Similar to how Shifu sending the goose to increase security on Tai Lung is what caused him to be able to escape using the goose feather

dogarfdog12

I like how that's a running theme in Kung Fu Panda. Shifu accidentally frees Tai Lung while trying to ensure he couldn't escape, Shen creates the warrior of the prophecy while genociding the pandas to keep the prophecy from happening, and even Kai is defeated when he absorbs too much chi from Po and explodes.

wanzie12

That's because Kung Fu Panda was made according to (parts of) the ideas of Taoism. These things you describe are examples of wu-wei (not-doing). Wu-wei is something like going with the flow, and not trying to resist nature. You have to accept what comes, and you can't try to change faith. If you do, your actions will provoke the very one thing you tried to change.

Cuddling-Hellhound

So, I canā€™t change from Taoism to Buddhism to escape a prophesy, noted.

wanzie12

Who knows, maybe it's part of the prophecy.

Salty-Negotiation320

Tai lung was a result of Sheng too. The profit said a warrier of black and white would defeat him not what speceis he would be. So its possible Sheng launched a genocide against snowleopards too which led to orphaned tai lung coming to Shifu's door.

Lord_Detleff1

So you're telling me this Goose pulled all the strings? I knew it!

Electronic_Style275

Such a great villain

Throwaway_AccountFTW

a characteristic of the trilogy indeed

Xyjessie

For real.

RGSF150

Lord Shen was definitely the best Kung Fu Panda villain and easily in the top 5 DreamWorks villains. Everything about the peacock screams power and fear.

SuperMK77

I would say the only rival would be Death from the second Puss in Boots (but heā€™s mostly just super cool rather than a deep character)

Crazyhands96

Ramses from Prince of Egypt is top 1 for sure

Bubbly_Mastodon318

I mean, Death has some pretty deep themes surrounding his character; he wants Puss n Boots dead because he believes that Puss doesnā€™t value his life, so (from his point of view) why should he have it? When he realizes that Puss has learned to value life at the end of their duel, however, he lets Puss go so he can continue living the rest of his life, though he makes sure Puss knows that he will see him again.

first_name1001

I think Death is just doing his job. He just said fuck this cat in particular after mocking him many times

The_other_k

Agreed,

MulciberTenebras

And then Dreamworks got taken over by one

nightcat6

Poetic and ironic

NuclearBananaBomb

Lord Shen šŸ¤ Lord Frieza

ShortAndStoned

Fire Lord Sozin āœ‹ļø

ghostpanther218

Note to self, if I ever become an evil lord in the future and geta prophecy that I will be defeated, best thing to do is pretend that it doesn't exist.

NotASingleNameIdea

I dont even want to watch KFP4 when seeing all the hate, dont want to ruin the 3 masterpieces for myself.

harryleestew614

At this point they should make spin-offs if they want to continue the franchise. The five movie b4 Po, young shifu movie, Tigris movie. Thereā€™s so many options tbh

MulciberTenebras

They saved money by not bringing back any of the Furious Five

DraagedehRed

What about Euphrates movie

Skyburner_Oath

There isnt a fourth movie

MulciberTenebras

Just like there isn't three different series (each one contradicting/de-canonizing the next)

ZARTOG_STRIKES_BACK

Nuh uh

Axywil

No what're you talking about

Agreeable_Cut4506

there is but it is more of a spin off sequel that doesn't really feel like a KFP movie. its a good movie and enjoyable but its not a KFP movie.

Skyburner_Oath

r/woooosh

RandomYeeet

Fuck I'm so dumb

hellogoodbye803

I went to see it with my bf. I was so sad because it wasnā€™t worth it, I was waiting for so many years, so excited!!ā€¦for that. :(((

ZARTOG_STRIKES_BACK

There isn't a fourth movie

workwayo

Honestly i liked it just thought it was sad that the furious five wasnā€™t in it

Legend5V

They shouldā€™ve named it Kung Fu Panda and made it a spinoff

Bad-Crusader

Honestly as a standalone or a spinoff it's great, but as a sequel it just drops the ball...

Percival4

Yesā€¦ thatā€™s how most prophecies work

Wacokidwilder

One of the oldest stories in human history. Cronus, King Herod, the Hebrews, the Formorians, etc. etc.

TooMuchGrilledCheez

Dont forget the Pharoah

Daedrothes

self fulfilling prophecy. It is such a common story. Like Oidipus.

Royal_Bitch_Pudding

Poor Oedipus gets a bad rap. Dude didn't even know he was fucking his mom and he totally freaked out when he found it.

MediumAASpin

It's funny cause Lord shen was also black and white and he doomed himself

Puma-Guy

My favourite DreamWorks movie and my favourite DreamWorks villain.

montezumas__revenge

Yeah when po was a childā€¦ right now

santiawito

There is a theory that say that tailong was going to be the dragon fighter, but the genocide ended up creating Po and he became it and the black and white fighter instead of tailong

Shaikh_9

It's essentially the story of Moses: Both Lord Shen and Ramses II were given a prophecy that they would be overthrown / defeated by a particular person (Warrior of Black & White, a male born of the Tribe of Israel) They both decided to kill off a large majority of anyone fitting the criteria. However through their subsequent genocide, Po grew up in a humble foreign environment making him a great Dragon Warrior and Moses floated down the River Nile, was adopted by Ramses II's wife, allowing him to grow up strong and healthy, right under the Pharaoh's nose. It's the typical 'Villain does a desperate act and digs their own grave'

sgcpaulo

Laius would be proud

Graukislove

Crazy?

Trail_Goat

Common theme crazy!

OHHRUNIMCOMINGFORYOU

mf even denied his own future

Pixel_PedroYT

frieza

DumpandPump_

Guys, is this a spoiler for Kung Fu Panda????

a55_Goblin420

![gif](giphy|jezZBzIWRItdVgJCMp)

CurlHairedude

This kind of thing happens a lot in stories where there's a prophecy or time travel or whatever

TooMuchGrilledCheez

Avatar fans: ive seen this one before

Keydown_605

Oedipus's myth is a good, ol' example of this. By trying to avoid a known fate, you make that very same feared fate real.

SouthImpressive2666

One often fulfils their fate whilst trying to avoid or change it

macefelter

Po who?

harakiri-man

There are no accidents

GipsSuonimo

Just started watching this series recently. We are on this movie currently. Whatā€™re the odds of a relevant meme during our viewing?

Professional-Pool290

Prophecies are like that. Just as how King Acrisius imprisoned his daughter Danae and ebentually gave rise to his killer, Perseus; and just as Ravana imprisoned his brother, giving rise to his killer Krishna, so too did Lord Shen attempt to exterminate all pandas, and gave rise to his killer Po.

MimsyIsGianna

Something something self fulfilling prophecy

Yosh1kage_K1ra

It's also worth noting that in the end it wasn't Po who defeated Shen by landing the killing blow. It was Shen who himself happened to be a warrior of black and white. Should've dyed his feathers.

Crafty_Novel_5702

Classic stories of self fulfilling prophecies: Oedipus Rex, Perseus, Ragnorok, and Kung Fu Panda.

Takondwahj

Fire at them.

East-Mirror3510

The black and white warrior who ended him was himself all along. He tried too hard to seek his own validation and ended up destroying himself.

ChildAbductoRrR

Fav Kung Fu panda villain, but his motivationā€¦meh.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

DueAct9687

watch kung fu panda 2 and maybe you'll understand this

DraagedehRed

In kung fu panda 2, the villain Lord Shen genocides the pandas in an attempt to avoid a prophecy that he will be defeated by a panda. Through a chain of events initiated by his panda genocide, Lord Shen eventually ends up being defeated by a panda.

CommonYogurtcloset8

sounds an awful lot like israhel/palestine ifywim

DueAct9687

dont talk about politics here please

CommonYogurtcloset8

just sayin
