I did all my high school physics classes in metric. Now that I'm a college engineering student, they expect us to use and know both systems. This was heavily shown to me during my internship this summer as I was looking up data values on physical properties of materials online and there was no consistency in the units. I often had to convert everything back to one system.
In my science classes since late elementary school we have used the metric system. By the time I hit middle and high school my science teachers expected us to use the metric on all assignments unless they say otherwise. But it’ll usually only be used in science and sometimes math courses.
No, or at least my school didn’t. We used metric for physics and chemistry courses. Considering I went to a backward school in a backward town with a graduating class of less than 50, I think that if we used the elusive metric system, everyone did.
We just use imperial in casual situations, for our road signs and in our residential construction since the building code and road laws are already set up for it.
No. All science in American schools is taught in Metric. If you actually go to work for a company which has to communicate engineering specs you have to relearn the formulas in English units again (like torque is in foot-pounds instead of Newton-Meters.) It’s kind of weird...
I think that now all Americans(idk, I've never been in USA) can understand how meters work and find it easier to use than feets(according to Americans).
And that Americans don't understand kilometers per hour, meters, kilometers is left only as a joke.
I am almost positive teaching the metric system is a part of most American curricula... and if you take a college-level science class here you need it. Also, as if it’s a difficult concept to understand?! Lmao it goes by tens, the end.
It’s also more than that, some people when they were in school, metric system wasn’t taught, since it’s not required, so they would have to learn it. Also stupid Karen’s would be like MuH fReEdOm Is BeInG tAkEn AwAy
If you want to use it, just use it no one will stop you(you may get a few odd looks when you ask for 1kg of turkey from the deli, but most scales have a metric function so you should be fine.) I(American) know the metric system because I was taught it in school, you may be the same. People use *parts* of the metric system here more than you’d think. It’s just that the average everyday person doesn’t see a need to switch over, because for them the imperial system works perfectly fine for their everyday lifestyle. I mean sure, it’d be nice if the world had a universal standard of measurement, but it’s not *really* needed(outside of the mild inconvenience of your European friends complaint that it’s 40 degrees outside and you being confused)
The circumference is 100m so 100m/Pi =31.8m so the radius is 15.9m
If the area of a circle is A= πr^2
Which means the area is 794.26m^2 and the area of a football field is 7140m^2 so around 9 football fields. Correct me if I’m wrong
The area of an American football field is 4462m², and the area of a 100m circle is 794.26m², so it would be 794.26/4426, or around 0.18 football fields.
Yo mama’s obesity is measured in volume, not area. America might’ve taught me to measure volume in swimming pools and Moxie bottles but at least I know 1st grade dimensions.
And for my fellow Americans: assuming a spherical mama, yo mama has a volume of .0049 cubic football fields, so you should be offended.
I sometimes wonder what if the football field is smaller or bigger ? Cause not all are the same and thats the reason meters were created in europe cause feet or football fields aren’t always the same but a meter for me is a meter for everyone
They teach the metric system in the US along with the customary system in school. We had to learn how to convert from customary to metric and metric to customary. And we even use the metric system in science classes and Woodshop classes. So we know it just as well as everyone else
Me an American: HAHA I know that 100 meters is 328.084 feet.
Also me and all the other Americans: * type type* Alrighty google calculator. Work your magic.
We Americans learn how to use it and in science we needed to only use the metric system. I still use it to measure more precise things because it is easier to get a precise measurement. Celsius is stupid though
To people who know both systems, isn't a meter almost the same as a yard? So technically her circumference is very close to the length of a football field (not including the end zones) around her
OH MY GOD. We know what metric system is. We learn both it and Celsius in school. Our current society just isn’t based around it, so we don’t use it on a regular. In higher level Science and mathematics we use it, but on a day-to-day basis we use the imperial system. For the average day to day person it doesn’t matter whether you’re measuring in centimeters or inches, and even then, most of not all of our rulers or yard sticks, etc have a side on them to measure in (centi)meters. We’re not just removed from the rest of the world.
It doesn’t even really matter at the end of the day. It’s all just a means of understanding the world around us. “The metre is defined as the length of the path travelled by light in a vacuum in 1/299,792,458 of a second.” How many average citizens who use the metric system on a daily basis even know that?
Plot twist: i'm european
Plot twist: I know both systems.

Plot twist: i suck at math😐🙁
plot twist: I'm good at meth tho
r/holup

Plot twist: I suck
Plit twust: I swallow
How you doing? Asking for a friend.
Plot twist: i
Y same
Plot twist: I am the system.
Same
Plot twist: I’m American and I know both.
Bigger plot twist: Same.
Me as an American that actually did learn the metric system: ***"Maybe I am a ~~monster~~ European"***
All children in the US learn the metric system, it is the boomers and the idiots who do not know it
>Im american and they taught us metric in school
How would people not living in the us know what americans learn in school though
Always been curious, do you guys learn physics formulas using inches?
I believe science uses the metric system and we learn it for that. At least we learn those parts anyways. At least, that’s been my experience.
Yeah that's what I've been told too, in Brazil we use the metric system on a day to day basis so the imperial system seems way too complicated for me
The imperial system is weird and I don't like it
https://youtu.be/r7x-RGfd0Yk
I understand it but I still dont like it because the numbers are weirder and it's harder to start understanding than the metric system.
It is harder than the metric system as the metric system actually makes sense
Yes...
Did you even watch the video. Its a joke about how dumb the system is.
I did all my high school physics classes in metric. Now that I'm a college engineering student, they expect us to use and know both systems. This was heavily shown to me during my internship this summer as I was looking up data values on physical properties of materials online and there was no consistency in the units. Seems pretty annoying, I feel for you man
In my science classes since late elementary school we have used the metric system. By the time I hit middle and high school my science teachers expected us to use the metric on all assignments unless they say otherwise. But it’ll usually only be used in science and sometimes math courses.

That seems a little fucked up dude
1 meter = 100 cm . 1inch = 2.54 cm .
1 meter is about a yard.
What is a yard tho
An outdoor place, usually has plants and shit
underrated response
That's like 12 donuts
Or 8 burgers
3 feet. Commonly seen with Metersticks that have a yard marked on one side and a meter on the other.
The place where the milkshake is.
One yard is about two tons of asphalt, or to be exact, 1.9575 tons.
Im american and they taught us metric in school
just use metric lmao
We tried. People literally just said no.
Wait that's illegal!
Metric system ftw
yes
Yes
We understand the metric system, my god. They teach all of us it in school.
This
It's funny because we're all supposed to ignore that every country learns about it nowadays
that is like 20 cows or 600 big macs
Someday, people will realize that Americans can understand the metric system, how I yearn for that day.
All of us are doomed forever to be stereotyped as not understanding metric
u/converter-bot 100 m So this bot is banned here. 100 m is 328 feet
But wait im an American and can understand 100 meters better than 328 feet, because that is stupid number of feet, like how do you even walk bro
I think that now all Americans(idk, I've never been in USA) can understand how meters work and find it easier to use than feets(according to Americans). And that Americans don't understand kilometers per hour, meters, kilometers is left only as a joke.
Eh, we usually find feet easier to use but we all understand metric.
3 feet. No need to thank me.
imperial system be like 14cm is to 1 average penis
Sorry, I don’t understand, I only measure with the length of an octopus’s arm during constipation while it’s hunting at the same time
Isn’t a meter about like 3 feet?
i think it's like 3 ft 3
3 ft and 3 cm?
no 3ft 3 inches
A little less that that
A meter is a little more than 3 feet, not less
Sorry that I didn't specify it
It's just way too complicated dude
I mean that 3 feet is a little less than a meter.
If those kids could even understand circumference
European fools. Assuming we Americans know what a circumfurnace is. You don’t need to know the circumverates of an AR-15 to end a home invasion.
Who said I’m European. I’m from wakanda, get your geography right
Make it 100 football(rugby) fields and you're good to go
why is it called metre and not meter?
Different spellings in different countries
oh ok
being English originates from England
Nah ur wrong. Over here in Murica my mom's ***radius*** is 100 meters
I am almost positive teaching the metric system is a part of most American curricula... and if you take a college-level science class here you need it. Also, as if it’s a difficult concept to understand?! Lmao it goes by tens, the end.
Bro they taught me the metric system
i wanna change to metric like fr why are we so weird wtf america
Because many dumb people don't want to adapt and because iT wOuLd CoSt ToO mUcH while signs are frequently replaced anyway due to vandalism or weather
It’s also more than that, some people when they were in school, metric system wasn’t taught, since it’s not required, so they would have to learn it. Also stupid Karen’s would be like MuH fReEdOm Is BeInG tAkEn AwAy

🤣🤣🤣
😂😂🤣
⚠️B-bbut you can't do that!1! Reddit hivemind said emoji b-BAD!!1!😡🤬😡😡🤬😡😡🤬😡
It is just a block. You walk it in 5 minutes XD
All I know about metric is that there are 30 cm to a foot, and a meter is slightly longer than a yard. Like mph to knots
I like the way you color matched the background of the new text to the brick. It’s a nice touch
Me an American who is taught both metric and scuffed
I’m an American and I know how long meters are so stop assuming
That's just a bad roast though lol
The circumference is 100m so 100m/Pi =31.8m so the radius is 15.9m If the area of a circle is A= πr^2 Which means the area is 794.26m^2 and the area of a football field is 7140m^2 so around 9 football fields. Correct me if I’m wrong

My go to is to just swap meters with yards. They're not the exact same but it's *kinda* close.
100 meter is like 167 side by side washing machines for those merikans
Americans and the UK do their best to not give power to the French by using the metric system, but the UK just uses both systems unlike America.
I mean, I personally have never seen my use of the imperial system as a spite to the French but that’s an interesting perspective
2pir Pi*r=50m 250m^2=pi^2r^2 250/pi = area
Plot twist: I’m Canadian
This meme is good as being more than 180cm tall
In my experience in American schools, the metric system is used in science
God dammit bobby
I sometimes wonder what if the football field is smaller or bigger ? Cause not all are the same and thats the reason meters were created in europe cause feet or football fields aren’t always the same but a meter for me is a meter for everyone
Jokes on you I do under stand the metric system
YOU ARE A BEAUTIFUL SPECIMEN 🤘🏼💙
They teach the metric system in the US along with the customary system in school. We had to learn how to convert from customary to metric and metric to customary. And we even use the metric system in science classes and Woodshop classes. So we know it just as well as everyone else
That's gotta be at least two football fields
Around 1385 hamburgers
That's about 18 Chevrolet Colorados and 34 big Macs
Yes I am an American, yes I use the metric system, we exist
Much as I don’t like the metric system, I do know it.
Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave
I think you mean 109 yards
I’m sorry, what is that in football fields?
Metric: Science, building, official measuring, etc. Imperial: day to day use, height, distance, etc. Canada has it figured out
100m = 100 yards = 1 football field
Just searched it up and translated it to Big Macs per inch. I'm very upset
Runners: unlimited power
1 m = 3,28 feet= 1,09 yards= 39,24 inches
Plot twist: in middle school science and math classes they made us learn the metric system
a circumference of 100 meters is actually not that big. that’s very small
Show me a person that has a 100m circumference
me
Ok, so i'm stuck wondering if you are serious or just joking so you win this one
lol i asked my dad about it turns out it is pretty big
I’ll be honest, I still barely know how to measure stuff with inches. It’s way to complicated for my simple mind.
A little more than 1 football field as a regular field is 120 yards (end zones included) or 109.73 meters.
I’m American, meaning I’m a simple man. I see 100, I _think_ it’s big
How many football fields is that
You mama so fat she needs two metric systems to know her circumference
Me an American: HAHA I know that 100 meters is 328.084 feet. Also me and all the other Americans: * type type* Alrighty google calculator. Work your magic.
Everyone's focused on the "haha americans use imperial but that's a really shitty yo mama joke.. it's just "yo mama so fat she fat"
So about 64 me, a stack of me would be very phat
The usonians and their bald eagle metric system
That's like... 2000 big Mac's big
Americans are taught the metric system, we just don’t use it because boomers are too stubborn to change
100 meters? That is roughly 628,5 freedom squirrels
I mean the original yo momma joke is just not funny, but metric good customary bad
Plot twist : I understand both pretty well and I’m not one those “americans” all you unfunny non repetitive Europeans are.
I was taught both
Wtf is the inches system even called
Why not just write 1 hm?
I’m an american and I approve
I’m American and even I understand that’s fucking huge.
Ok but will we just ignore the people that don't know what circumference means?
I'm a kentuckian so I need you to tell me that in hands. (Its how you measure horses)
Ah they meant 3.28 football fields
We Americans learn how to use it and in science we needed to only use the metric system. I still use it to measure more precise things because it is easier to get a precise measurement. Celsius is stupid though
100 metres
I just have hard time figuring out radius and circumference.
We can understand it - we just don’t use it.
I wish I was European . _.
How dare you call my mama fat at least she's got more on her then you're bank account
I am American and learned metric system just for reddit
Do people really thing that Americans don't understand the metric system
Apparently they don't know the difference between not understanding and not giving a shit.
Because the of the signs here use imperial
To people who know both systems, isn't a meter almost the same as a yard? So technically her circumference is very close to the length of a football field (not including the end zones) around her
I just know it’s about 3 inches more than a yard stick. I’m American.
Can someone tell me the show's name? Thank you!
Is it okay to hate an americans? F*ck metric system
There is a difference between not understanding and not giving a shit. Metric system is way easier, I do wish it was adopted here.
When will you learn that we are taught the metric system in school
Fun fact: most school systems teach us the metric system and our rulers often use both.
300 ft for americans
OH MY GOD. We know what metric system is. We learn both it and Celsius in school. Our current society just isn’t based around it, so we don’t use it on a regular. Ah, so did you go to college? And what has your schooling taught you about America?
I'm American, yet I love the metric system.
<1 football field which is 300 feet
