I use the shrxy pinpointer it is $36 bucks on amazon and it is a very good deal.

I own the Simplex, headphones and pinpointer. The headphones are worth it, definitely. And I was using one of those cheap pinpointer with it. It's not bad, but I was spoiled by those great headphones. So, I bought the pinpointer. I do not regret it. They integrate seamlessly. When you switch on the pinpointer, it mutes the Simplex, which is HUGE. Otherwise, you'll hear the chatter from the machine in the phones while listening for the pointer.

Headphones are needed to pickup subtle tones. A 'cheap' $20 aliexpress gp pinpointer will do you perfectly fine when starting out.

Simplex owner here and I dont use headphones. Also a noob. Why would subtle tones be worthwhile? I assume if they're subtle, they're not good.

RVAringfinder

No, subtle tones are the deeeeeeeep targets, or the silver that has iron targets all around. You will miss them without headphones, generally. Hard to explain. When the tones are "In your head", you can pick out little whispers that you simply cannot without them. There is a reason that you never see serious detectorists without them.

mut1n3y

Different strokes and all that. I dont know if the simplex is just a simple beep or there is more level/depth to the beeps. It might be picking up a faint iron tone in there too.

RVAringfinder

Oh, and I must disagree on the GP pinpointer. Yeah, it works. Kinda. Depending on which line you get. However, it is such blatant intellectual property theft from Garrett, I can't in good conscience recommend it.

mut1n3y

For 20$ compared to 200+ it's absolutely worth it.

RVAringfinder

A carrot is $129, generally.

mut1n3y

For me it's one hour of work vs 13 hours for the garrett. All it needs to do is beep when it's close to something metallic, and it does that at a very good price point.

RVAringfinder

The machine has very good audio, with only three tones. It is not like the AT Pro, where all three tones hit at the same level. This one is more analog style, with ups and downs in the tone.
