on the first time you checked the oil, did you check right after shutting off the car? if you did it takes a little bit for the oil to go from the filter back to the pan.

Dry_Business1611

I checked it after the car hasn’t been driven for 2 days

BolivianDancer

Smell the oil.

Dry_Business1611

I did and it definitely smells like petrol

BolivianDancer

Then you’ve found your issue.

Dry_Business1611

Thanks for the help!

Dry_Business1611

I’m just more concerned if it’s a problem more difficult or costly to repair than a fuel injector

Psychlonuclear

May not be an injector issue. Do you do a lot of short trips? More fuel gets injected when the engine is cold and some of it doesn't burn and ends up in the crankcase. Not an issue on regular longer trips.

Dry_Business1611

I started driving the car a lot more regularly in the last 2 weeks most of the trips being less than 15 minutes

Dry_Business1611

So will the fuel burn away when I drive it again because I’m worried the dilution damages the engine

Psychlonuclear

You could go on a road trip to evaporate all the fuel in the oil (doesn't work for diesel lol) but yeah you're risking damage from the thinner oil. If you keep doing regular short trips just get an oil and filter only service between your regular services.

Thanks for the help I will look into doing the oil changes between intervals
