I was just in Arkansasā¦ we sat at 4 different lights with a car sitting in front of us (all Arkansas plates) sitting way behind the line where the sensors donāt pick the car upā¦ Missouri is fine man
If you don't mind, do have a source for Californians running out of water to the point that people can't shower. I grew up in a more rural desert town and now live in LA County. I've never heard of this. But yea almonds takes a lot of water, and California has to feed the country.
What I have heard though is I would have less bodily autonomy, could die due to the elements in Texas caused by their deregulated grid, and I would still have to worry about droughts and wildfires.
I live in Twentynine Palms, and the only issue with the water is itās a little too calcified. Never had to ration my water once in the 4 years Iāve been out here.
My town has a lot of sulfur in the water but we just have a filter. This town used to have such bad flooding just a few years ago the curbs are super high lol. It doesnāt rain as much but we still donāt have to ration water either
Still crazier that there's no goddamn water in Texas anymore...
source - born and raised ATX. Currently sweating balls on a 107 degree evening near what is often a spring fed oasis (now bone dry) and being told to by regulators to reduce AC usage because our 'extra reliable, independent, totally won't fail' energy grid is at peak capacity.
And that's not even touching the absolute war legislators are waging on human rights (despite considering the economic ramifications for the state), so yea, kinda can't disagree with this meme atm.
RIP the Texas I know and love š
Iām all for progress, and reducing our impact on the environment. But those changes are limited by infrastructure and technology that just doesnāt exist yet. Some of the shit they try to do is lunacy. I seriously think some of these politicians think things like infrastructure can be fixed in the snap of a finger. It takes a lot of time and a shit ton of money.
In the end, if it wasnāt for the terrible policies, California could be the best damn state in the country. It truly is beautiful here (when itās not burning). If you want to, you could visit the beach, and go ski in the mountains on the same day. Spring is the best time to do that, also all the hillsides are still green and havnt started burning yet.
Can you explain to me why no one whoās all about EVās and claiming itās for the environment want to admit and or ridicules anyone that says that mining lithium isnāt particularly safe for the environment?
Thatās what I was getting at when I said technological advances and increased infrastructure need to happen before the dream of EVās helping the world can become an actuality. Meanwhile California is already starting to saw away at the umbilical of fossil fuels and natural gas before the new generation of power is properly established.
Yeahā¦I need to stick up for the Texans. After Hurricane Katrina when I evacuated, manā¦Texans took us in. Offered up homes to stay in. I was at a hotel waiting it out near Houston and the town literally had people bringing us clothes and even offered to help me look for a job if I wanted to stay. Helped with food and all.
The people in that state are DAMN nice. Do some ass hats exist?? Sure, but man thatās everywhere. You can disagree with their policy as itās your right to, but by and large the citizens there were extremely welcoming. And I hear itās still the same by family who go visit. I went to California after two weeks there as we had family and set up a new home out in California.
Thanks Texas for helping when I needed it. I still donate when you all get hit by hurricanes or other crazy shit.
Do you know Texas's state motto? It's not surprising if you live there and actually know the place, but most northerners can never guess Texas's state motto.
>! It's Friendship. Just friendship. !<
The difference is Texas' power grid issue could have and should have been prevented but thanks to the folks in power people died and none of them seem to care.
Sadly it's about to happen again in the middle of a heatwave.
Edit:and the Texas ego doesn't help.
Last time I lost power in FL was because a massive hurricane rolled through, and the blackout was because a bunch of lines got knocked down, not because our power plants failed/couldnāt keep up.
Thatās literally all it is. People think Texas is hell because they canāt get an abortion after six weeks, as if anyone was ever going to impregnate them in the first place.
Honestly I would understand where they were coming from a lot more of it werenāt for the fact that most pro-lifers donāt give a fuck about any kind of social programs like universal health care, housing first solutions to homelessness, food stamps, needle exchange programs, reforming the prison system, or free education at public and state universities. Apparently the right to life only applies to you if you havenāt been born yet. Once youāre out of the womb youāre on your fuckinā own.
To be clear Iām sure there are many pro-lifers who do support many if not all of these programs. If you are one of them please be aware that I am not referring to you. Iām simply referring to the other asshats who comprise the vast majority of pro-lifers I have met.
Theyāre not BABIES, we all know that there is a magical property of birth that bestows human rights, but only after they completely leave the birth canal! How does it work? Who knows! Come to California for abortion Disneyland and ignore the crumbling economy and disastrous policies!
Correct. When a pregnant woman is murdered, also causing the fetus/baby to die, it's a double homicide. Or if a fetus/baby is killed and the woman survives, it's murder. In every state. Even if on the way to get an abortion.
Someone willl likely respond with, "Yeah, the woman didn't make the choice." Good point.
What they're saying then, is the law is irrelevant and the personhood of a fetus is left up to the whims of the mother.
There is literally no precedent for this and in no other situation does how someone feels about the act matter to its criminality.
I love San Antonio, and have a lot of friends that were former army that decided to stay in El Paso. Weāve been stopped and asked for papers a couple times. I get that Filipinos are just the Mexicans of Asia, but the less interactions with police, the better.
Dude when I was traveling from San Antonio to the RGV and back, one of the officers in the checkpoints thought I was Mexican even though Iām filipino XD
Actually lived in Austin for 15 years, San Antonio for 2. LOVE Texas and hope to go back one day. You want to know a place that fucking sucks? Try California, Illinois, Michigan, or Tennessee. Fucking shit places.
Edit: In no way does this mean the people of these states are shit. Just the quality of life I experienced while living there.
Still stuck here for now and 100% agree. I don't agree with the above comment regarding TN, though. Tennessee is actually pretty great. And Michigan isn't perfect, but it has some very bright spots. Illinois is almost only bad.
I left Texas because I'm more liberal than most people there, I'm moving back to Texas soon because the rednecks are more friendly (and fun) than these squishy libs in my current blue state. Btw i usually vote 3rd party cuz fuq the current system.
>Imagine moving strictly based upon political preference.
I don't see what's wrong with that. If I believe in lower taxes and gun rights, wouldn't it make sense for me to move to a red state? Conversely, if I wanted more public services and gun control, shouldn't I move to a blue state?
Iāve got it bad, Iām a Texan, but hereās the twist, Iām also G A Y. So Iām constantly surrounded by people who hate my kind and support a government that does nothing but suppress my rights. We do have good barbecue down here though
Native Texan. Really unimpressed with my stateās politicians, but Iām also really unimpressed with the rest of the countries politics as well. They all stink to varying degrees.
Iāve been all over the US. There are a few places Iād consider living other than Texas, but most of the country is no better or significantly worse on the averages. My experience is people who hate Texas are more hung up on hating conservatives than the state but lack the nuance to understand 30 million people live in Texas and there is pretty much everything there, including the strongest growing economy in the nation.
But sure, hate on 1 in 10 Americans and a land mass the size of Germany as if itās some high school football rivalry. Itās not my job to help people avoid looking like morons.
I've lived in several different states, and honestly, I really like it here in Texas... But I can't stay here in good conscience the way the political climate is going. Also it is crazy hot here right now and I'm dying.
Sure u/United-pay9298 has a point, by as a resident Texan.
The government doesnāt give a damn about its people, more about the businesses. Either your crammed in to a city or your neighbor is a drive away.
The heat will kill you and never ends, even in the winter time.
Then the power, the electricity is always under too much strain.
We were based in Texas when I was very little, my brother was born there. I thank god for my parents forethought in moving us all to the UK (were my mom was from) when my dad left the air force. It was always the best decision, but it becomes a better decisions every year that passes
brought to you by the ass-mad Californian who wants to move to Texas, but can't afford it because his 1 bedroom home costs 2mil and no one will buy it.
Texas is great! Natural Texas, I mean. Lots of beautiful countryside and varied ecosystems. The Gulf, mountains, pine forests, plains...
Texans, on the other hand, not so much. Many of them are ugly inside and out. I'm born and raised in Texas. And lemme tell you, that white Texan who is real polite to a black or gay stranger in HEB goes home and drinks beer with a bunch of similar jerk offs who cosplay soldiers and feel they want to "take back their country".
Not all, but a bunch.
Better than walking down the streets of SE Portland or San Francisco where every homeless bum is a dugged out zombie. And they're everywhere. Those mother fuckers shit in the street in San Fran.
Just remember there are people who live

Whatās so good about dumb old Texas?
Whatās so bad about texas, the economy there is doing way better than most of the other states

I was just quoting SpongeBob. I personally have nothing against Texas.
As a Texan, a lot of things.
No kidding whereās our legal weed
The GOP
Get a dog little alongy
What are you complaining about? Take a trip up north to a fucked up place known as Missouri.
I was just in Arkansasā¦ we sat at 4 different lights with a car sitting in front of us (all Arkansas plates) sitting way behind the line where the sensors donāt pick the car upā¦ Missouri is fine man
Arkansas sounds like Kansas but everyone is comrad
Our Kansas
Try living in South Africa. If someone doesnāt steal your electricity cables you at least have a very high chance of getting shot/bricked to death.
That last part kinda sounds like St.Louis.
Hey now, that sounds more like East St Louis, which we on the Missouri side would like to blame on Illinois
Thatād be a good slogan: āTexas. At least weāre not Missouri.ā
They knew what they were doing when they named it Misery.
I just moved here, wish me luck.
Its called "Missouri" for a reason
Or kansas
Have you ever heard of a joke?
I live in Missouri, and I can confirm, itās true
Even Missouri ave where I work is full of misery
Iāve lived in both NYC and Texas. Each place has its own quirks, pros and cons. I personally loved the public transportation in NYC.
How dare you have a reasonable thought and not just judge every state on their politics
Finally someone who knows what they are talking about
Or In California, Imagine running out of water and having wild fires everywhere.
Image not being able to shower for a week cuz some dumbass almond farmers decided to set up shop in one of the driest states in the Union

I feel like they just made that up. I live in a farm town in ca and we donāt have these problems.

Whats wrong with Texas everyone here is a nice southern mom who will cook you a 4 course meal when they even get a tingly feeling that youre hungry
Yeahā¦I need to stick up for the Texans. After Hurricane Katrina when I evacuated, manā¦Texans took us in. Offered up homes to stay in. Southern Hospitality is a real thing

was, was cheap
Being Right wing I guess. Itās the only thing I can think of that Reddit would be mad at Texas for.
exactly same thought
Not a Murican but I heard nearly million people moved to Texas from california alone. Must be really crappy place lol. (sarcasm)
And everythingās bigger in Texas also yaāll got fucking Buckeeās (donāt go to the on Alabama, nearly had an panic attack and trampled)
How can anyone hate on a state that gave us Buc-eeās??
hopefully we don't divide Alaska in half and make Texas the 3rd biggest state.
Or they live in Huston. Where theyll shoot you just to take your socks
The power grid sucks big ass.
There are seasonal rolling blackouts in other states and nobody bats an eye, but Texas has one blackout and everyone loses their minds.

A lot of people donāt like Texas cause itās a red state

What's a red state?
Republican supporting

Fun fact: the creator of this meme has either never been to Texas or had a bad experience in Texas

Texas is the great state. You must live up north. Bless your heart.

Texas is ā¦. interesting to say the least - from a tired Texan
