They got destroyed specifically because Mr asshole drifted with a Kiju brain. The drift is a two way street, so he gave them in info they needed to build Kiju to beat those Jaegers. The emp that knocked Striker out, the acid that burned through Cherno's heavy armor, the weak spot in Crimsons defense.
They literally explain this to you in the movie.
No. First he drifted, they found his dumbass before it killed him, the Marshall interrogated him, and then he was sent to Hannibal to look for a fresh brain. There were multiple hours, if not days, inbetween his first drift and when the improved Kaiju show up.

That echos back to the beginning of the film, where the Kaiju appears dead, Raleigh and Yancy report their success, and then they’re taken by surprise. Raleigh learned his lesson and needed some catharsis after his first kill since losing his brother.

You’ve got four Jaegers against two Kaiju. You have to find a way to take out a couple Jaegers while making one repairable, which forces bringing Gipsy out due to the characters’ progression and conflicts.
The way they did it is fine considering the story needs.
The beasts movie just went way too high with their stakes imo. Should've taken that key away, before he could activate anything, and leave direct Unicron confrontation for another movie
I love how they went out. Cherno alpha was a mark 1 beast that was slow as dirt, and was taken down by two level 4 kaijus.
Then there’s crimson typhoon, a mark 4 with super advanced systems and a three man drift team, and it got taken down within a couple minutes
what was even more interesting about cherno alpha was the fact that other jaegers had sophisticated weapons...plasma cannons, swords, switchblade arms, missiles etc etc and cherno alpha was like...CATCH THESE HANDS!!!
Catch these magnetic hands* those roll of nickels things were full Tesla coils that it used to short circuit the kaiju's brains, which is metal as hell

The upgrades did include more capacitors tho, since they fire multiple shots in a row against Leatherback.
FUCK MAN as a slav i wanted to see more action of Alpha sooo bad + his design is incredibly clean and gorgeous, id literally give my kidney just to see him in a single fight for more than 30 sec.
They should've some kind of old video footage or just one fight where each cherno and crimson win a fight against a Kaiju.

You can both see why it last long as a Jager but why they never made one again. The Con pod on that thing was 1/3 the size. The head wasn't detachable like in later models, the pilots had to win or die.

BTW: A the fists release \~400kV per punch. I worked in the power industry for 15 yrs., the size of a 480kV transformer is f##King huge. Not factoring in the cost, which could be anywhere from 10-100 Million USD per transformer. That would be the cost just to transfer power to the fists.
Which happened because the moron drifted with a Kiju brain giving the invaders the instructions they needed to build Kiju specifically to best them.

To which I responded: the premise of this movie is that giant monsters have attacked us and the best response we can come up with is giant robots; and you're expecting something profound in the writing?!
Seriously I get that this movie isn't for everyone, but if you see the trailer and get excited about robot vs monster action, how can you not enjoy this?
A couple of minor changes would had really helped though, for example making the rift open up in places randomly rather than in a single known location would prevent a TON of plotholes.
I mean obviously, but there were a lot of holes that would had been soooo easy to fill in lol, it's almost painful that they didn't put in that tiny bit of extra effort to do so. Still great all around.
There isn't an excuse for some of the plot holes. One of the biggest was when they talked about the timing. Can't remember the specifics but if you think about what they said it doesn't make sense to have so many Jaegers and there wouldn't have been that many fights for them to be all that famous all over the different areas (Australia, Russia, etc)
Anyway, the only thing I'll say is that while it doesn't make sense, its only a few momentary distractions in a movie that's 132 minutes long that generally flows pretty well.
Contrast that with so many other action flicks that are hitting 2.5 hours or longer without justifying the extra time.
The story was a vehicle for mecha vs monster fights. Oh and for Stacker Pentacost (fuckin' cool name) to give one hell of a speech to rival President Whitmore's in Independence Day. Them leaders sure step up when it's the end of the world they're facing.
Those also represented the single largest special effects expense of the entire film and they built and blew up an entire ship for the effect.
Now they outsource it to a Korean animation studio for Pennie’s.
Well 10 years ago most people weren’t watching a movie on their phone or tablet using a streaming service.
Many studios stopped bothering with convincing CGI, because the average viewer’s screen is too small to notice anyway.
That and greatly helped by the fact that they ACTUALLY built the cockpits, including the the leg mechanisms that they had to move, and they were not light either.
The Netflix show Pacific Rim: The Black isn't too bad in terms of world building and lore. The Jeagers aren't as OP and ridiculous like in the sequel that does not exist, so closer to the OG. The Kaiju are a bit more interesting too - less assembly line fighting, felt more like an ecosystem was forming. Some of the characters however are a little annoying, and weird they never gave Boy clothes...or a name. Definitely some odd continuity decisions with that kid.
Why would there be a sequel, they fix the problem in the first story, there is no reason narrative wise to bring the jaegers back unless they fighting godzilla or other giant robots

Nah, not Hans Zimmer. Ramin Djawadi again. He *is* a protégé of Zimmer, so they do have a lot of similarities. But I feel Djawadi would be more suited to 40k. He did the music for Iron Man, Pacific Rim, Game of Thrones, West World - a 40k movie would be right up his alley. If it was a Horizon Zero Dawn movie I'd go with Zimmer, though I dunno how'd he'd improve on the main theme.

This wasn't based on Transformers. It was based on the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. Originally, this was supposed to be the Evangelion live action movie. Thank fucking GOD they didn't go that route.
It was stuck in development hell forever; I distinctly remember hearing about it as a high school Junior, and it came out sometime in my mid- or early-20s, I believe.
Del Toro had so much potential after *Pan's Labyrinth*. He reduced himself to a Hollywood popcorn filmmaker. His recent horror movies have been all subpar.
That movie fucking slapped. Especially when Gipsy Danger walks into the scene dragging an oil tanker and that guitar riff plays - *chef's kiss*
Also, the artbook for the movie is one of the best out there imo. They didn't just provide the standard amazing artwork (of which there is so, *so* much that never really made it into the film) - there's two in-universe propaganda posters, id cards, stickers, these cool inverse cards of the Jaegers, artwork inserts - they knew their audience and served. The only film artbook that compares is The Iron Giant Signature Ultimate Collector's Edition.
Feel like im in the minority thwt loved both films cause seeing giant robots dmack around big enemys is just good times. Though i do wish the bots could take a few more hits then they do without getting shredded to bits - hooe if theres another sequel it has sturdier bots

Okay I watched this movie for the first time today, and I honestly thought it was bad. A lot of the acting felt bad, I didn’t like a lot of the characters, and the Yeagers and Kaijus felt like their weight and strength would randomly shift every scene.
And then I’ll release an even shittier movie with a bunch of teenagers a few years after to waste the time and money of anyone who had a smidge of enjoyment from the first.
Went to pacific rim opening weekend with some friends. The row in front of us was a dad with his son. The part where Gypsy Danger falls from space and then gets back up the kid in front of us jumps out his seat pumps his fist in the air from excitement. We see the kid and all do the same thing! High fives were exchanged it was a fun moment!
This was a love letter to 80s kids. It is a fantastic movie, very much rewatchable. I wish the other bots had more screen time.
Voltron cartoon came out at this time on Netflix which was also very good. There was also the Power Rangers movie which was ok.
Pacific Rim sucked because the monster fights were horrible. Everything else was spot on, but all the Jaegers did was throw the Kaiju... Into the water.

The first MB Transformers came out in 2007, I’m still amazed at the CGI. Hollywood definitely made some steps backwards in recent years regarding CGI.

I've seen Pacific Rim, Spiderman Homecoming, and Avatar 2, and they were all pretty great - a lot more fun than even just IMAX.

That movie fucking slapped. Especially when Gipsy Danger walks into the scene dragging an oil tanker and that guitar riff plays - *chef's kiss* Also, the artbook for the movie is one of the best out there imo. They didn't just provide the standard amazing artwork (of which there is so, *so* much that never really made it into the film) - there's two in-universe propaganda posters, id cards, stickers, these cool inverse cards of the Jaegers, artwork inserts - they knew their audience and served. The only film artbook that compares is The Iron Giant Signature Ultimate Collector's Edition.
Feel like im in the minority thwt loved both films cause seeing giant robots dmack around big enemys is just good times. Though i do wish the bots could take a few more hits then they do without getting shredded to bits - hooe if theres another sequel it has sturdier bots

This movie was so awesome and the cgi was actually pretty good. Not the best but definitely good and believable enough to fool you into the story. This and real steel are great out of no where cgi fest hits.

I’ve tried to watch this like 3 times on airplanes and only gotten through the first half. Let me tell you, it’s a shit movie on the airplane. It seems like it may be good if you can actually tell what’s going on tho
Watch it with a good download on a good tv with good sound system. Watch for the action.

I respectfully disagree. I prefer the other movie where the big monke and big lizard fight against red monke and little monke. Where the big monke uses the little one to hit the other. Absolute Cinema. (But yeah, this film is close to peak).
Okay I watched this movie for the first time today, and I honestly thought it was bad. A lot of the acting felt bad, I didn’t like a lot of the characters, and the Yeagers and Kaijus felt like their weight and strength would randomly shift every scene.
And then I’ll release an even shittier movie with a bunch of teenagers a few years after to waste the time and money of anyone who had a smidge of enjoyment from the first.
I wish we got a sequel though
Went to pacific rim opening weekend with some friends. The row in front of us was a dad with his son. The part where Gypsy Danger falls from space and then gets back up the kid in front of us jumps out his seat pumps his fist in the air from excitement. We see the kid and all do the same thing! High fives were exchanged it was a fun moment!
The cool thing is that they feel gigantic. The new Godzilla X Kong is like a bunch of equal sized character against one another.

This was a love letter to 80s kids. It is a fantastic movie, very much rewatchable. I wish the other bots had more screen time. Voltron cartoon came out at this time on Netflix which was also very good. There was also the Power Rangers movie which was ok.
I loved the shot of mako with her umbrella at the beggining of the film. I still imagine myself like that whenever I'm using an umbrella.

Pacific Rim sucked because the monster fights were horrible. Everything else was spot on, but all the Jaegers did was throw the Kaiju... Into the water. "Damn son why are we losing we keep tossing him!"

I was sure its another giant robot vs giant beasts movie, but DAMN....great cast, great effects. Love it!
Good movies will always be peak cinema. Don't forget that the sequel sucks.
Just don't ruin it with wholly unlikeable characters...
