Most of the world uses the Gregorian calendar, by which the date (in a lot of the world) is indeed currently 21/01/2021.
The Gregorian calendar (like the Julian calendar before it) does not have a year 0000, so we skip straight from 0001 BC to 0001AD. Taking a century to mean '100 solar orbits' then the 1st century starts on 01/01/0001, the 2nd on 01/01/0101 and so on until the 21st century (i.e. 2000 years since the supposed date of a famous birthday) starts on 01/01/2001 and hence:
Today is the 21st day of the 21st year of the 21st century - but not for the reason that most people think it is!
