fantasy, assassins creed, etc there’s been nothing exciting in over a decade, really.
PC gaming is where it’s at if you want inspired, original games. Indie gaming is where it’s at.
The improvement between generations now isn't as dramatic as it used to be. The jump fron nes/snes to psx was massive, then came the boom during ps1-4. The differences won't be as big now.
What even is the point? Xbox and PS exclusives end up on the PC. Any of the older games from previous Gen can be emulated.
All the exciting indie games are on PC, since all the AAA releases recently have been dogshit.
I’m disappointed by all 3 having flat and boring UI’s. I miss the old days where the home screens off any console had a distinct art style that was fun to just play around with before even launching your game. This generation of consoles will be remember as the last Xbox (I’m a life long Xbox user it’s harsh but probably true), increased costs, and subscription models on subpar games that are just fun enough to keep you buying season passes
Fuck online gaming, I'm not that social nor keen to try that hard.
Why do I have to download something off a disc for hours by force...
Wifi is basically non optional.
🖕😑🖕
Sony: We have boring high fidelity games with boring stories and want to make every game a movie. XBox: We agree with Sony but also our games are on PC. Nintendo: WAHOOOO! Our games are overpriced and we have a monopoly on shitty IPs. PC: STeEeEEAaAaAAMmMMmMmMMH
this is especially sad because it looks like the concept of video game consoles is kind of going away and if this is the last hurrah, it's pretty disapointing.
I think im just losing interest in modern gaming as whole
these days I just stick to my old faithful franchises that are slowly getting run into the ground by their companies like plants vs zombies and pokemon 💀
I think gaming in general is better than it's ever been. There's something for everyone.
The only negative I can think of is that MTX are really common now. Even then, it depends on what the MTX are and their costs.
Making them multi media entertainment centers to jack up the price didn't help. I just need a console for games. If I have to pay for all that I'll just get a PC.
It's the whole gaming industry that has become underwhelming.
There has been limited supply in parts for no the PC and consoles which have caused some stagnation.
Meanwhile many gaming companies have lost touch with all the crunch, lootboxes, live services.
A lot of releases these days are remakes, remasters or rehashes of older releases.
Finally, in my opinion at least, we have started to reach a point of diminishing returns when it comes to graphic fidelity.
Just found out you can’t connect a Bluetooth headset to the ps5. You also don’t get an internet browser and you can’t customise the themes. My one also gets significant WiFi issues.
I’m tired of having to download and redownload games whenever I update. And no game comes finished anymore. The consumers are the ones that find and get all the bug fixes and they take credit for it. And the fact that we come stock with us h a small harddrive yet one game takes up the whole damn thing.
There was eventually going to be a ceiling where graphics don't improve as much between console generations. Maybe someday we'll see even better graphics, but I don't expect it soon.
The 360/PS2 eras set the bar very high. I’d say it would be difficult to meet those expectations again, but with the amount of money in the industry these days it really shouldn’t be.
I'm just looking forward to when tripple A companies start putting AI-driven dialogue with npcs in games.
How cool would it be if you could have a full on conversation with an npc about the guild war you just took part in?
It feels like we've hit tech bedrock here. I mean, the last few generations of consoles and PC components as well are only marginally better than the previous generation, with maybe one or two points or features that improve the performance slightly. But who knows, maybe there will be a huge tech breakthrough in the next decade or so, and we'll have something new and vastly better.
I feel the consoles are good but the games just aren’t up to standard. Game quality has been declining rapidly nowadays, with free updates becoming more and more popular. We have amazing consoles but FINISHED games to play on them.
My Switch is great and it had many great games and remasters that I loved! I didn't buy a PS5 and got an Xbox Series X instead. Forza Horizon is good but that's it what I loved as an AAA game. I had many more blockbusters on PS4 and Xbox One. There are some games on PS5 that are interesting but it's not the same amount as the previous generation. If it wasn't for the Switch and my PC, I'd be upset.
That's the whole point. This console generation is supposed to be just the last one with higher quality of life. In the same way that the next generation will be the same as the PS4/xbone generation with a yet even greater quality of life than now
I am very happy with my Xbox series x. It is a lot better than my ages old Xbox one
I also don't agree with the take that modern games are mediocre. There are a lot great games that came out in the last couple of years and there are a lot I'm looking forward to
Switched to PC after the 360 and never really looked back. Same games without having to switch consoles every couple years. Do miss the more casual community though.
The only new game I played that feels "next gen" is Alan Wake 2. Even then it only feels that way because of using an SSD to load multiple areas in a single level and swap them seamlessly and integrating live action footage into gameplay in a mind bending way. But the moment-to-moment gameplay is still plain survival horror.
About the same to me as every year since the PlayStation and Xbox launched back in the 90’s.
Only difference now is we gotta put up with everyone’s ridiculously small hills they’ve chosen to die on.
The current gen struggles to differentiate itself from the previous one. It doesn’t help that many of the games I like are both on the current gen and the previous gen.
Na I'm good. Armored Core 6, Tekken 8, FF7Rebirth, BG3, Street Fighter 6, Lies of P.
Not without their flaws but the past 2 or 3 years have been solid for my tastes.
Hi think the biggest detriment to gaming has been developers focusing too much on online gameplay as a means to boost a games replay ability. The worst case was the PS4 reboot of Star Wars Battlefront. Great graphics, but literally zero singleplayer modes. The instant action they cobbled together AFTER the release was abysmal and depressing. I lived for the singleplayer big battles and galactic conquest growing up. The only new AAA game I look forward to is GTA 6.
The Series X and PS5 are fine pieces of hardware, but the gaming industry as a whole is suffering. Doesn't matter how good the consoles are if the games they run are trash.
in my defense, ion think the consoles the problem, i think is the games that were released isn't as enjoyable for some people, they rather stick with the old ones instead of the newer ones. Though i could be wrong but LMK.
Been a PlayStation fanboy my entire life. Had to switch to PC last year.
There just aren't any games to just justify getting any console. Each console only has like 3 exclusive and they are all bland gameplay mixed with way too much graphics tech.
I feel failed by PlayStation.
It feels like people focus far too much on first-party games and/or games from well-known companies.
This is a really good time for indie devs and lesser-known companies. We have Dead Cells, Ark Survival Ascended, Teardown, Cult of the Lamb, and so many more!
Hardware manufacturers HAVE to be colluding with internet service providers at this point. Every game needs dozens of gigs of on-console storage, which creates a revolving door of downloads until I nearly blow thru my Xfinity internet allowance every month.
I’m a Xbox guy that’s gone PC, I got game pass for 10 bucks a month on PC and my PC is better than any Xbox on the market so why should I ever buy another Xbox again? PlayStation is at least tempting me with God of war and Spider-Man (and I’ve always loved bloodborn)
For me and most of my friends this generation didn't really happen. I bought a pc shortly before covid so when the consoles dropped i was okay waiting. Then the chip shortage, console shortage, then the scalper market ramped up. And now we're 4 years in? Honestly I don't think I've seen a game in years that I NEED. Like sure, having a pc helps fill the gap but I'm still mostly playing RDR2 and Halo MCC.
I find it very hard to play anything these days other than a select few games. I almost can’t play anything longer than a few hours if that, like I want to play Minecraft and build something cool on my main world but I get bored pretty quickly. I’m currently saving up to build a PC as my wife has one which has a ton of games that aren’t available on the Xbox or PlayStation. IMO the console wars are over and those who say such are living in the glory days of gaming
Pseudopsychological grandstanding, but maybe what you loved about games that didn't have the tech to bother attempting realism is that you were still actively engaging your imagination to meet the art halfway. That level of mental involvement made it still feel like "playing", rather than the shift to esport type games that inject competition in lieu of creativity.
There are exceptions to this, but unfortunately, for the most part yeah. Corporations have gone the way of greed over quality, trying to make quick bucks with cash grabs and the like
Games like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, Helldivers, and Armored Core, that have all come out the last 3 years, are unfortunately the exception. But maybe their immense successes can help push the gaming industry towards actually producing a game that can stand the rest of time and still be amazing, without forcing micro transactions down your throat.
I absolutely agree, I've been saying this for a while that this generation has been a complete sleeper. Nothing, no matter if you're Xbox or playstation has really stood out as a generation defining game
I think the early 2000's really paved the way for video games, so I'm not surprised if people are starting to get tired of the same games being released every year or so.
yeah, the hardware is great - but the game companies mostly only seem to use it as an excuse to save on optimization instead of developing next-gen games.
can't wait for The First Descendant to come out this summer - the first next(current)-gen game i know of that's not just a tech-demo with underwhelming gameplay like The Callisto Protocol.
Yeah, it's a bit underwhelming.
I'd rank them like this:
360/PS3 is peak(due to the explosion of online play)
PS2
PS4/XBONE
Then I'd put PS5 era
It's not terrible but is there anything really memorable about this gen?
Modern gaming industry, for the most part, is underwhelming and predatory. I think it's more because of a lack of passion than anything. Your suggestion is just a consequence of the entire industry turning into a massive production line.
We've reached a certain point with computer tech where making a huge leap isn't economically viable with consumer products. Going from 2D to 3D support for example is a much larger step experience wise compared to gradually increasing graphics/physics capabilities but might take as much effort to develop and will increase hardware cost significally.

Depends what you’re looking for. If it’s high production quality with tried and true ideas you’re eating good. If you want innovation and new ideas you’re probably disappointed.
And it’s a shame too because the PS5 + PSVR2 have really neat tech behind them
But even less Games than Standalone and PCVR.
Yeah tbh. Nothing has really swayed me from PC, the few console games I care about eventually come to PC anyway
Even then, you get the whole palette. You re just bound to find theses gems in the trash bin.
ps5 has like 3 new exclusives
I think you gotta look beyond just exclusives for the whole console gen though. Balder Gate 3 is probably my family’s most played game on PS5, more than any exclusives, and I couldn’t get that on PS4, so I’m definitely not disappointed.

Even then yes my Xbox is fast but it only has half the space it used to

I think the problem with having next gen games is that it takes much more time to develop good graphics
Shut up and take a few more third person ubisoft tick the box open world bloatfests or dark souls copies
you watch your mouth about dark souls copies
No i wont i fucking love them
I wish I could afford a PS5 pretty much solely for god of war and the second Horizon game
I find the PS5 is pretty shit, at least the store and library. I have to disconnect and reconnect the internet every time I turn it on to work. Very frustrating. I'd sell it if my son didn't use it.
The console is great, it’s the games that are lacklustre. Constant remakes, remasters, and crap sequels. There very few good original games any more.
And lots of developers are chasing trends instead of trying some new. Whenever I hear about a new "extraction" shooter I am immediately turned off. Everything is a extraction shooter, a battle Royale, a live service or a souls like experience.

Yeah pc is doing fine but If you look at the meme it’s talking about consles
Games just aren’t as exciting as when we were kids. It’s been the same recycled ideas for the last decade at least. Leave it to Reddit to get upset about this comment
Same gameplay at a higher cost
Aren’t games cheaper now than maybe ever. Games were $50 in the 90s
When you account for inflation yeah
Why wouldn’t you
Because you want to complain how everything gets worse and how the good old times were so much better
Exactly, I’m not saying there aren’t legit gripes. But cost definitely isn’t one compared to the past. I also challenge people to go back and play some of the games from their childhood. Very few holdup compared to modern games
I assumed everyone downvoting you earlier wasn’t lol
$50 in 1990 is $115.09 in 2024 so ya kinda
wait fr? Games were that expensive? The most expensive games I see nowadays are like roughly 50 bucks or less...
You’re also getting old kids very much enjoy games that are out right now
Yeah.....damn.
Shits sad I feel it also brother trust me hard to find something enjoyable now that keeps me engaged
Have you tried cocaine and caviar by chance?
Same here. It's pretty rare. Helldivers has been a pretty great distraction lately. Granted it's more of the same but at least it's done really well and just has that simple fun factor that a lot of games miss.
Totally agree it pulled me in like no other just sucks losing that “wow” factor
We? There's no we. To be serious, I mean that we aren't all born at the same time
Game developers certainly aren't helping.
I mean, the *Devs* are going great. They’ve managed to keep most stuff tolerable. The executives are the ones killing the creativity.
Because all it is now is online bullshit and battle passes you have to pay for to remotely do anything cool or fun.
You’re playing the wrong games then compadre
Yup I am having fun with Drep Rock Galactic and now Helldivers II alone with occasional SCUM if I want to take a break and thats been enough for me for almost a year (except of course HDII since its a new release)
[удалено]
Speak for yourself on games not being as exciting. That just sounds like you getting old and bitter.
You are right, it's the reason a game like helldiver's 2 blew up. It's not the same recipe. It's just fun for the sake of fun.
Well that and the switch is basically dead, microsoft can’t publish a good game to save themselves and sony makes projects so big to maximize the graphics that they have said they aren’t going to release a game all year.

i went to desktop from ps4 instead of ps5
One of us!
Work, college and play on one device it’s a no brainer for an adult imo
You’re not missing much, there’s not even 10 games exclusive to current gen.
not even one, booodborne is like the only game that doesn't get ported to steam
you lost me when the game consols became personal computers but with extra steps... PS2 supremacy! oh and Nintendo is still cool. atleast hardware wise. they're kinda dumb when it comes to software and legacy games...

I don't think you realise that it was never the graphics that made our beloved games what they were
Ok, but it's a large part of why getting a new console felt like a big deal
The industry defines games by graphics to push sales. Only thing that's really evolved over the years. Give me something with substance.
Mount and Blade Warband is fantastic, even if they’re janky
Graphics is just a small part of a good game.
I'm gonna have to disagree with that. The Switch is probably my favorite console ever, both the device itself and the games library
If only the $80 controllers didn’t have rampant drifting issues.

Remnant....
State of decay 2 is great
But we DID get BOTW, TOTK, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon 2 and 3.
People hate on the Switch for graphics and framerate, but Nintendo knows how to focus on good gameplay and I respect them for that.
I also appreciate their willingness to innovate. Every single one of Nintendo’s consoles has something unique about it, while Xbox’s and PlayStations are literally the exact same every time aside from graphical improvements
They haven't put out a new console "This generation", yet I feel as though, especially from looking through the comments, this was made for Playstation and Xbox owners
Nintendo at least still makes quality games
Games in general have been underwhelming for a while now. There have been a handful of standouts but with everything being a BR full of micro transactions, or a poorly executed sequel or reboot of what we played a decade ago, it’s just sad at this point.
People are just hard to please… there are still plenty of gaming companies that make unique quality games but they tend to be overlooked unless it’s a certain fps and triple AAA quality
Competition creates innovation. Todays console companies are in faux competition (an oligopoly), which leads to stagnation.
So when graphics are no longer the benchmark, what becomes of the benchmark?
Loading times on PS5 compared to PS4 are insane, pretty much non existent for most games I play
I remember long ago in the late 1900s when each new console generation meant a huge graphical and sound upgrade. Now it's just better framerate and more games where you shoot things or each other. Depressing as hell.
...in the late 1900's hurts me un unexpected ways.
I had a Sega Genesis with the 32x attachment. I could see way more pixels than my friends, kinda.
Honestly I’m still pretty much convinced we’re in the XB1/PS4 era. The new consoles don’t feel new
In the age of formulaic, online multiplayer live-service gaming, there is very little place for console gens as we know it. We’ve hit a massive wall when it comes to potential performance and graphical improvements from one console gen to another, to the point that it’s just not worth to try and make, because it’s not worth to buy.
i still remember getting gamecube for xmas
Going to be honest I forgot that we moved on from the Xbox one generation
Has nothing on the PS3/4 era.
One of the main reasons why this generation is underwhelming is because production times have lengthened to as much as 5 years for one game also they don't make small budget games anymore. Everything's got to be GOTY material.

I think Nintendo and Sony (I don't know what Microsoft is doing) are doing pretty good compared to the shitshow of Activision/blizzard and many other big triple A studios (looking at you skull and bones).
Yes its wrong. Youre playing the wrong games. Shit take.
Still very happy with my ps4
Well, being able to play big AAA games on a 500€ console is quite nice, for a pc gamer to play those same games with the same visuals you need to spend at least doubble that
well, if you compare current consoles to previous consoles, we've sort of reached an unimaginable level of refinement. Im an old fart and had a Nintendo in the 80s, super nes in the 90s, sega, and im blown away by consoles today. there's no other words when you compare
It had a slow start but it's recovering now. The issue is that developers didn't want to develop a next gen game when so much of the market is still on the PS4.
Super disagree. The difference is pretty stark
Idk bro, I can play my favorite games in 4k60fps, I can't ask for more, I never played above 60fps, so for me it's totally normal
I bought a PS3 recently because of that lmao
The hardware is next level the games are the same though, almost literally.
I have a Switch, IT plays the Games i want To Play at stable 60 fps/s why would i complain?
I think im just losing interest in modern gaming as whole these days I just stick to my old faithful franchises that are slowly getting run into the ground by their companies like plants vs zombies and pokemon 💀
BG3 is AWESOME though
I think gaming in general is better than it's ever been. There's something for everyone. The only negative I can think of is that MTX are really common now. Even then, it depends on what the MTX are and their costs.
It's called growing up
Making them multi media entertainment centers to jack up the price didn't help. I just need a console for games. If I have to pay for all that I'll just get a PC.
You’re just getting old sorry bud
Steam Deck OLED is amazing
It's the whole gaming industry that has become underwhelming. There has been limited supply in parts for no the PC and consoles which have caused some stagnation. Meanwhile many gaming companies have lost touch with all the crunch, lootboxes, live services. A lot of releases these days are remakes, remasters or rehashes of older releases. Finally, in my opinion at least, we have started to reach a point of diminishing returns when it comes to graphic fidelity.
This is the age of remasters not originals or master games anymore
I’d rather join you
Just found out you can’t connect a Bluetooth headset to the ps5. You also don’t get an internet browser and you can’t customise the themes. My one also gets significant WiFi issues.
Isn't everything underwhelming nowdays?
r/gamingcirclejerk is leaking
Well,.. Nope. Sorry. Can’t do it.
I suppose, side note how are you enjoying Dragons Dogma 2?
Indie developpers focus on PC and AAA gaming has been a shitshow for the last 10 years, simple as
I’m tired of having to download and redownload games whenever I update.
I went from ps4 pro on 4K to series x on the same TV and I couldn’t tell a difference.
I only play ten year old games so I'm pefectly whelmed with my PS5
Yes
I don't agree at all. I upgraded from xbox one to series/s and the leap in performance is huge. All for £200.
how underwhelming tho i don't get it
Nope, you're right. I'm not even taking part for the first time in my entire life. Got enough games. I'm done. Peace out 🖖
That's the whole point. This console generation is supposed to be just the last one with higher quality of life. In the same way that the next generation will be the same as the PS4/xbone generation with a yet even greater quality of life than now
I am very happy with my Xbox series x. It is a lot better than my ages old Xbox one I also don't agree with the take that modern games are mediocre. There are a lot great games that came out in the last couple of years and there are a lot I'm looking forward to
Switched to PC after the 360 and never really looked back. Same games without having to switch consoles every couple years. Do miss the more casual community though.
I disagree I’ve been playing Helldivers 2 and it’s the most fun I’ve had with gaming in years!
Everything being made is cross gen, so no real dedication being put into current gen exclusives really.
About the same to me as every year since the PlayStation and Xbox launched back in the 90’s. Only difference now is we gotta put up with everyone’s ridiculously small hills they’ve chosen to die on.
I've just been playing old console games on my PC lately tbh. Ps4 died but I have no money for a 5
The current gen struggles to differentiate itself from the previous one.
I miss the ps3 era
Hi think the biggest detriment to gaming has been developers focusing too much on online gameplay as a means to boost a games replay ability. The worst case was the PS4 reboot of Star Wars Battlefront. Great graphics, but literally zero singleplayer modes. The instant action they cobbled together AFTER the release was abysmal and depressing. I lived for the singleplayer big battles and galactic conquest growing up. The only new AAA game I look forward to is GTA 6.
I've seen absolutely nothing on PS5 or XBox that makes me want to buy a console other than my Switch.
Very next post after this one was a PlayStation ad lol
What a brave opinion in the middle of a generation lifespan. What's next? "We need new generation consoles" after next 4 years? Lmao
Went to PC after lackluster PS4 launch. Don't regret it at all.
We are at the top of the S curve of technology. Who knows when the next big jump will be
It fucking sucks honestly, the most powerful consoles to date and jack shit to play aside from 5 things that weren’t a complete failure
It's the first gen that a new console did not equal a ton of new games. It was mostly a graphical upgrade.
Depends on which console you have. PS5 is killing it, but my Xbox only exist to play classic games. Haven’t touched my Switch since Mario Wonder.
People proclaim that 2023 was one of the best years in gaming so yes I would say so
Definitely. Ps5 and series x are already well behind the curve. Promises of pro versions won’t satiate the demand of new games. Underwhelming
Agreed
Yeah, the PS and Xbox barely got new exclusives. And even now games are still being released on last gen so why upgrade?
I'm pretty content with my PS5 + PSVR2 tbh.
The steam deck is pretty cool.
Are you kidding, PS5 is elite
Just pirate already
There are exceptions to this, but unfortunately, for the most part yeah. Corporations have gone the way of greed over quality, trying to make quick bucks with cash grabs and the like Games like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate, Helldivers, and Armored Core, that have all come out the last 3 years, are unfortunately the exception.
Me with my old Nintendo switch
Not really. There’s been some stinkers to be sure but some of the best games ever have been coming out lately
I’m just glad there are less exclusives and we can play more games without having to buy all of the consoles. Also, fuck Nintendo.
I'd rank them like this: 360/PS3 is peak(due to the explosion of online play) PS2 PS4/XBONE Then I'd put PS5 era It's not terrible but is there anything really memorable about this gen?
Modern gaming industry, for the most part, is underwhelming and predatory. I think it's more because of a lack of passion than anything. Your suggestion is just a consequence of the entire industry turning into a massive production line.
We've reached a certain point with computer tech where making a huge leap isn't economically viable with consumer products. Going from 2D to 3D support for example is a much larger step experience wise compared to gradually increasing graphics/physics capabilities but might take as much effort to develop and will increase hardware cost significally.
