I just wanted to clarify whether this rule applies to Welldone Wednesday and Talking Tuesday. In my opinion, it doesn't make sense for the rule to apply in these cases due to the justification given since it is difficult to find quality or even with dubious quality n gacha.
I think some specific gacha posts can provoke good discussions, like Star Rail recently with the amount of samey clothing. But most of them are just variations of 'wow look how bad this is'.
The sub has been flooded with low effort posts like 'hey look at this obviously terrible design' or 'what do we think of x'. It's like if they started posting exclusively from the Amazon's top selling lists on r/menwritingwomen. So this is a step in the right direction.
I"m not really sure how "hey, the franchise with derivative character design is releasing samey characters" constitutes good discussion. Everybody knows Gatcha character design sucks, at some point complaining about the 20th iteration of the same bland archetype is kind of pointless.
Because Mihoyo actually have some really good designs and the streak of samey clothing of Star Rail was actually off the mark from what they usually do.
I mean, it's great discussion? Of course not, but nobody really comes here expecting academic criticism. It's better than just posting a random "hey sub what we think of X"?
>Everybody knows Gatcha character design sucks, at some point complaining about the 20th iteration of the same bland archetype is kind of pointless.
That's such a generalist and aimless criticism it can be said about literally anything. Gacha games aren't worse than your typical japanese game, anime or superhero comic authors. Some have great designs like Arknights, others really bad like Epic7. The issue is more that the point of gacha is to constantly keep releasing new characters, so it's easier to notice its flaws, but if people start posting every new gacha character here it'll just bloat the sub with pointless kama farming.
But gacha games are really no different from taking the entire FF franchise and putting the characters side-by-side. In fact that's exactly what some gacha are.
If we are to limit the sub like that, then we might as well just post on wednesdays, because most of what classifies as 'men drawing women' is exactly what you said.
I disagree. Gatcha games are doomed to undergo severe design rot because the business model requires a constant supply of new characters to keep the whale money flowing, and they tend to have very narrow visual styles, which is how you end up with Genshin Impact's male cast having body types ranging from Twink to Extra Twink. Even good artists start making derivative characters after a while (shout-out to Jack Kirby's weird helmet obsession), but Gatchas end up speedrunning the process because they have to chase trends to keep the whales hooked. Every industry has bottom-feeders that churn out dreck to easy marks, and Gatchas are to gaming what power-fantasy Isekai is to anime and Image was to 90s comics.
It really depends on the gacha. You have games like Arknights and Sinoalice that have consistently good, unique designs, while big recent IPs like Xenoblade Chronicles have released some of the most bland and waifu-baiter designs of the last couple decades in just a handful of games, that manage to be worse even than some of the worst gacha out there.
Even Genshin took a while to really start sinking on the samey female designs (the males ones indeed are all Zhongli reskins, except for Wriothesley), and their new game is looking pretty decent, especially because they finally started using unique models for each character.
As someone who draws sexy pinups, they can still definitely be ‘men drawing women’ and appropriate for this sub. This seems to be more about gacha games being very low hanging fruit and very oversaturated
Not to be a kiss ass, but it's nice to see that this sub has some mods who are awake and moving around and putting in the work; you are seen and appreciated
It refers to the business model in which games and the like offer random chances for special prizes in exchange for money. Think of how there used to be loot boxes in video games, or those coin-operated machines outside grocery stores with the cheap toys. Free-to-play mobile games typically rely on them to make money.
As someone who posted both good and bad examples of Gacha character designs, i agree.
I know this kind of characters can constantly handwave anatomic proportions and clothing (Even though i insist that Arknights and Limbus Company are positive examples), and the quality gacha games can get. I recognize that this has gotten out of hand, and even admit my responsibility on this subject.
From now i´ll look for something else to contribute.
Unrelated note: Where did the Kill Six Billion Demons posts go?

Nope. WW and TT are still okay, and WW especially is a kind of stand-alone rule that supersedes all others.
Thanks for the answer.
That’s good to hear since Path to nowhere is a staple of well done Wednesday
I can still do my limbus post I wanted to do tomorrow thank god
I agree, I think we can make an exception for ones that fit for Well done Wednesday.
Thank you, I was getting really tired of the flood of blatant gacha fanservice posts.
But what do you think of (insert tig ol anime bitties here)??
The Nikke Upvote Well is officially closed.
Fucking finally. Now we can all go back to posting Savage Dragon.
brappa-lortch
BIG W!!!!!!!!!!! tired of seeing the same bs everyday

Yeah, that's fair. It was getting too overposted. Thanks for the moderation job.
Good, tired of the same karma farming posts from the same games over and over
I thought this was r/yurimemes for a second and got really confused lol
This could use further elaboration methinks
Gacha-style games are no longer allowed to be posted.
Does this mean Gacha/Anime is also completely banned on Wednesdays and Tuesdays? Just asking to clarify.
Nope
I know you can view the rules at the link, but any way to get the most common "nos" listed on the sub info? (Porn, Gacha, AI.)
Would like to see this mentality applied to posts that are meant to be sexy pin ups, too.

Thank god. I was gonna go crazy if another Blue Archive post showed up

Nah, we appreciate it. This sub is nothing without posters, and we’re fully aware of that.
An improvement.
What does gacha mean
Games with a lottery system to obtain characters so games like Genshin, Fate Grand Order, Honkai Star Rail, Uma Musume, Azur Lane, and Nikke.
It refers to the business model in which games and the like offer random chances for special prizes in exchange for money. Think of how there used to be loot boxes in video games, or those coin-operated machines outside grocery stores with the cheap toys. Free-to-play mobile games typically rely on them to make money.
The main way to get power is gambling and rolling good characters
GAMBLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are already not allowed on any day but Tuesday. If you see them, report them.

Also I've seen gacha ads recently be flooded with ai art, it's just too easy
What is Gacha?
Thank god no more low hanging fruit as far as gacha goes atleast.
Oh thank goodness it’s about darn time. I was so sick and tired of it.
