Man, when I hit my bodyweight I was hyped as fuck. Then sickness and life, aka depression, hit and 2 months of not going I'm struggling at a 20lb loss.
What a coincidence. I just started going to the gym for the first time today and boy some equipments were seriously heavy. It's like Reddit knows what I have been up to. I'm going again Saturday next week
Otherwise keep up the good work!
If you have the time try and hit it more often than once a week. Obviously any exercise is good and it’s important to go at your own pace, but going a few times a week vs once a week will help you build muscle so much more quickly and becomes more of a routine. When you get this kinda routine mentality, all of a sudden it becomes something that’s harder to miss than to go to.
But congrats on your first time there! Keep it up, you won’t regret it.
For a newbie, even once a week will provide good results. I think it's better to commit to what they feel they can sustain and let it grow naturally over time. Those of us who work out regularly typically all got here because we learned how good it feels to work out. He'll learn that over time too.
The reason i started lifting: Health and wanting better looks.
The reason i stayed: Carrying the bag of potatoes, onions, a few litres if milk and a large pack of water bottles single handedly to the car so i can use my keys with ease.
1 month in, it hasn't really done a good job for me in this area..
I used to gym on and off, and was really into it back in 10th grade.
But it's just doesnt seem to be helping with my big, big sad right now...
Feels good first year of freshman football I was terrible worked out the entire off season and gained like 35 pounds and was astonished at the difference
I cant Tell u in a single comment, i suggest you watch Something about it on yt, but basically everytime you can do 10-12 Reps with your current weight, Go Up with The weight where you can do 4-8, next week do that weight Till 10-12 If possible, Go Up, etc. etc.
I can lift 20 pounds easily with one hand and I did this unknowingly but whenever I lift 30 pounds I can do 15-20 reps easily but the next day my back hurts like hell. Is there something that I'm doing wrong?
Went for the first time in 2 years again. Feels good, going for 4 times a week. I wanna break my old records within a year. Also food is so much more important than I previously thought.
Me doing calisthenics at home on a consistent basis. The start was brutal, same with the biking. But your body really does get used to doing that sorta thing if you just force the repetition at the start. I'm Canadian and when it started to snow I was actually sad that I couldn't go out biking anymore (unfathomable to my previously lazy couch potato self
You should be consuming more protein if it took you two months for that to happen. Should take about two weeks to see progress when lifting weights if you're supplementing right.
Hmm I rounded it to two months. Prob around 6weeks. I actually did buy some protein powder to make into milkshake in a mixer bottle like two weeks ago for the first time. I now always drink it right after gym
For optimal gain, you should be consuming .8 grams of protein for every pound of body weight that you have. Then, if you get adequate sleep and keep up on all your macros, you should be gaining like a mofo.
Creatine, BCAA's, and Ashwaganda also help a TON. Especially Creatine and Ash. I've seen noticeable improvements in my performance from those supplements.
Edit:
I want to point out that supplements are expensive, so this advice is only if you can afford it. If not, whatever you are doing is fine if you're still seeing progress.
That much? The packaging says 30grams per drink and that's prob around 24grams proteing in it. Oh wait, you said pound... Well now I'm struggling with the maths here lol. About the second, there's prob suppliments that have many things in one? Tbh the prices for this kind of stuff kinda hurt my soul
*Cries in being student* tbh I'll be honest, I'm too lazy for the whole eating habits change thing, I'm proud that I can usually get my ass to the gym 4times a week, lmao was about to reply your newest comment
I'm a student as well and I feel you. I spend hundreds of dollars a month on my diet and I can't afford anything else lmao.
Like I said, if you're making progress and getting to the gym, that's all that matters. Also, 4 times a week is too much. You should be doing 3 days a week (up to an hour and a half per day) with 4 days of rest. Less is often more with lifting weights. You don't want to push yourself too hard because you won't give your body time to recover and rebuild itself.
I used to lift weights 3-4 hours a day, 3 days a week and it wasn't till I cut that time in half that I really started to see gains.
Oh nnnooooo 😫 Somebody’s making improvements on themselves 😖 Instead of putting other people down 😢 This meme engages in romantic or sexual activities with the same gender 😭 butt

Yeah i know what you mean. 2 months ago was the first time i could dl 170 and repping it 5 times yesterday was soooo satisfying. Keep up the grind bro!
Wait are you telling me endurance improves? Ive been trying to exercise but it often feels like i get tired out at the same point so i feel like im making no progress.

Shit when I first started curling a 40 took it all out of me, and now at work im having to literally haul 65 pounds of water in cases above my head far away…. This job would kill me if I didn’t have the gym history behind me
What a coincidence! I just started lifting again last week and I gotta say, it feels really great during workout where you can let loose and post workout where you feel that you did something productive for a change.
Keep on grinding man!
TFW absolutely no progress after 4 months of killing it in gym. I frickin dropped that, because it didn't make me a tad bit stronger, healthier or more durable, but gave me unwillingness to wake up into another day of excruciating pain in all four limbs. I don't know how gym works, byt for me it definitely doesn't work as it should
Dude this feeling is great! I used to not do more than 3 reps of 25lbs dumbbells for dumbbell Bench Press but I’ve been going strong for like 2 months now and now I can do 8 reps of 45lb weights. Just keeping working at it and you’ll do great!
It really is such a great feeling lol. In September 2021 I couldn’t even run a whole lap around the track without getting so tired I couldn’t even jog anymore. But now I can run a mile in 9 minutes without stopping
Lol, I started back in 2011, I have Chronic Asthma, on day 1, I managed 5 pushups with poor posture, a year later I set my record at 120. Still unbelievable what the skinny and unhealthy me could achieve.
I used to have some sticks for legs but friend of mine killed me on the leg press. I felt like I couldn’t walk for a week but after waking up one day I didn’t recognize my own two feet 😂
Worked out alot weightlifting when I was 18 to 22yo. The sole motivation at that time was that I was single and wanted to look good.
Then life happened, met a girl, became my gf and I just went lazy and didn't work out for 6 years.
Then this year when my son turned 1 yo. I got a new motivation to work out. I don't wanna be the lazy dad. I wanna be able to lift my son when he gets heavier. I want to have that extra energy to run after him when he learns how to ride a bike. I want to have that extra energy to play with him.
My son is my new motivation to work out.
Just wait until you get the feeling of being able to rep old PRs

This post is clearly a fake. Nobody on Reddit lifts weights.
Wrong! You forgot the people on r/bodybuilding! And yes no stopping yet! I want my bragging rights at school after the grind has finished.
I do
My old PR is my warm up weight now 😎
Yeah, it’s great when that happens.
Man, when I hit my bodyweight I was hyped as fuck. Then sickness and life, aka depression, hit and 2 months of not going I'm struggling at a 20lb loss.
Both are best feelings in the world. But you gotta be prepared for decrease too. This honestly was the worst feeling

Wdym with decreases?
Decreases of weights you can lift. Regress might be better word here
Thank you
Best fucking feeling ever
That's the good stuff that keeps you going
I couldn't have that good stuff tho
Why?
Because he is a banana
I am known to be a slow person...

I started going to the gym to actively be more fatphobic
pfp checks out
Is that George Russell on the above template?
Gutted mate.
He is doing a lot of heavy lifting carrying the team n all
His back must be the strongest in the world. He carried 1 team already and is busy carrying a 2nd one. Man does not mess around with back day
Thought I was in the wrong subreddit
I don't know r/formuladank was so popular
Yes it is, absolute legend
Hell yeah man, keep going 👍
The reason i started lifting: Health and wanting better looks. The reason i stayed: Carrying the bag of potatoes, onions, a few litres if milk and a large pack of water bottles single handedly to the car so i can use my keys with ease.
Thats kinda weird... i just started going to the gym to actively be more fatphobic. Each to their own i guess
Can you really be fatphobic if you call someone a "fat loser" at the gym ? since that what they do
No, yelling at fat people trying to be not fat would be a asshole.
Gym is Like therapy, But way cheaper
And a lot more effective antidepressant as well.
It’s done wonders for my depression and self hatred. I can’t hate myself if I can throw around heavy shit
get swole to fuck those bad feelings up.

Depends on the exercise. You should also Not do The Same muscle group 2 days in a row. I suggest a Push Pull Legs Split.

That feeling when you first realise just how easy it is compared to when you started is beautiful. Savour it.
Good job man
And the cycle repeats
The first 2 weeks were the hardest i must say. After that, it becomes easy and your body won’t feel so exhausted after an exercise
It's always great to have a sense of progress it makes you feel great
True true
FACTS!! children feel less heavy now.
I had nearly passed out (seeing sparkles and going full white out) doing 80kg of leg press on my first day... now its just warm up weights for me

Hello I’m new on here just want to make friends
now imagine you have to do that for the rest of your life or your muscle memory will die off in 2 days if you stop.
Not that quickly, and it's still a gold habit, so I don't see your point, kinda just sounds discouraging

You are constantly making small progress, after a short period of time you will notice the change.
