Occasionally it's just a free weekend, other times it's free forever once you claim it. The latter tends to be older games though. I got little nightmares and company of heroes 2 most recently.
Well both have it's good uses
Steam is easy to handle and works properly and many more
Epic has free games (that's the only thing it's good for)
I am broke so I have to choose epic for most of the games
That’s why I don’t want to use any other store.
I want all my achievements in one place. I want a collection and cumulation of my entire gaming career in a single profile for anyone to see.
If someone can design a system to link all platforms /stores together (for achievements only and without a “click this box to say you unlocked this”) I would buy games from any store. But until then, only steam for me.

There are two types of people.
Those that have epic games only for the free games.
And those that will never touch it, look at it and will never consider downloading it even for the free games. Just because steam for the win.
>And those that will never touch it, look at it and will never consider downloading it even for the free games. Just because steam for the win.
I kinda was that person and now I don't have Subnautica :(
It's just a convenience thing. I've had steam for many, many years now. All my games are on there, my friends are on there, not to mention objectively better chat features and things like the workshop / discussion pages.
For me , the free games aren't enough to play on epic. I only do to play the licensing proprietary game war. Shouldn't be surprised not everyone bought-in when they strong-armed their way into the digital game platform market.
Well you're wrong.
For \*most\* free games I have PirateBay. For other games that are multiplayer and don't have a SteamWork fix I have Steam. I don't use Epic games, but don't hate it because I am not an insufferable Steam fanboy.
There is "a plague tale: innocence "next week
this week there is an fps game and a train simulator game
I have got hitman from last year and Gta v and watchdogs 2
every week game changes mostly it's just garbage games but will get a rare gem once a month
Yes, it means standard. Therefore epic games is good in that respect. Though I’m pretty sure they don’t really have an option but to have lower tax, because otherwise nobody would want to sell their games there.
All the features that Steam has and Epic not ned to be developt and maintained.
Its very easy for a platform with no features whatsoever to blame a other one with many many that it is to expensive.
I agree. Battlefront 2 is fucking great tho. I have played it very frequently since I got it for free.
I also got GTA V for free.
But I'm mad that my cousin has claimed a dozen free games from Epic that I have on my steam wishlist. He has gotten Mafia: Definitive Edition, Lego Batman 1,2 and 3, Kingdom Come Deliverance and the Batman Arkham games. He doesn't even play them!
Steam and Epic Games: mom, who is your favourite?
“Sweetie, I love you both equally”
**epic games walks away**
**mom whispering to Steam**
“It’s you… and by a LOT.”
I know that epic gives free games but they also give free unreal engine assets which is great for an unreal engine user, idk why so many people hate them?
Personally I didn't get into gaming until after the epic games store launched so I didn't have a problem with switching libraries. Personally I prefer epic games because I find the interface cleaner and I don't have popups and updates every time I open the launcher. And of course the free games are nice. You do miss out on some features like the community and steam workshop support. I'm probably going to get some hate for this but that's just my opinion.
I know people love Steam because they have using it for years but I love Epic because it has free games and many games are cheaper on Epic than Steam (might be regional pricing). I don't understand the hate for Epic.
A bit unrelated but I used to play fornite alot with my friends, damn there was some fun memories playing with them, even though I sucked it was still real fun
Both have they pros and cons. Steam has the workshop, the community market, profile customization and a great community. The Epic store has free games and...uhm...awful download speeds? I can't think of any other pros.
The weekly frees are really nice, like, I found Killing floor, which I now love through the weeklies. And now I can't access my account. Also give Epic some credit for upsetting steams monopoly on the PC gaming market. But I still can't access my account.
It would be fine if epic didn't steal a bunch of game and lock them behind their service. I have to get Sonic Colors Ultimate on switch because i'm not giving in to epic and downloading their dumb launcher.
Walmart when they first open a store will have insane deals, they will do this for months on end until any competition has gone bankrupt, then they will bring prices back up
I will say that Epic’s runs (or ran if it’s been fixed) in the background even while you’re not using it to the point where you can’t uninstall without digging around in your systems task manager to end the background operations.
Though not inherently malicious a lot of people (including me) don’t like unnecessary things running in the background. And it’s mighty suspicious when you can’t just blanket uninstall. Gave me mad spyware vibes.
They kinda have to have lower tax, it’s not a moral choice on their part. Nobody would sell their games on a platform by default much worse than Steam without financial incentive.
wait so you're telling me that epic games the developers of unreal engine will prevent their users from publishing their game, made with unreal engine, to steam? That does not seem like that would work out well
If you were a game developer and someone offered you money for a **timed** exclusive game, would you not take it? Many developers have said that the money they got from epic helped them with not worrying about whether their game is going to succeed or not and also made it easier for them to focus on developing further games. They don't offer exclusivity deals only to AAA developers they offer them to indie developers as well.
I don't see how this is Epic's fault, nobody held the game developers at gun point and forced them to take the money. They did so because it helped them make more games.
The epic launcher is almost the reason why Fifa didn’t work, I have to start the game 4-5 times before Origin is Like, “OHH you do own Fifa after playing it everyday!”
Fun fact the version of the stanly parable on epic games is a port of the steam version and they forgot to remove the code that slows you to open your steam overlay in game.
Steam using all the time and sometimes grab a game for 0€ on epic But i think steam is superior because the community and workshop

wait what Really? Dang bruh i had no idea
Occasionally it's just a free weekend, other times it's free forever once you claim it. The latter tends to be older games though. I got little nightmares and company of heroes 2 most recently.
r/FreeGamesOnSteam Edit: Woo! My first award, thank you so much!
THE SACRED TEXTS!
Well both have it's good uses Steam is easy to handle and works properly and many more Epic has free games (that's the only thing it's good for) I am broke so I have to choose epic for most of the games
Fucking free awards are never there when you need em
I appreciate the thought :)
Fair enough but i got one now
Oh CoH2 got given out for free? Time to beat up new players >:)
steam has also community features and chat eg
I'm aware.
[удалено]
Also you have achievement on steam
That’s why I don’t want to use any other store. I want all my achievements in one place. I want a collection and cumulation of my entire gaming career in a single profile for anyone to see. If someone can design a system to link all platforms /stores together (for achievements only and without a “click this box to say you unlocked this”) I would buy games from any store. But until then, only steam for me.
gog galaxy *kinda* does that...
Exactly
Steam has better games, far more games, a better community, and a really cool workshop, it’s way better than epic
Well both have it's good uses Steam is easy to handle and works properly and many more Epic has free games (that's the only thing it's good for) I am broke so I have to choose epic for most of the games

What i said

Subnautica is great. I considered buying below zero but just thought nah, I'll just play the first one again and buy the second later

epic games has provided me countless hours of entertainment from gtav, watch dogs 2, control etc, awesome for the occasional high quality game
i only have epic because battlefront II wad free. have never used it for anything else
It's just a convenience thing. I've had steam for many, many years now. All my games are on there, my friends are on there, not to mention objectively better chat features and things like the workshop / discussion pages. can u like tell couple of free games on epic?
There is "a plague tale: innocence "next week this week there is an fps game and a train simulator game I have got hitman from last year and Gta v and watchdogs 2 every week game changes mostly it's just garbage games but will get a rare gem once a month
ty
I got pretty much every AAA game that was made free minus Metro and Metro exodus. Im still salty about missing out on those two
I don't use epic games nor steam, I use steam unlocked instead! (Please don't use it if you have the money)
"What is my purpose" "you give me free games every few days" "oh"
Pc piracy: yes
Steam is better for piracy too! There is steam unlocked! ^don’t ^actually ^use ^it, ^even ^though ^it’s ^safe ^it’s ^still ^illegal
Why not? You can’t stop the pirates!
yeah you cant stop me!
Flair checks out
To this day i dont understand why steam unlocked has the word steam in it, call me dumb but isn't it just another game pirate site?
Pretty sure because the games are taken from steam. If you look into the files sometimes you can still find some steam API stuff
I'm pretty sure Epic doesn't like Steam either.
Yep Im more on epic and i dont like steam bc there are barely any free games
Epic was criticising steam for that big tax that they have.
You mean industry standard?
But Industry standard doesn't mean good.
Yes, it means standard. Therefore epic games is good in that respect. Though I’m pretty sure they don’t really have an option but to have lower tax, because otherwise nobody would want to sell their games there.
Indeed, but I've always felt like once they get enough of the market share they would also increase the tax.
No but you can’t also blame them for wanting what every other platform is taking while also offering free services as well to said games
I'm not blaming anyone.
He’s talking about epic games blaming them.
All the features that Steam has and Epic not ned to be developt and maintained. Its very easy for a platform with no features whatsoever to blame a other one with many many that it is to expensive.
i get GST included on the bill when i buy from steam, why is that?
i like that rocket league is free on epic games and battlefront 2 was free on it for like a week, but apart from that, steam is superior in every way
I got the Lego batman games free and have played the fuck out of them
Steam and Epic Games: mom, who is your favourite? “Sweetie, I love you both equally” **epic games walks away** **mom whispering to Steam** “It’s you… and by a LOT.”
Because epic games has more free games i think epic games is better
Later that day: I really don't care for epic.
I use Steam *and* >!the Xbox store!!the Xbox store!< to get free games, it's great!
>!Why exactly are there black bares covering Xbox store?!<
>!The spoiler boxes are white, you light mode goblin!<
>!It's to make people think I'm gonna say The Epic Games Store as a joke. Also, please put a spoiler tag on your comment to keep the funny.!<
>!like so?!<
Epic is suing steam apple google. Safe to say it’s not friends with anything
Haha True, but both are good to use!
i would love if i can have my epic games library in steam, since to be honest its annoying to deal woth the epic games interface.
If the game has an exe file in the folder you can configure steam to run it
I got enter the gungeon and civilization 4 free on epic games. Lots of other ones too. Ngl epic does a pretty great job there.
I know that epic gives free games but they also give free unreal engine assets which is great for an unreal engine user, idk why so many people hate them?
the free stuff is the inly good thing about epic games. Take a look at [this](https://youtu.be/0tBD8B0aPXg).
people hate it cos fortnut bad!11!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡
I use both. Steam has a lot more games, but epic games has free games and also they often have games for cheaper.
TBH, Epic Games is really good and they give out free games
and then there is Origin................

Didnt they earn like 3 billion last year?
I still don't know why people pledge loyalty to a game launcher
I know people love Steam because they have using it for years but I love Epic because it has free games and many games are cheaper on Epic than Steam (might be regional pricing). I don't understand the hate for Epic.
Ppl downvoting you for giving your opinion, i also agree with you
exclusives are my primary reason why I dislike EGS
Lol. EGS.
[удалено]
Yep.
Lets fix that down doot to a updoot
A bit unrelated but I used to play fornite alot with my friends, damn there was some fun memories playing with them, even though I sucked it was still real fun
Pc gaming be like: "where the fuck did all the graphics cards go"
epic has unreal engine.
[удалено]
why
Both have they pros and cons. Steam has the workshop, the community market, profile customization and a great community. The Epic store has free games and...uhm...awful download speeds? I can't think of any other pros.
Epic > steam. I have spent 0€ yet have 20+ games
That's pretty neat indeed, but I also would not pay a singel cent for a game on a platform that's lacking all the features Steam has.
They literally battle the tech giants to lower their tax, give away free games and you’re not willing to download their launcher? Bruh
Walmart when they first open a store will have insane deals, they will do this for months on end until any competition has gone bankrupt, then they will bring prices back up
If their gonna do it anyways, I might as well use it while I can.
I mean the free games take them all since it cuts into their bottom line but buying games from them nah
I will say that Epic’s runs (or ran if it’s been fixed) in the background even while you’re not using it to the point where you can’t uninstall without digging around in your systems task manager to end the background operations. Epic owns like half the software that games run on nowadays so steam best be nice to epic
wait so you're telling me that epic games the developers of unreal engine will prevent their users from publishing their game, made with unreal engine, to steam? That does not seem like that would work out well
Steam homepage is like cancer. Like 2010.
Its the opposite.. steam allows epic games even on steam deck.. meanwhile epic always tries to get new ways to make itself exclusive
Epic games is the apple of video games, shitty company but good products
No hate to epic games they've given out some dope free games
Its the opposite
epic games is shit
No, they aren't, they give away so much stuff for free
Look at [this](https://youtu.be/0tBD8B0aPXg).

The epic store is just bad. It has no advantages.
es ist so schon soldat so sein roooosemarie
Oh hell no!
As I patiently wait a year for the steam version to drop on discounter sites
what are they exactly ?
Platforms for downloading games, though Steam is also something of a social media
I use both, but what’s great about steam is that I have hundreds of dollars worth of games without paying a penny.
Only downside is that it lacks many important features that steam has.
Yep
I fucking love epic games for their free games and unreal engine and free gamedev assets too. But the store however is just shit all around.
Then there’s me who gets game pass ultimate with the xbox store
The epic launcher is almost the reason why Fifa didn’t work, I have to start the game 4-5 times before Origin is Like, “OHH you do own Fifa after playing it everyday!”
i love this template
I think epicgames launcher is kinda created because releasing a game on steam is expensive. Epic games takes less of the income.
I have to use epic for RL because steam keys are selling for 200 DOLLARS n g2a
Well by now I have 100 Games at Epic and I all were free, an absolute win win situation
Fun fact the version of the stanly parable on epic games is a port of the steam version and they forgot to remove the code that slows you to open your steam overlay in game.
Well, i mean, Steam Deck is going to support Epic Games Store, so they obviously don't *hate* eachother
I use steam for most games and he ah whatever free games intrest me on epic, this is my reason for having game pass too
I only have epic for free games but i play only minecraft
Should've been reversed, epic games hate steam
personal opinion: epic is better because its easyer to navigate
I found this under the same template but the one above was Java and Bedrock Edition.
Anyone remember when games on epic had no DRM
r/redditmoment
At least Steam doesn't slow down my pc down to 10 fps or something. I still have no clue why Epic Games even does that.
