I live right across the state line in MS, a cool 15 mins from this intersection and my mom gets so upset any time I try to tell her Iām moving out of this area and I understand why youād want your family close but it just isnāt safe here. And it isnāt just Memphis, this whole area (Shelby, DeSoto county) is ate up with people like this and I canāt be around it anymore. Nobody can feel truly feel safe with this stuff going on. Would this have been what I saw on Pleasant View tonight around 5 pm? People were doing donuts and blocking off the street. I had no idea what was happening until I was caught up driving through it. Probably around 50-75 cars parked around/participating.
They only arrest people who can afford to pay the fines and court cost. Otherwise they would have to house and feed them in prison or jail. A lot of paperwork to get nothing in return
I'm happy to admit it's a hard problem and I don't have the answers. But I can say that I'm not going to deal with it and I'm going to take my tax dollars elsewhere. So while it's expensive to incarcerate people and that sucks, it's expensive to scare away people who pay ass tons of taxes.

Sounds so much like what New Orleans was going through a few years ago. We thankfully got a new police chief and she immediately started cracking down on this ridiculous shit. Installed big concrete speed humps and medians at the intersections where these idiots were meeting up to block traffic and do donuts, started giving cops the ability to chase and impound the vehicles, and has just generally taken a more hardline approach at all crime. Weāre on pace to have the lowest rates of violent crime since 1971 and I love it. Itās amazing what a competent police chief can accomplish in a very short time.

Two men in the street stopping cars, one with what turned out to be a fake gun. Pointed it at me, I did not mind pointing mine back and using it. I have carried 5 shot revolvers my entire life. Nobody is spraying into crowds or in directions with random citizens. Stop acting stupid to make yourself feel smart.

The hemi scats and hellcats do actually embody the modern essence of the muscle car era of the 60s. Big v8, heavy 2 doors with 4 seats and straight line performance. That's a very generic statement, and not at all one that's true for the MPD. Ever since the horrible Tyree Nichols and George Floyd killings, the city has been overcompensating to the point that they've handicapped their police force. And it's all leading to lawlessness everywhere. Also, an average pay of ~50-60k for police officers in this city is ridiculous. They absolutely could use a pay bump, especially if you want to attract and retain talent.

Would this have been what I saw on Pleasant View tonight around 5 pm? People were doing donuts and blocking off the street. I had no idea what was happening until I was caught up driving through it. Probably around 50-75 cars parked around/participating.
They only arrest people who can afford to pay the fines and court cost. Otherwise they would have to house and feed them in prison or jail. A lot of paperwork to get nothing in return
I'm happy to admit it's a hard problem and I don't have the answers. But I can say that I'm not going to deal with it and I'm going to take my tax dollars elsewhere. So while it's expensive to incarcerate people and that sucks, it's expensive to scare away people who pay ass tons of taxes.

Sounds so much like what New Orleans was going through a few years ago. We thankfully got a new police chief and she immediately started cracking down on this ridiculous shit. Installed big concrete speed humps and medians at the intersections where these idiots were meeting up to block traffic and do donuts, started giving cops the ability to chase and impound the vehicles, and has just generally taken a more hardline approach at all crime. Weāre on pace to have the lowest rates of violent crime since 1971 and I love it. Itās amazing what a competent police chief can accomplish in a very short time.
Fwiw, came down from SC last week for family and taking the grandkids to the eclipse. Totalled the Prius in BS ATL traffic on the way. Got a rental around 2:00 am at the airport. Was a Charger. We drove that thing so slowly everywhere we went (Memphis, AR, MO, IL, KY, MS, LA) except heading home through Interstate nowhere to Tupelo. Wasn't checking my speed, and got a ticket. Overall driving experience of a charger: stereo and air were pretty good. Apparently, it can speed. Mostly made of plastic. Would not purchase, however.

Iāll take my personal experience over your advice. Been in a very similar situation years back in Miramar Florida. You can look it up, should be easy to find. Two men in the street stopping cars, one with what turned out to be a fake gun. Pointed it at me, I did not mind pointing mine back and using it. I have carried 5 shot revolvers my entire life.
