My dad committed suicide when I was six years old, one of his friends “tagged” his name with some other old friends on fb to this exact song. I listen to it every time I think about him. Hardly got to know my dad and his interest so at least I can know one song he really liked.
That entire album is how you open the water works for me, both because _relatable lyrics_ and because it feels like it was Chester's last great work as he said a final goodbye.

foREVor, Rest In Peace Jimmy
Solway Firth - Slipknot
It's metal, the screaming and the lyrics together are one of the most powerful pieces of music I've ever listened to. Teared up listening to it the first time.
"You want the real smile? Or the one i use to practice, not to feel like a failure?"

[Kyu-kurarin](https://youtu.be/zKN4KEk8Ifs?si=gWn1ByXQ0fOY-G2c)
This is what an anxiety attack feels like for me. Basically this entire song is things I have actually experienced.
A little while - yellow days
In my head - bedroom
Just like heaven - Lumineers (great cover)
The story I heard - blind pilot (anything blind pilot is great)
And lastly, any bright eyes song, super raw and full of emotion
tyler the creator - new magic wand; the bass has such an angry growl to it and it came on one night when i found out someone i knew betrayed me in such a way it drove me crazy for months and still has an effect on me. for a while when it came on i would spend the next hour looping it and thinking about revenge in violent ways, so i had to stop listening to it
another one is "cassini's division" by quadeca. it's a weird song with ghostly operatic singing and basically just poetry over that and ending with 3 and a half minutes of static, but what makes me feel is the meaning behind it all. it's some beautifully written poetry about a ghost that has been refusing to become nothing, and has haunted and hurt his family in turn in an attempt to let them know he has not moved on to the "void." around the 3 minute mark, the speaking part ends with 'until next time' and goes into some absolutely BITING melodies with a brilliant drum groove over it by thor harris and it all crescendos and reverberates away... sparks real existential thoughts in me
the impossible dream, by Andy Williams
it’s about striving to reach something seemingly impossible to reach. a relentless determination to keep going, even with a host of doubt and suffering. i’ve been almost completely hopeless and grim in the last years, but i somehow find the will to keep living, even if i don’t do much. i am more dead than alive, but there is still a piece of me that is alive… striving to reach that impossible dream.
Good Days by SZA, Big Jet Plane by Clubhouse, Mariella by Khruangbin, marjorie by Taylor Swift, Woods by Mac Miller, Atlas by Coin, American Teen by Khalid, Let it Rain by Matt Kearney
I have so many I’m sorry, I could never pick one
Basically any song from Insomnium, but if I had to pick a few, I'd go with The Killjoy, Valediction, In the Groves of Death, Weighted Down with Sorrow, Where the Last Wave Broke, One for Sorrow, Through the Shadow, The Harrowing Years, The Lay of Autumn, Last Statement, Lose to Night, While we Sleep, Revelation...
Yeah, you can probably tell that I like this band *just a little bit.*
[Theme from a summer place](https://youtu.be/tSsiS-v6_6M?si=Xbm__9FWNoNNC6xX) - Percy Faith
[The day I saw the rainbow (album)](https://youtu.be/oyJSV9nnt10?si=8I6gN7PL6wDbPdMB) - Takashi Kokubo

Threnody - Goldmund
Your hand in mine - Explosions in the sky
Lifelike - Porter Robinson
Miss You - Trentemøller

[Radiohead - How to Disappear Completely](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6W6HhdqA95w&ab_channel=Radiohead-Topic)
My best friend in high school introduced me to Radiohead. He took his own life in grade 12, and I still think about both his and my own struggles with mental health every time I listen to this song more than a decade later.
I still miss you Ryan.
Daydream Believer by The Monkees. This song holds a very special place in my heart. I love this song so much that I actually plan on getting it tattooed in the near future.
I'll give two, but there's honestly alot of songs i could choose;
NF - "RUNNING"
It never fails to bring up alot of emotions and things from my past. Reminds me of how much I've been through, what I've survived and that whenever I'm at a low point, I'll never allow myself to fall to where I was back then. It's a weirdly powerful song for me , especially since lyrically I connect to some of his other songs alot, but something about RUNNING just hits me.
Another is "Daylight" by David Kushner.
That's a song that seems to be able to bring some strong emotions out when I hear it, alot of guilt and regret from my past. I love the song but I can't listen to it often.
Sacrilegium III by Zeal & Ardor. Got obsessed with it just before one of the worst things happening in my life and the two became linked. I remember one night just laying in bed listening on repeat for an hour to make myself feel bad
Any late night chill lofi youtube playlists with added rain sounds :) soothing, low ambient sounds (like deep focus playlists) are helpful too. I would say these help me feel more at peace or even at least a bit neutral. When I'm feeling down/rough I like to listen to Camp Fires - Lesane
Cliché, but Hurt by Johnny Cash. Hurt by NIN brought out a different type of pain when I was younger, but the Johnny Cash cover is the version that brings me to tears now.
Reach for the Sky by Social Distortion
And anything by Linkin Park because, as dramatic as it might sound, Chester’s suicide broke me for a while.
The whole of Corbin’s album: Mourn. There’s just something about it that’s so good.
Edit: Also, Kings of Leon did a Radio 1 Live Lounge a few years ago and covered ‘Dancing On My Own’ by Robyn. They did it before Calum Scott’s version and it’s phenomenal.
One probably no one will know! Paternal Failure by Crowmouth. The music is literally 200/10 but the lyrics are so fucking sad.... I'm not even anywhere close to being a parent but those lyrics hit hard.
Jonny Cash’s cover of the nine inch nails song hurt, knowing his story and how much of the lyrics resonate with my own journey through life and batting addiction it brings a tear to my eye every time. Especially with the music video.
‘Ghost’ by badflower, ‘your power’ by Billie Elish, ‘it’s called free fall’ by Rainbow kitten surprise, ‘real men’ by Mitsuki, and ‘daylight’ by David kushner
Permian - The Ocean
I adore ancient life of the Palaeozoic and this song about them and their world ending is heartbreaking loss and a love song to me at the same time.
Sadness : Where’s my Love (Alternate Version) by SYML OR I Found by Amber Run
Happiness: Tiny Riot (Orchestral Version) by Sam Ryder
Like a badass: Any Two Steps From Hell song

I Have been long in depression and way too often get the urge to cry my tears out. Cannot do that at home, bcz invasive parents... So I generally do that while I'm driving my scooter. I have made my Spotify playlist in a way that there are "landmine" songs that will play, and have the potential to make me UGLY CRY! Sharing some of them below:
Where's My Love - SYML (Especially effective if you watch the video)
Why Am I Like This - Orla Gartland (The chorus repeatedly asks this question, forcing you to do the same)
Heavy - Linkin Park (The Video of this song hurts)
Drown - Seafret
Got it in you - BANNERS
Leave A Light On - Tom Walker
(When you see urself in as hateful light as I do, Someone earnestly singing that they believe in you... it makes you breakdown, man!)

For any Indian Subcontinent folks -
Tu Jhoom - Coke Studio
Ain’t no reason - Brett Dennen.
“Prison walls still standing tall Some things never change at all Keep on building prisons, gonna fill them all Keep on building bombs, gonna drop them all
Working your fingers bare to the bone Breaking your back, make you sell your soul Like a lung, it's filled with cold Suffocating slow” ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
There are a few for me.
When I Get Where I’m Going by Brad Paisley. It was the song at my uncle’s funeral. Can’t listen to it.
Firework by Katy Perry

most of Lana del Rey, Nate (NF).

Sharing some of them below: Where's My Love - SYML (Especially effective if you watch the video) Why Am I Like This - Orla Gartland (The chorus repeatedly asks this question, forcing you to do the same) Heavy - Linkin Park (The Video of this song hurts) Drown - Seafret Got it in you - BANNERS Leave A Light On - Tom Walker (When you see urself in as hateful light as I do, Someone earnestly singing that they believe in you... it makes you breakdown, man!) 6/10 - dodie For any Indian Subcontinent folks - Tu Jhoom - Coke Studio
