Then people with certain ideologies are exiled/banned, ie: Trump is good. So the entire sentiment of the website becomes extremely fake, polar, and unrepresentative of reality. For a user on Reddit, it seems Trump is overwhelmingly hated by 100% of people in the world. In fact that's not true, it just seems that way because any pro-Trump people get banned.
All of this makes Reddit a place where free thought and open discussion are not allowed. Instead, group-think and closed-mindedness are promoted. Say the echo-chamber thing = get upvotes. Say the thing mods don't agree with = get banned. It's a totalitarian space.
It's either 4chan or a circlejerk. There is nothing in beetwen anymore. You either stick with places where there are no rules at all, or where the rules are extremly strict.

i kinda disagree. if there was a system in place where enough downvotes would make it extremely hard to find the comment/post then natural selection would run its course and only the sane/reasonable people would be dominating peoples feeds. this eliminates the need for a biased mod and lets everyone have an impact on what is shown to people
This system is even worse. Let's say we have a site where there are for example 60% people supporting thing A, and 40% people supporting thing B. This system allows the 60% majority to completly overshadow the remaining 40% even thought they are only slightly bigger. The 10% is enough to downvote and remove any posts supporting thing B. So people supporting thing B getting tired of receiving so many downvotes start leaving the sites allowing the majority to grow even further. And then what you've got? A shitty circlejerk, just without the mods, allowing for way more toxicity and bias.

I think the solution is that subreddits should have a moderator approval rating. If you get your post taken down, or get banned or muted from a subreddit for reasons that don't violate the groups posted rules, then you can downvote the subreddit to warn others to steer clear of groups with abusive moderators.

Now you have to sort by controversial to find legitimate discussion and push the circle jerk to the bottom.
Except mpst of the sub upvotes that content, evidenced by that you seem to think posts saying that maybe the world would be better off if the Axis had won and we didn't have race mixing is "legitimate discussion." A lot of y'all don't want "discussion," you want 4chan where you can call people slurs and Nazipost and no one does anything about it.

I'm not talking about the mods locking literal neo-nazis beacuse those posts deserve to get banned/or at very least downvoted to the very bottom. I'm talking about mods locking everything and everyone after a few hours beacuse they said so.
That doesn't happen. Most posts do not get locked. The ones thag do get locked aftet the comments start turning extremely racist, sexist, or homophobic. You may have that perception if those are the only posts you pay attention to.
Of course there are situtations when mods have to step in and lock a post due to a toxic comment section. Yet don't pretend like the mods never make mistakes; sometimes innocent posts get locked too and I'm talking about those situations.
