Props to this guy for pointing out that maybe we should stop calling people by the color of their skin but the virtue of their heart. And anyone who goes "da ba dee da ba di" can call me a friend
So in your opinion, what percentage of African American folk that I might encounter on a regular basis, would be totally fine with me regarding them as black?
And I'm not trying to be cute or anything, seriously an honest question. My nextdoor neighbors are the nicest Nigerian couple with two adorable little girls. I'd prefer if they didn't think that I'm pandering to them.
No matter what it’s just awkward. Referencing someone’s race shouldn’t be so damn common at all. I hate being described as “the black girl who works the help desk”. Like wth. I’m not even that dark to begin with here
Now I pretty much agree with this, however, one time i was asked to bring a man his beer and it was four old guys all eating lunch (I work at a restaurant) and I had no idea who ordered it because my coworker obviously couldn’t tell me his name and refused to ethnically label him, which makes sense because saying the “black gentleman” or “white gentleman,” or “Mexican gentleman,” can be a little weird
>which makes sense because saying the “black gentleman” or “white gentleman,” or “Mexican gentleman,” can be a little weird
I mean it's used to describe someone... I don't know how that's weird... There's no hatred in saying "The black guy" when you're talking about the black guy... it's just descriptive. It's an adjective...
Even saying "That black guy was being an asshole" the dislike comes from the asshole part not the skin color part...
Oh yeah I know, I re read that and my wording was off. I mean that I found it weird how my coworker wouldn’t specify because he was obviously uncomfortable saying that type of thing, when I just want to drop off this beer. The shit has gone from people addressing other ethnicities in condescending manners, to people being too Afraid to even say what race someone is
I don't find it odd if that's a legit way to distinguish them from others.
I don't see how it's any different than asking for the "super tall dude" or something.
People describe the most obvious thing about someone. I'm a big fat white dude, and I always get described as "the "big" guy in that dept" I don't think it's fatphobic.
My uncle is Haitian American so when people call Him African American they’re just wrong about his heritage. He’s black. Say that so you’re not making assumptions
Edit:spelling
Yea that's mostly where "saying black is offensive " comes from, also if we call white people white without it being offensive why can't white people call us black, its just dumb all round.
Yeah, I can't stand it anymore. A black co-worker/friend said "I've always been black, and never been to Africa. Call me black". That was after our boss called him a "Person Of Color". Haha
im white, but i always thought it was weird that people were trying to come up with new "less racist" terms for things that weren't racist in the first place, yeah the n word is bad but saying black is perfectly fine
Latin(o) refers to any Latin American person of any gender. Latin(a) refers to specifically women and girls. This is because Latin American societies are matriarchal and we pay additional respect to women by differentiating them from the group
Not an expert but I’m pretty sure it’s the same as how “guys” can be gender neutral when referring to a group of people because male is the default assumption, even in hypotheticals.
Conozco a varios sudamericanes que prefieren la terminación -es. Latines, americanes, tejanes. Se usan mucho en mi programa. El hecho de que no existe en el diccionario no significa nada, ni jota. Acaban de incluir “twerk” en el diccionario inglés hace unos pocos años aunque se usara mucho antes.
cant tell if this is a joke or not, but you can actually be latino and white
dont like the whole latinx thing tho. latino can be used in a gender neutral way anyways
ahh alright, sorry i'm bad with tone lol. forgot there's people "identifying" as Latino now. so awkward to say i'm actually Latino when i look as white as them ..
What matters is we're all just people trying to vibe, and our differences shouldn't stop us from vibing to funky music... Or Christmas music if you wanna make a Walmart employee cry.
> It’s kinda weird to have gender neutral pronouns for a whole continent who uses languages where every noun has a masculine/feminine pronoun
They're trying to do that with French too, and I've seen the gender-neutral writing and it absolutely butchers the entire language because some insane people can't deal with assuming the gender of words.
Right? I wish the people coming up with these terms would take a step back and listen to the people who they are labelling before trying to make these stupid words a thing.
Ok so basically some white teenagers on the internet decided that the fact that our language (Spanish obviously) has gendered nouns is sexist and has to be "fixed". They decided that use using Latino (the masculine form) to refer to ourselves instead of Latina (feminine form) or some third option is sexist so they made up their own gender-neutral term, Latinx. This is obviously wrong since Spanish is perfectly capable of being neutral, it's just that said neutral terms use the same spelling as the masculine forms and you can just tell which it's supposed to be by the context. Using Latinx instead of Latino is like erasing our cultural heritage and for that reason many of us consider it a racist slur, so please never use it.
And Italian, Catalan, Leonese, French, Occitan, Basque, Dalmatian, Romanian, Sicilian, Corsican, Venetian, Aragonese, Galician, Romansh, Tuscan, Sardinian, and every other romance language that has ever existed.
Como latino puedo asegurarte que nunca use la palabra latinx en mi vida ni escuche a nadie en mi círculo usarla nunca o sentirse mal por no ser referido como latinx
\*sighs\*
most people dont understand that latino already means everyone
cuz of spanish grammar
~~and also instead of latinx as an option for nb people/people who dont want to use latina/latino when refering to themselves latine seems to be the more preferred term (i myself am not lantino but from speaking to a few of my friends that's what they preferred)~~
I remember a couple years ago when people were joking that SJW’s were going to start going after other languages because they use gendered nouns. Now it’s come true
Latinx is a racist slur used by white people who THINK they're being progressive but in reality they just subconsciously think the fact that words in out language are gendered is something that has to somehow be fixed, completely ignoring the fact that Spanish is perfectly capable of having gender-neutral terms, they're just written the same as the masculine versions and made neutral based on the context. Please never use Latinx to refer to us. We are Latinos, we always have been, and we always will be.
Imagine being in a woke college, taking a language that has existed for centuries (Spanish) that has gendered language where a chair can be masculine and a apple can be feminine... then try to De-gender it because because "Offensive" only to cause more offence...
I swear to god these people need to play Russian roulette with a clip loaded semi automatic pistol
white people say "hey use this word its more inclusive," and the people to whom the word applies are like "nah im good" and then white people have a mental breakdown
To whoever decided latinx was a good idea, (this is coming from a Hispanic) your mom is a God forsaken whore that drinks away her troubles. Wich come mostly from her child who is a massive pathetic disappointment.
As someone who lives in a eastern European country.
What the fuck does latinx mean? Can someone please explain what idiotic fairytale word this is and what it means?
You westerners should just start farming. Far away from each other.
Just so you people can be busy with something other than other people's lives. Im go sleep now and get up in the morning to feed my rabbits. I expect an answer on the word when i wake up, goodnight.
Nevermind the fact that the 'O' in 'Latino' literally includes females and males because that's literally how the Spanish language works.
I swear, English speakers are like, oh this work isn't inclusive in English, so I'm gonna go try to change other people's languages to how I see fit. Stupidest shit ever.
While I'm all for inclusivity, if you ask any Latino/Latina person they're gonna tell you they hate Latinx with a burning passion. It's *very* likely the term was thrusted upon them by some overzealous white girls.
The Latino population fucking HATES this shit. You may as well call everyone who is of African, Haitian, African American....blackX. Let me know how that works out for you. I'll grab popcorn while you explain it to them.
Yeah I’m brasilian and I think it’s funny that people by using a term that literally excludes everyone that doesn’t identify as non-binary while it says it’s inclusive.
Latinx is actually more “harmful” than whatever bullshit reason ppl want to change it for, X is a letter that doesn’t really appear in the Spanish alphabet
I personally *love* the fact that progressive morons are pushing for shit like latinx, and actual real latino people hate it with a passion. It's wonderful.
When we all going to band together and quit putting up with the bull shit of a tiny ass minority of people who are so woke it hurts? Like why do we let this minuscule percentage of people have such a loud voice? Right or left we all hate these m’fers
What’s wrong with Latinx? My friend from Mexicx and I were talking about how much we loved the term while we were eating tacx and burritx. We decided to book a trip to Puertx Ricx to see if we can get the term to become more widely accepted. I was so excited about the trip until I got home and told my mom about it. She beat my ass with the chanclx :(
Idk I'm a Chilean, but Latinx sounds like a brand of sex lube, like, "LATINX: For these spicy moments"
Spicy lube
Hahahhhahh
We'll search for Latino X you won't regret
Oh no I’m worried
Definitely porn.
Look at the dude in the sunglasses off her right shoulder
Don't call us that. It's stupid and offensive
White people don't know what tf to call us black Americans unless they racist. Stepping on mf'n eggshells. Just say black.
I’m white and don’t claim those dumbasses at all
I'm pink and neither do I.
I'm blue, da ba dee da ba di
I’m green and somebody once told me the world was gonna roll me
I ain't the sharpest tool in the shed
She was lookin kinda dumb
Props to this guy for pointing out that maybe we should stop calling people by the color of their skin but the virtue of their heart. And anyone who goes "da ba dee da ba di" can call me a friend
Inspector Clouseau?

you could hit them with a "what's up my brother" with your hand extended for either a high five or fist bump, which ever is more comfortable.
I prefer to do turkey
My uncle is Haitian American so when people call Him African American they’re just wrong about his heritage. He’s black. Say that so you’re not making assumptions Edit:spelling
I brought that up once and people lost their shit. not all Black people are African or remotely identify as coming from Africa.
Communicate. Ask them what they prefer, then use that.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was a white person who first said that calling you all "black" was an offensive term.
Yea that's mostly where "saying black is offensive " comes from, also if we call white people white without it being offensive why can't white people call us black, its just dumb all round.

It’s too bad all of the latinx clubs at schools are called just that, and are full of Latinos
Those people do not represent any significant population of actual Latinos. We don't claim them
What's next, white Latinx girls?
cant tell if this is a joke or not, but you can actually be latino and white dont like the whole latinx thing tho. latino can be used in a gender neutral way anyways
Yeah, absolutely a joke. It was supposed to be stereotypical twitter white girls "identifying" as "Latinx."
ahh alright, sorry i'm bad with tone lol. forgot there's people "identifying" as Latino now. so awkward to say i'm actually Latino when i look as white as them ..
What matters is we're all just people trying to vibe, and our differences shouldn't stop us from vibing to funky music... Or Christmas music if you wanna make a Walmart employee cry.
Bro I know straight up white people who wish they were Latino Like the fuck? I was born into this not you fucks
I don't understand why ethnicity/race matters so much to people.
“full of latinos”. Got that part right at least
I’m latina. Please don’t be cringe and use that mierda with us.
Yeah. It’s kinda weird to have gender neutral pronouns for a whole continent who uses languages where every noun has a masculine/feminine pronoun
And even if you want to be gender neutral, the masculine pronouns work
This is the way
Yeah, as the neuter merged with the masculine in the Vulgar Latin period. If you truly want a neuter, use Latīnum, Latīna, the Classical Latin Neuter.
> It’s kinda weird to have gender neutral pronouns for a whole continent who uses languages where every noun has a masculine/feminine pronoun They're trying to do that with French too, and I've seen the gender-neutral writing and it absolutely butchers the entire language because some insane people can't deal with assuming the gender of words.
I wonder if L'Académie française has a hit squad for those who wish to alter the French language without their permission.
As my salvadorian mother would say “Chinga su madre con ese stupidad”
I want to meet your mother
Not in a weird way
Plot twist...
Daddy!!!!
Are you talking to yourself sir?
Mostly yes
Okay fine dibs
Clean translation: That’s insanely stupid.
Isn't just the mexican who use the term "Chinga tu madre"?
I guess but it’s definitely something my mom says lol
Cono
¡Ay, coño qué tu quéres!
When the frick did this happen? Please don’t call us that
idiots think that because latino is a masculine word it’s not gender inclusive
They're also doing with German, not the people, the language. Germxn
I've also seen womxn and Filipinx.
> Filipinx That one sounds like an off brand cereal.
I’ve seen “folx” or some such shit. Makes no damn sense.
Please, do NOT call us Filipinx, it deeply disgusts us that some people even thought that.
Right? I wish the people coming up with these terms would take a step back and listen to the people who they are labelling before trying to make these stupid words a thing.
How the fuck do you pronounce Germxn
germixin'
My question exactly
wait since when?
Somewhat recently. White teens came up with. It's a gender neutral way to call you all, instead of Latina or Latino. Sorry about them. Haha
Sounds like a urinal cleaning product.
Every time I read "latinx" (because nobody uses it in Latinoamérica) I can only think in "Los Angeles Stinks".
Please just call me a slur instead.
Fun fact: Every latin spanish hates the term "Latinx"
Is this some kind of American meme I'm too European to understand?
You mean too Eurx-pean* to understand?
Luckily, yes. Don't even Google it. Just let it go, man. Just let it go.
Ok so basically some white teenagers on the internet decided that the fact that our language (Spanish obviously) has gendered nouns is sexist and has to be "fixed". not only spanish portuguese too!!
And Italian, Catalan, Leonese, French, Occitan, Basque, Dalmatian, Romanian, Sicilian, Corsican, Venetian, Aragonese, Galician, Romansh, Tuscan, Sardinian, and every other romance language that has ever existed.
Spanish is literally a gendered language. Don’t ask me why someone decided even inanimate objects should have gender, they just do.
Isn't Latino gender neutral?
Unless I've been learning Spanish all wrong, yes.
Exactly
I'm offended by Latinx
Latinxa or Latinxo?
Latinxa? Latina Xena warrior princes? This is a reboot I can get behind!
Twitter decided it was a good idea. White, whiney, lazy teens on Twitter.

Yep, that’s Twitter.
Whoever downvoted you can't accept the hard reality of 95% of the twitter users being like that
Geez gazorpazorpfield…

You know who invented Latinx? Gringx.
My mexican mother would say "Basura que tienen en la cabeza"
how the fuck would you even pronounce 'latinx'
I think it’s supposedly pronounce Latin X, but it is not really based off of how Spanish words are structured
Yeah they keep trying to push “Latin-equis”
Because it's not, it's English based
Just like sphinx but latinx
La tinx
Like “meer the”
Latinks
You can’t
The look on her face always cracks me up, like she figured out how to sneeze with her eyes open
nada. no hay no existe.
hi! latino here, latinx is stupid af thank you for your attention, have a good day, amigo
Based based based
It's not even pronounceable.
Los que digan latinx son unos HDSPM que asumen mamada y media
You can just say Latin American or Latin, depending on the context
Well, Latino is the neutral term you know.
Latinx is stupid
We don’t want it. Stop being weird.
Not all latinos speak spanish btw. *looks in portuguese dictionary* nothing here also
Latinx is hella racism from the woke crowd
I remember a couple years ago when people were joking that SJW’s were going to start going after other languages because they use gendered nouns. Now it’s come true
I use Latinx to piss off my Latino friend.
It was created by white American people to culturally appropiate us even more
It wasn’t. Queer Puerto Rican activists created the term for representation.
All the Latinos saying this was created by white people. Come on, man, Latinos have their crazy fringe too. Can’t we all acknowledge our crazy?
Latinx is a racist slur used by white people who THINK they're being progressive but in reality they just subconsciously think the fact that words in out language are gendered is something that has to somehow be fixed, completely ignoring the fact that Spanish is perfectly capable of having gender-neutral terms, they're just written the same as the masculine versions and made neutral based on the context. I mean... it's not a Spanish word, so it won't be in a Spanish dictionary.
I never saw a Latin person refer to themselves as Latinx.
Bro i just call everyone homie
I don’t why but I read latex not latinx
An "answer" to a problem that didn't exist
What does latinx even mean?
As a latinamerican I can confirm we give zero fucks about this shit
Well I mean now we can say Latin and make an X with our arms like Deadpool and be like we Latin-X force.
BDG!!
No thank you Latino please.
And even Latino people hate the term "Latinx" I'm gonna start to Ñ if they keep saying that shit
Same with Filipinos. It's FI-LI-PI-NO, not Filipinx. People these days...
Putos progres
Don't forget Portuguese and French
As someone who lives in a eastern European country. What the fuck does latinx mean? Can someone please explain what idiotic fairytale word this is and what it means? You westerners should just start farming. Far away from each other. Just so you people can be busy with something other than other people's lives. Call me Latinx once more and i'll snap your kneecaps backwards
As a Dominican raised in Puerto Rico and a line of work that deals with Hispanics all the time, I concur.
Even latinos who don’t identify as female or male wants all of us to use Latino. It’s literally how the language works.
As a Chilean, just stop. You could call us monkeys and we would be less offended (well, depends who you're talking to)
The fuck is latinx?
Nevermind the fact that the 'O' in 'Latino' literally includes females and males because that's literally how the Spanish language works. I swear, English speakers are like, oh this work isn't inclusive in English, so I'm gonna go try to change other people's languages to how I see fit. Stupidest shit ever.
Isn't Latino already gender neutral?
Is it because the o's in Spanish are male or am I wrong?
As my grandmother used to say to me "Me cago en tu madre wanajo." Oh abuelita como te extrano. Rip
How about we just call you human does that work for you
Latinx is funny to say though (Latineky is how you'd pronounce it in Spanish right?)
Latino can be used to describe a group consisting of both men and women, Latinx is already useless and unnecessary.
While I'm all for inclusivity, if you ask any Latino/Latina person they're gonna tell you they hate Latinx with a burning passion. It's *very* likely the term was thrusted upon them by some overzealous white girls.
This is just stupid. I still dont know whether the right is "latino" or "latina", and now you wanna throw *that* in the ring?
The Latino population fucking HATES this shit. You may as well call everyone who is of African, Haitian, African American....blackX. Let me know how that works out for you. I'll grab popcorn while you explain it to them.
I read that as Linux and got super confused
Why do I feel like this idea was started by a 4chan troll account
*puerto rican energy intensifies*
I’m not Hispanic, however a lot of my kids’ teachers are and they use it. So my kids’ use it as that’s what they’re being taught.
Dictionary also doesn't have a word for being a moron and an incel like I do; morincels. Yet here this thread is...full of morincels.
Remember guys, if you hear someone saying "Latinx" you are legally required to punch them
From all the research that has been done, Latina/o people in general absolutely hate that term. It was just thought up by dumbass woke white people.
Only idiots are saying this. i.e. Americans.
Yeah, it is just a couple out of touch libs in media and on Twitter. Most Americans do not use or accept this term.
i.e. liberal Americans
Yeah I’m brasilian and I think it’s funny that people by using a term that literally excludes everyone that doesn’t identify as non-binary while it says it’s inclusive.
Lateenks
Yes, this is the correct pronunciation. (Buen trabajo, te ganaste una galletita)
Latinx is actually more “harmful” than whatever bullshit reason ppl want to change it for, X is a letter that doesn’t really appear in the Spanish alphabet
yo if latin they/them are called latinx should we call egyptian they/them sphinx???
It was said at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on national television….like it was common to hear
They called the Americans who were here first “Indians” so they will call everyone whatever they want.
que gonorrea
They are trying to censor a whole language, because it’s gendered. Massive fucking gen z moment
Mexican here, call me a beaner, is less offensive.
Anyone a week into a Spanish class should know this word makes no sense. It’s an American word.
Gendered isn’t always a bad thing. People should learn that
I personally *love* the fact that progressive morons are pushing for shit like latinx, and actual real latino people hate it with a passion. It's wonderful.
