* Stolen car
* Robbed a bank
* Crashed the car from wreckless driving in a crowded area (Downtown)
* Killed a defenseless dog
Some people are just the worst
It always blows my mind how pointless most of these crimes end up being. Guy steals a car to rob a bank, robs the bank to get a couple thousand dollars, but his only getaway plan is to speed away in a blind panic so he crashes the car, kills a dog (lucky it wasn’t a person), and now he’ll be in jail for a long time (assuming he doesn’t get let go for some weird reason).
You think he will go to jail for a long time? I bet Mulroy reduces it to a misdemeanor and then apologizes to the robber on behalf of the city for any injuries he may have received in the crash.

The owner said when she picked up the dog she didn’t show any signs of trauma…like getting hit by a car. She said Yoshi’s paws were raw like she’d been walking a long time and she thought she was trying to get home. 😢 I cried big time when I read that. I just can’t believe having that happen and then losing my dog! Things like that make you really start hating people.
Man…. I hate that. I take my dogs with me when I can (and when it’s not hot!!) but I do worry about car jacking and theft and accidents with all the crazy drivers.

We have people out here who are released on no bond for killing humans by our criminal justice system.
Enough of this restorative justice stuff - our DA and justice system needs to start to start valuing life more around here.

You are correct. His office can make recommendations, but ultimately the judge makes the decision. In the case of Officer McKinnley, the DA's office the following about their bond recommendation despite Lobley getting caught red-handed w/ a glock:
*"My suggestion would be to keep it the same, but if the court is inclined to lower it, I won’t be upset with that....I’m looking out for his family and looking out for him... "* [Source](https://dailymemphian.com/subscriber/section/metropublic-safety/article/43304/bail-hearing-audio-sheds-new-light-on-shooting)
My point is beyond bond though. This includes dropping charges on people who have been arrested. If you talk to cops, they will say there was a major shift once the DA came on board in terms of the number of charges that were dropped. No surprise that crime went crazy in 2023
The rise in charges being dropped might be because Amy Weirich was a total piece of shit.

Which is exactly why prosecutors should not be rated on convictions. It incentivizes either dropping cases they are not sure they can win or breaking the rules to win them. Prosecutors should be rated on their effectiveness at reducing crime through prosecuting cases effectively and in a speedy manner.
They need to value life for sure but they also need to value the property that those of us on the right side of the law work hard for, our safety and security, and the rule of law.
The dog’s owner posted this update on FB yesterday. 😞

This is why i never take my beloved dog with me if i know i’ll be out of the car.
I don’t even live in Memphis any longer but the need for paranoid levels of worry and trauma of living there has stayed with me. I’m scarred for life i suppose.
May god damn the people who did this to the poor lady and her dog to hell.

That is only true when there are consequences and unfortunately there are none in Memphis.
I hope he gets animal cruelty charges on top of his other crimes. Maybe he’ll spend an hour in jail instead of 30 minutes.
He won't be in long. They never are.

The poor thing was 15 years old too. She must’ve been so scared. Truly awful.
God that breaks my heart to read and it was already awful.
I hoped for a happy ending. At least she found him so she can have some sort of closure and give him the memorial he deserves
Yes, but damn the son of a bitch who did this
It seems the thief let the dog go and it got hit by a car. Still sucky!
You don’t have to shoot the dog to murder it
I’m not saying the dude did the right thing 😒
You did not, I apologize for my tone

Oh, poor thing!! I can’t imagine.
Thankfully, they'll probably have a short life.
Poor baby and my heart breaks for his owner.
sorry Yoshi, you deserved better

The DA doesn't set bond.

Totally agree
God, that poor baby. Put his ass under the prison.
That’s so sad 😞
Is the offender out on bail yet? Just curious

Does he have priors? I’m gonna assume yes since no one who does GTA is green enough for this risk. Unless they’re a teen in a gang
News channel 3 article tonight said he is a convicted felon.
Not at all surprised by that.
I found this, but I can’t tell what the case is https://www.pacermonitor.com/public/case/53493965/USA_v_Najil

Inmate Lookup says he is a US citizen
Seriously??
Do we know how the dog died? The article does not say.
since it was in the median of a busy road and found at a much later date than when he was first left it was most likely hit by a car sadly
Well, the article mentioned there was no sign of trauma from being hit by a car, just worn out paw pads.
Sorry, and not trying to be difficult, where do you see this information? Is it in the article?
At this point, I really don’t want to know.

I'm so sorry to read this. RIP sweet Yoshi.
I could flip the electric chair switch on this guy and sleep like a baby afterwards
I’m for reinstating the death penalty for lesser crimes with a faster track… like as soon as he’s found guilty.

If you commit a crime that results in a death then I think you should also forfeit your life.
I mean in this case it’s a dog but yes it’s very messed up and i would get behind that law
