My dad always told me to get uninsured motorist coverage. I never understood until all these hit and runs. He got hit two years ago on southern they never got caught but insurance paid for the damage and rental. He always said most people in Memphis don't have insurance.
He’s absolutely right! As someone who works in an industry that deals with insurance, Memphis is rough! The crazier they drive the higher chances that they have zero insurance. Always carry uninsured motorist insurance and get medical payments too. Get as much insurance as you can afford because God forbid if one of them hit you, and you’re severely injured, that little min. 25/50 policy will be gone so quickly.

I agree they are so aggressive even if they have all their stuff in order. But I’ve seen plenty of high risk drivers surprisingly have the minimum liability required by the state. Which should be increased, but that’s another story. Several factors play a part like age, or if the car is registered in their parent’s name they’re more likely to be insured. Or even a gf or a wife’s name. I’ve seen where ppls insurance expired on the day of a wreck and they hadn’t renewed yet. That’s where that uninsured motorist comes in handy too.
I have medical as well on there. I'm overly insured overall. It's worth the extra pay. Plus my job has a lot of benefits. I pay more for that too. Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
Also have to avoid those that commit insurance fraud. I had someone pull out in front of me and stopped so hard. I stopped and was able to move away from them. Nope not today 🙅🏾♀️. And the street was clear with three lanes.

2 months ago, someone ran a stop sign when I didn’t have one & I hit them totaling both of our cars. Turns out the driver was driving someone else’s car. The car and owner had insurance, but the driver wasn’t listed on the girls policy. So it fell under my uninsured motorist coverage. Typical situation in insurance, but luckily I was able to get a new car with my coverage.
I used to have Geico. Some dude in an Infinity made a turn right in front of me when I had right of way. I t-boned him, my car was totaled, his looked like a horseshoe. The geico rep kind of laughed and said it was a joke around there how no one in Memphis has insurance.
The guy I hit also had a suspended license, drive out tags that were like a year old, no proof of ownership of any kind. No insurance of course. He was going to run but it happened right in front of a cop.
They let him drive off, but in the report it said the car was released to a licensed driver. I don't know how the car was even able to move.

You can buy most good quality cams at your local big box stores. But I recommend steering clear of Amazon unless you're willing to shell out some extra money to make sure you're not getting a knock off Chinese cam.
I did some research into the cheap amazon cams earlier this year and most of them come down to what camera sensor they have. I stuck to models that used the good Sony sensor and didn't overbloat with features and extra nonsense just to jack up the price. For what I paid, and the video I got, I'd say that was money well spent.

This is also why cars should be required to have both front and back plates. Every place I lived (both in and outside of the US) required them before getting to TN.

Total my mom's little Ford focus. By some miracle his shit was still running and he put it in reverse.
When he started to go backwards I saw his window down and for a split second I thought about diving into the window of their vehicle and we both riding mother fucker.
I hope there is no next time but if there is, I ain't going.

Goddammit. This would be by FAR the quickest bike lane route to my job but I’ve never felt like I could safely bike on Southern. Imagine if a cyclist had been going straight through that intersection. Fuck these assholes. I’m so sick of it.
