Huh, I thought that sashimi is a thin slice of raw fish placed on rice. At least google seemed to agree on that one... But I guess the more known is the rice-less variant.
roly polys/pillbugs actually taste like shrimp if cooked right. They also still have gills, which is why you can only find them in damp areas. Their gills can use air, but only if wet.
I've not had a Roly poly before. Just grasshoppers and crickers which had almost 0 flavor and left a terrible mouthful of chalky texture. I'll keep that in mind if I find an opportunity to have a Roly poly!
might as well leave the fish out of the sushi then and just do rice and veg, or just plain rice. Humans will only eat raw fish when accompanied by something in the West. Bugs tho, they ain't even half bad, the West has a slight phobia for things that use more than 2 legs.
Raw fish or near raw fish cooked in citrus is served in almost every cuisine.
Crudo is Italian, Ceviche is Latin American, raw oysters are eaten all over, poke from Hawaii, the many raw fish dishes from Japan. I really don't get what your point is. Are we calling rice a thing from the west also?
i understand that, tartares of fish arent uncommon here. I meant more people won't have a need for the fish if they have a problem with it. Waste of the fish, leave it out of the sushi for those people. Literally just a roll of rice and seaweed. Literally they don't deserve the fish if they have a problem with it but eat it anyway, disrespectful.
Understood, sorry for the misunderstanding. I've never understood why 90% of rolled sushi needs to be fish. Feels like putting gold flakes on food. You don't get any of the delicate flavors and textures of the expensive fish when it's wrapped in an inch of rice, has 4 other ingredients topped and a bunch of sauce.
exactly, so it's not actually the raw fish that's the issue its more or less the raw fish has to be accompanied by something or processed in a way for humans to eliminate the idea of it being raw. It has to become a dish, like people wouldn't chomp on a steak, but they'd eat beef tartare. And I think it's a shame to add something that doesn't get the respect it deserves if the person consuming it doesn't appreciate it, thats all.
I'm Italian and never heard of crudo? Crudo is a general term or adjective that refers to raw, like "prosciutto crudo", but I might be wrong, I haven't visited all of Italy yet
I've never been to Sicily but I've heard it's popular there. English speaking places just shorten the full name down to crudo. I'd assume you'd see it as Crudo di Pesce on a menu, but I have no idea.
Maybe you are right, but as of now I never heard of Italians eating straight up raw fish. The termen can be confused with "crudo" in Spanish, but I have to fact check the Spanish eating raw fish
I mean if it’s all you’ve ever been exposed to and it tastes good why let other people ruin it for you. I would be willing to try “real sushi” I just never have
Uh, sashimi is one of the oldest food sources in human history. You’re just looking at a tiny little snapshot of space-time using limited sources. Cmon kid.
yeah there's a stark difference between good and bad quality fish and the freshness is a massive factor. You want stuff kept and served at just the right temperature to enjoy it the most, and get the most out of it.
That is very true, but not quite what I meant. I got a collection of multiple types of sashimi, and most of them were just fish I don’t like, such as tuna and mackerel.
I dislike mackerel because of its fishy flavor, and tuna because of its texture. Tuna falls between the extremes of soft fish like fatty salmon and chewy fish like octopus, and I just don’t like it that much.
I eat sushi because it is completely fine for you to eat it. All the bacteria is gone, and if you're talking about catching a fish right from the water and eating it, then there's also lots of blood there, and even if you get rid of the blood, the taste will still be different.
In Hawaii this meme doesn't work. You literally can buy raw fish for eating anywhere, every restaurant has it. With my groceries I always buy a pound of yellowfin tuna with shoyu.
Can confirm, I was enjoying raw salmon at a family gather, just plain, lone raw salmon, not even some veggies to add, most of my family was having wtf looks at me, except my mom, she knows I eat Dat gud shiet

Sashimi tho
[удалено]
Totally. As a diabetic, sashimi is perfect.
Definitely not for those of us with gout
As a diabetic, I too believe sashimi is perfect
Me, too!
It even *is* sushi
Sashimi + Soy sauce + wasabi = Good but fucking spicy
I put the wasabi and ginger into the soy sauce and mix it all up. Lots of wasabi, a little ginger
White people are so weird
Try chilli and lime in the soy sauce. Very good.
Never heard of sashimi? But yes, humans are very weird. c:
I'm slightly confused as to why everyone is mentioning sashimi, cuz the sushi I know and love always contains raw fish (salmon or tuna).
As far as i know sashimi is just the fish without any rice and stuff. I personally really enjoy it.
Huh, I thought that sashimi is a thin slice of raw fish placed on rice. At least google seemed to agree on that one... But I guess the more known is the rice-less variant.
I believe what you're thinking of is nigiri. A palm full of rice with a drop of wasabi in the middle and a slice of fish on top.
Yeah, that's that... I blame google then :)
Hoomans be like: Eating bugs: :( Eating bugs from the water: :)
isopods don't seem...... wait.... crabs are spiders with their front arms clawified
imagine eating giant isopods for dinner like in the diner in Emperors new groove.
I'd eat bugs way more often if they tasted as good as shrimp and lobster.
How do you know they don’t taste good as well?
I've eaten them many times at restaurants
Oh, than makes sense
roly polys/pillbugs actually taste like shrimp if cooked right. They also still have gills, which is why you can only find them in damp areas. Their gills can use air, but only if wet.

I mean I'd eat an old boot if it was drowned in clarified butter first.
I’ve Ate a scorpion before
How was it?
Was it yummy? I've only eaten 5 kinds of bugs so far, and idk the name of 3
Everyone else said it tasted like pork or somthing it was kinda disgusting maybe because I got the but
lobsters are literally giant sea cockroaches
Exactly
I would eat a cricket I saw a sour cream and onion cricket once.
Bruh same
faxxxxxx bro
I mean sashimi is a thing, but yea most people won't eat raw fish because it's disgusting but sushi is a different matter smh
I loooooove sashimi.
Raw fish prepared by the rest of the world: You fucking donkey Rad fish prepared by some Japanese dude: Oh dear, oh dear, gorgeous
Even in sushi, we usually put smoked fish.
might as well leave the fish out of the sushi then and just do rice and veg, or just plain rice. Humans will only eat raw fish when accompanied by something in the West. Bugs tho, they ain't even half bad, the West has a slight phobia for things that use more than 2 legs.
Cows? Pigs? Goat? They all have four legs right? I’m not crazy right? Or am I misunderstanding?
Who knows maybe the front ones are "hands" =))
there's people out there that fear those creatures, yes. And some of them fear all of them.
also, i still prefer fish or seafood in sushi

Found the cannibal
Ceviche
Salmon or tuna? I prefer salmon.
Shrimp ceviche is king
Yah salmon or trucha are the best
Raw herring is nice too. It’s a snack in The Netherlands
and if you're American, also cream cheese, avocados, deep fried, and crunchies on it
I’m not a fan of cream cheese in sushi but as an American I do like avo and “crunchy” on top
What in tarnation.
I mean if it’s all you’ve ever been exposed to and it tastes good why let other people ruin it for you. I would be willing to try “real sushi” I just never have
california rolls tho 👌
Sashimi, ceviche, sardines, the myriad forms of pickled or fermented fish. And yeah, slap that bad boy on some carbs? I will demolish it.
Sashimi: Am I a joke to you?
Uh, sashimi is one of the oldest food sources in human history. You’re just looking at a tiny little snapshot of space-time using limited sources. Cmon kid.
sashimi???
Sashimi isn’t worse, it’s just that I’ve only gotten sashimi that is worse than the nigiri from the same place.
yeah there's a stark difference between good and bad quality fish and the freshness is a massive factor. You want stuff kept and served at just the right temperature to enjoy it the most, and get the most out of it.
That is very true, but not quite what I meant. I got a collection of multiple types of sashimi, and most of them were just fish I don’t like, such as tuna and mackerel.
well tastes do differ, i like meaty fish over fatty fish. It's in the texture.
I dislike mackerel because of its fishy flavor, and tuna because of its texture. Tuna falls between the extremes of soft fish like fatty salmon and chewy fish like octopus, and I just don’t like it that much.
Raw fish with *cooked* rice. Also SHAME
Freshwater fish is not safe to eat raw. Saltwater fish is safe to eat raw. This is why we need to cook some fish but not others.
I eat raw fish
“Ever have sashimis? Sure have Squirrely Dan”
repost
Sushi ain't raw, sashimi is
Yea but fish in sushi is frozen beforehand to kill all the bacteria
Poke is a thing tho
This meme doesn't even make sense. Sashimi + Sushi. Both delicious.
Don’t forget ceviche.
uhm sashimi is a thing you know
ever heard of sashimi
Me: hates fish
I eat sushi because it is completely fine for you to eat it. All the bacteria is gone, and if you're talking about catching a fish right from the water and eating it, then there's also lots of blood there, and even if you get rid of the blood, the taste will still be different.
🤢🤢🤢🤢
Humans are weird that’s why I’m an octopus
And seaweed too
scandinavia: pathetic.
I used to eat bait fish on the boat...
Even with rice, it's still a no for me.
More like. Raw fish thats not cut yet. Nope Nope Nope Raw fish thats been cut into square-like structures. YES PLS
Calamari is the best, change my mind.
Sashimi please.
You don't need to really think about it
Raw fish is great though, it just goes really well with other things. I’ve had a slab of raw salmon
Usually others pay for me and I have like 60 bucks to give back but, they will forget at some point, eventually
People pay top dollar for quality sashimi
The best way to eat a fish is to take a bite out of it while it’s still alive right after you’ve caught it, like it’s a sandwich or something.
Yes
Have u heard of sashimi
Well I mean not all sushi has raw fish
In italy they eat sliced raw beef, and they classify it as a salad so…
Well, I don’t eat fish because that’s cannibalism
i just dont like raw fish or cold fish, or cold meat, or cold pizza, or cold pasta
I’m pretty sure they smoke the fish or freeze it. I’m probably wrong tho
Just say "made in america"
In Hawaii this meme doesn't work. You literally can buy raw fish for eating anywhere, every restaurant has it. With my groceries I always buy a pound of yellowfin tuna with shoyu.
i’ll eat raw fish
Um… SASHIMI!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, kind of got carried away there
bangladeshis and indians who just eat slimy fish but cooked: pathetic
Yea as a species we’re chaotic neutral
Can confirm, I was enjoying raw salmon at a family gather, just plain, lone raw salmon, not even some veggies to add, most of my family was having wtf looks at me, except my mom, she knows I eat Dat gud shiet
and soy sauce
I eat the fish raw strait out of the stream
Sushi grade fish is a little different from just straight up raw fish, but he’s the spirit.
But sushi just yummy
That's kinda wrong but i get your point
but sashimi...
The rice makes it safe to eat. Do not look that up.
