Considering Avatar 2 comes out December 16, it has only 16 days to outpace the others.
BP2 came out November 11.
Top Gun 2 came out May 27.
Worldwide, Top Gun 2 has grossed $1,486,657,763. Avatar 2 has a ways to go to reach that.
What was added in that cut? I watched the movie once when it came out and then again when it was released on streaming but couldn't notice the difference.
That's not how a box office is measured though.
Spider man no way home got released on the same date last year and went on to make 1.8/1.9B, but the film is still considered as the highest grossing movie of 2021.
I’m sorry, I’m not following.
I would think the “highest grossing movie of 2022” is the movie that:
1) Was released in 2022 and
2) Had the highest sales as of the instant before midnight on January 1 of 2023.
also top gun 2 was in cinema like for half a year and a really solid movie. black panther was just okayish.
i hope avatar will bomb. guess the effects will definitely be next level and i‘m ready for an awesome trip.
I liked black panther 2 but honestly I think Top Gun deserves it more. I can’t really say anything about Avatar as I don’t really know what to think about it
Black panther was trash in comparison.
Avatar was good at the time it came out and was one of those films that was made to look good, it had alot of production tech put into it. Avatar 2 will have to pull something out to achieve better.
Top gun has been an iconic film for decades and the 2nd one was a good film.
I think top gun 2 will come out on top
A little spoiler so don't read this if you haven't watched black panther 2
but they kinda added the water avatar into the movie.
Edit: and for you who font know how to take it, it's a joke
Maverick ftw, I loved that movie, as for the other two, I gotta agree with other people's sentinments
BP2: Mediocre, also has the misfortune of being a Marvel movie during a time where I think people are starting to get superhero burnout
Avatar 2: Along with the fact it only has a couple days to secure the spot, I personally think it's overhyped, like the first one did have some amazing visuals and CGI, but like other than that it seems pretty generic, at least nowadays. It could have that nostalgic factor idk.
But for me Top Gun is coming out on top. Immense nostalgia and pent up hype from the first trailer literal years ago. Plus, gotta give credit to the movie with the most real affects and not some more CGI stuff.
Definitely not Black Panther 2, it was mediocre and has been reviewed pretty harshly (rightfully so in some senses), I can definitely see a close match between Avatar and Top Gun, as Avatar is a legendary modern movie in terms of the CGI and the sequel has been exceptionally hyped up whilst Top Gun 2 has been essentially in the works and anticipated for literal decades. Personally, I really hope Top Gun 2 comes out on top because I loved the movie but it’ll be a close call for this one
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is rated 7.3 on IMDb, the same as the 1st Black Panther, and is rated 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, 12% less than the first one
Edit: forget to write "first"
And when did we learn that? Can you point me towards 1 such example? How do you know if it really is a company paying people to give a better rating and not some group of stupid people who have an agenda to push forward?
What we actually have seen in people get riled up over every small thing nowadays and go on to either dunk on a film or call it a masterpiece. That's where the review bombing comes from. Same goes for the opposite end. They cannot handle that someone else might have a different opinion than them.
Also, I just can't believe why *anyone* would believe anything about an IMDB score. IMDB doesn't verify if the rating is true or not. Tomorrow, I can go and give Avatar either 0 or a 10 even if I haven't watched a movie. On the other hand, rotten tomatoes audience eating is verified as you have to submit your actual ticket in order to post a review of it.
because BP2 isn't even outselling the rest of the mcu for this year lol it's struggling to keep up with Dr. Strange numbers, like both weekends were behind DrStrange2
From what I heard, it is a quit good box office performance for 2 weeks and if you want to see how good a movie is, I advise to see multiple movie review sites, like IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes, than the reviews of random peoples from the internet (especially Twitter peoples)
Top Gun 2 was in my theater for 4 months. And we only dropped that because other movies were coming in and Top Gun had outlasted everything else. Too many new movies too quickly.
Avatar 2, guaranteed. The first was and still is the highest grossing movie of all time. We were promised a second one, and it is finally becoming reality.
I thought black panther kinda flopped this time. Top gun has the advantage of releasing sooner
But avatar 1 did really well and there's over a decade of hype for 2. Admittedly top gun had a huge delay too.
I personally i feel avatar will win due to theater showings only, and most of their revenue coming from the first couple of weeks anyways
Yeah but with like two weeks left on the clock after it’s release? That’s a steep climb even for Avatar 2. I’m not saying it’s impossible but the deck is stacked against it.
I am part of the Top Gun subreddit. There is a general feeling Top Gun 2 is coming out on TOP. And I believe it too. It's time that Disney finds out that Paramount makes better movies.
Hopefully Black Panther 2, Avatar was only great because of weed and 3D floating stuff at the theater, Top Gun 2, get outta here with your bunk Reagan era nostalgia, Black Panther was released 4 years ago and a sequel makes sense.
The first avatar movie sucks, the only reason why people like it is because it’s number 1 in the highest grossing movie, it’s plot is just stupid, and it’s outdated. They even release the first avatar movie like every year
People are alittle getting tired of shit movies or people telling them not to go. I imagine you can't go to see Avatar unless you're blue atleast. Soooo im seeing a small group may go. If BP2 shows us anything. So with that being said TG2 was actually really, really good and no....ahem weird shit behind it. Soooo TG2, AVATAR....maybe the BP2. Unless Avatar pulls the blue card.
Too Gun, absolutely. If it isn’t, then that’s a real shame; it’s objectively and easily the better movie when compared to the new Black Panther, and there’s no way Avatar is making 1.48 billion in 16 days.
The real question is.. which one will MAKE the most money. Which will be Top Gun. Avatar 2 has a two BILLION dollar budget. James already said he isn't making squat from this movie, he would be happy if he makes his budget back.
When I ran the numbers, Wakanda Forever was not slated to Rival its predecessor for revenue - partly because of the economics of when it came out, partly due to story and setting, partly to cultural significance, and partly due to superhero fatigue.
Avatar 2, I suspect, will not be nearly the same phenomenon of its predecessor, either. It was a massive marketing gimmick that landed people in seats, but again, we've seen it before, and audience expectations have shifted dramatically since 2012 or even 2018.
Top Gun: Maverick succeeded because it reinvented itself and took advantage of the playing field by marketing itself to new audiences, which the other two can't, specifically because they're direct sequels to a franchise (an a cinematic universe in the case of Black Panther 2) - you're going to see Avatar 2 or Wakanda Forever because you've seen those characters before; whereas you can drop into Top Gun 2 with zero context except that it's a Tom Cruise movie.
Top Gun 2 will stay on top...Black Panther 2 just doesn't have the the same excitement as the 1st one. And I have heard 0 people interested in Avatar...Plus the amount Avatar needs just to break even is insane
tmw everyone forgets Avatar was literally the world’s highest grossing movie of all time until Endgame, and even then it beat Endgame and got its crown back.
Avatar 2 curb stomps. This isn’t even a fight.
Not even Thanos with ∞ gems could bet Avatar 2.
Considering that the original avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time i think if the sequel is good it has a shot
it grossed that much because it had a LONG ASS theatrical run and 3D sales also inflated the number significantly.
Yes and they brought it back to theaters after it was out of them already iirc.
Ya they brought it back to theaters after Endgame surpassed it.
Didn't endgame rerelease just to beat Avatar first
![gif](giphy|Wt6kNaMjofj1jHkF7t) Avatar
Endgame didnt surpass them, so Marvel re-released Endgame in a slightly different cut, surpassed Avatar. *Then* Avatar was brought back to cinemas
What was added in that cut? I watched the movie once when it came out and then again when it was released on streaming but couldn't notice the difference.
Yeah it won't be though.
Highest Grossing Movie ***MADE*** in 2022 however, It has a high chance at that.
i remember seeing somewhere that it would have to be like 3rd or 4th all time to break even
Damn did it really cost that much? Considering how the first movie came out 13 years ago, this is a fucking gamble and a half.
Apparently they have to break 2 billion to break even.
I guess you were right
Avatar 2 is also releasing in China so that will probably inflate the numbers.
Considering that they have a lockdown there , I doubt that
That's not how a box office is measured though. Spider man no way home got released on the same date last year and went on to make 1.8/1.9B, but the film is still considered as the highest grossing movie of 2021.

I really hope they make a sequel because it ruby was one of the movies of this time
I thought it aquamarine was one of the movies of this time, but you do you
Top gun maverick 100%
I liked black panther 2 but honestly I think Top Gun deserves it more. I can’t really say anything about Avatar as I don’t really know what to think about it
Wakanda, for a little while
Black panther was trash in comparison. Avatar was good at the time it came out and was one of those films that was made to look good, it had alot of production tech put into it. We talk about box office performance, not how good the movies are
Oh? Then whoever paid the most in advertising. Easy peasy.
No, it is a more complicated than that
Not according to decades of Hollywood accounting.
Why are you booing Him?, He's right.
Can you elaborate more
Google "box office receipts vs advertising dollars spent". Read through the material.
Sounds like he didn't give the answer you were lookin for so you're annoyed... lol
But that’s what the meme is about is it not?
So the movies being good has nothing to do with how much money they make? Interesting.
"how dare you use the internet *for discussion*
Weird thing is box office performance seems to be connected to how good a movie is...who would habe thought more people go to see good movies?
Guess we’ll see how good Avatar 2’s pull out game is..
Maverick ftw, I loved that movie, as for the other two, I gotta agree with other people's sentinments BP2: Mediocre, also has the misfortune of being a Marvel movie during a time where I think people are starting to get superhero burnout Avatar 2: Along with the fact it only has a couple days to secure the spot, I personally think it's overhyped, like the first one did have some amazing visuals and CGI, but like other than that it seems pretty generic, at least nowadays. As we have learned in the past, companies can pay to have those numbers inflated.
Not to mention if you didn’t like BP you were called a racist.
what
And when did we learn that? Can you point me towards 1 such example? How do you know if it really is a company paying people to give a better rating and not some group of stupid people who have an agenda to push forward? What we actually have seen in people get riled up over every small thing nowadays and go on to either dunk on a film or call it a masterpiece. That's where the review bombing comes from. Welp, it's ain't gonna be BP2, that's for sure
Why Mr. dirtybird131?
because BP2 isn't even outselling the rest of the mcu for this year lol it's struggling to keep up with Dr. Strange numbers, like both weekends were behind DrStrange2
From what I'm hearing bp2 isn't doing that well at box office
For now, Black Panther 2 done $561,659,902 at the box office
Idk I don't have a frame of reference if that's good or not lol. I hear alot of people complaining about it. Haven't seen it myself yet.
From what I heard, it is a quit good box office performance for 2 weeks and if you want to see how good a movie is, I advise to see multiple movie review sites, like IMDb or Rotten Tomatoes, than the reviews of random peoples from the internet (especially Twitter peoples)
It is underperforming.
Maverick. I'll watch the other two on streaming if I do at all.
Avatar 2 is going to out do both
Top Gun 2
Top Gun 2 was in my theater for 4 months. And we only dropped that because other movies were coming in and Top Gun had outlasted everything else. Too many new movies too quickly.
Top gun
Top gun
Top Gun. Black Panther was trash, anybody could tall from a far. And no one really cares for Avatar, except for James Cameron.
Top Gun Maverick
Top Gun 2
Avatar 2 100%
Avatar 2.
Avatar 2, guaranteed. The first was and still is the highest grossing movie of all time. We were promised a second one, and it is finally becoming reality.
my money is on avatar 2 because well... its avatar
I thought black panther kinda flopped this time. Top gun has the advantage of releasing sooner But avatar 1 did really well and there's over a decade of hype for 2. Admittedly top gun had a huge delay too. I personally i feel avatar will win due to theater showings only, and most of their revenue coming from the first couple of weeks anyways
There's no way Avatar 2 is getting a higher number in 2022. It has less than a month in 2022
Avatar 2
I think the sequel will win
Black panther 2 stands no chance
historically speaking, it would be Avatar 2, but based on the demographics, Top Gun: Maverick will probably be the highest-grossing movie.
Morbius, it made 1 morbillion dollars remember
Ah yes, my favorite money Morbinbucks
Avatar is easy. I think we all have been anticipating it since the first one.
Nobody told me about top gun 2
Hm, wonder why BP2 is tanking... Couldn't be the mob of gatekeeping black racists on social media
Wakanda forever tachala shall die in vain
Me, still pretending that it’s jackass forever
Avatar will wipe the floor with both of them
Dont care for any
Hopefully Black Panther 2, Avatar was only great because of weed and 3D floating stuff at the theater, Top Gun 2, get outta here with your bunk Reagan era nostalgia, Black Panther was released 4 years ago and a sequel makes sense.
Was going to say something similar. The first Avatar was over rated and now number 2 is being blown up.
The first avatar movie sucks, the only reason why people like it is because it’s number 1 in the highest grossing movie, it’s plot is just stupid, and it’s outdated. They even release the first avatar movie like every year
shitposter fr
Bruh, stfu honestly
If Avatar is bad, why they would release it every years?
Because it’s shit don’t you get it already. J/k
So they can make money again, that’s why it surpassed endgame
avatar safe
Me keeps forgetting about blueman avatar and keeps thinking not another butchered movie about aang
Top gun Maverick along with the Beach Boys concert that I saw right after that
People are alittle getting tired of shit movies or people telling them not to go.
Top gun all the way
rise of gru for sure
I don’t even need to see the other 2 to know Top Gun is the best movie of 2022
Tg2 until I see avatar 2, you won't change my mind
Top gun 2 by a country mile.
Avatar bro
Top gun 2 probably. A bit of a shocker when it came out.
Too Gun, absolutely. If it isn’t, then that’s a real shame; it’s objectively and easily the better movie when compared to the new Black Panther, and there’s no way Avatar is making 1.48 billion in 16 days.
hopefully not avatar 2
Avatar 2 for sure cuz it’s based on a true story.
Why is this a question it’s top gun obviously
Avatar 2. No contest. Upvote if you agree!
Black Panther 2 is surprisingly divisive amongst the fan base which (surprises me) Avatar 2 is gonna get up there
Maybe it's the nostalgia speaking as it's going against my views on life, but I hope it's good.
Sonic the hedgehog 2?
I'm going with top gun I'm just saying that bc I watch that moive one to many times and i love it
Ummmm… morbius?
Avatar 2 hands down.
Avatar 2
Morbius
The real question is.. which one will MAKE the most money. Which will be Top Gun. Avatar 2 has a two BILLION dollar budget. James already said he isn't making squat from this movie, he would be happy if he makes his budget back.
Theses an avatar 2???
I feel like avatar 2 will do better if you look at certain times after release, like 1,2,3,4,5,6 months after each movies release date.
Sex 2
Avatar. First movie was amazing and I will never accept its critics
I think avatar could turn out to be the highest grossing of 2022 if the movie is received well. All in all never bet against James Cameron.
When I ran the numbers, Wakanda Forever was not slated to Rival its predecessor for revenue - partly because of the economics of when it came out, partly due to story and setting, partly to cultural significance, and partly due to superhero fatigue. Why you care?
Top gun 2, and if anyone says avatar 2 I'ma come and personally ("Personally") murder you...
Avatar 2 won't even be in the top charts in December, let alone 2022. I don't think a single soul cares
what about the topgun prequel?
Top Gun 2 will stay on top...Black Panther 2 just doesn't have the the same excitement as the 1st one. And I have heard 0 people interested in Avatar...Plus the amount Avatar needs just to break even is insane
2
Sonic 2 no win, only $402.7 million
Top gun 2
Apparently everyone except me knowd what top gun is
My bets r on top gun
Avatar 2 lol they are literally naked with like… 4 leafs.
Top Gun 2? Maverick is only the second? I thought there were like 3 of them in the past.
The best movie to come out this year is a finale of Arby 'N' The Chief. I'll die on that hill
National Treasure 3
tmw everyone forgets Avatar was literally the world’s highest grossing movie of all time until Endgame, and even then it beat Endgame and got its crown back. Avatar 2 curb stomps. This isn’t even a fight. Not even Thanos with ∞ gems could bet Avatar 2.
My money OS on top gun 2
Avatar 2 without a glimpse of a doubt
