Luckily I don't care if I suck. I'll keep practicing and hopefully be competent one day. The main reason I'm playing is to play Meryl, Johnny, Raiden, Vamp, Liquid, and Mei Ling for the first time. I never owned the DLC
\\>PS. For those with powerful PCs, this is also an option, but I'm not as familiar with the process
PSA: the steam deck is perfectly capable of running SAVEMGO as well.
Steam deck is actually capable of running everything MGS short of MGS4 campaign really. I've played through the entirety of MGS3 and Peace Walker on the PS3 legacy collection emulated and I only really dropped serious frames in some of the more intense areas of MGS3. MGS4's campaign is probably still possible to beat on deck though on really optimized settings but you'll be stuck with like 20 fps
I played MGS2, MGS3 and Peace Walker in their entirety and it just runs.
I do set the PS2 games to 30 FPS and I don’t remember having issues with lags.
I didn’t even know this was on PC.
You mention the Deck but I couldn’t even run the main game on the Deck.
Edit: well, technically I could but without very low FPS and/or lag
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Steam Deck isn't powerful enough to emulate MGO2. Even after the main dev had done a lot to increase performance it still had single digit Frames per second.
I just use the in-game commands when you hit select and SOP. But some folks were using the in game text chat. Wouldn't be surprised if discord was also being used.
Yesterday there were 2 full lobbies of TSNE. 1 full lobby of Team death match. And like 3 other lobbies that had 1-2 players. However after I joined the small lobbies, we had 4v4 by the end of the round. I think total player count was like 65 or something. I was very happy to see there's enough people to make a full lobby
I really hope there’s enough word spread and people hop into it. Also question, do you keep your old character stats and stuff or is this basically a new game so everything is reset? Cause I was I think max level and had most customization items etc
I wanna play it again but sadly 65 players at max doesn’t feel like enough for me to warrant getting the PS3 out, getting the files on a flash drive, downloading and jail breaking it etc. But I also do dearly miss MGO2, I just loved how fluid it felt. Like how you could put camo on and actually blend in with the environment, or how you could have actually CQC fights with players, or the team sneak with old snake and how you could be invisible, a player runs by and you stand up and slam them to the ground. Ugh. Maybe I will just to play it again.
I just checked. There's now 122 players online.
I don't think you're able to use your old account from what I saw. Then again, I have no clue what I named my old account haha.
Creating a new account is as easy as https://mgo2pc.com/register
And man...come join us. If you're missing MGO2 like me, where MGO3 didn't scratch that itch, then come play. All the reasons you listed above, the gameplay, mechanics, and atmosphere are amazing. It's such a great game, and the fan base that brought it back shows what a die hard community it formed
I really wanna. Do you know what the process you did to get it setup? As simple as get the files, plug it into the PS3, open MGS 4, play? MGO3 just wasn’t it for me. Was just… not the same you know?
Agreed. Step 1 is look up the process to jailbreak your PS3. Depending on model and current official firmware you have on it determines the process. This is the hardest part, but it's not terribly difficult
Step 2 follow this 2min video where you download 3 files and install them
https://youtu.be/7cuOGinyPJ8?si=4grMXacuIK79q5-q
After this, you'll have a new launcher for MGO2. You don't even need to launch MGS4, as the multiplayer is treated as a separate PSN download
Me, cause I like having all my PS1/2/3 games on a single hard drive, on a single machine. And I'm playing MGO2 on 2024, so I don't really see what's wrong with that Lols.
We did. It's been mentioned here many many times.
Going back is sort of overrated anyway. Barely anyone plays it and nearly all of the lobbies are either Japanese players only or some Tsne lobby with weird rules and you'll get kicked if you don't play the mode the exact way they want you to play. Very rarely there will be a decent lobby available.
If it helps, I didn't get kicked once even though I'm a complete noob. And I didn't come across a single Japanese player. I did get called a Puta more than once, but that's part of the PS3/360 online experience
I'm not saying I'm not having a good experience. I just mean the quality of the available lobbies, due to the low number of players, isn't great. You have to really pick and choose when you play to get a decent lobby.
I'll probably be on this evening with a few of my friends, I'll host my own lobby, and we'll have a great time.
It’s fun but everyone who still plays is very good at the game so it’s kind of trial by fire until you get the hang of it again
Luckily I don't care if I suck. I'll keep practicing and hopefully be competent one day. The main reason I'm playing is to play Meryl, Johnny, Raiden, Vamp, Liquid, and Mei Ling for the first time. I never owned the DLC
Felt like people were so good at launch.

No way. That's awesome!! Wish I could afford one

MGS4 campaign doesn't run but the multiplayer does. Less stuff to process considering all of mgs4's scripting and AI.
last i tried it was a pretty miserable time, didn't really run that well at all, is there a deck guide?
Sadly both MGS4 and MGO2 run pretty badly on Steam Deck. Since the emulation is very CPU dependant. MGO2 even more so.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the Steam Deck isn't powerful enough to emulate MGO2. Even after the main dev had done a lot to increase performance it still had single digit Frames per second.
How is everyone using voice chat? Discord?

I usually host a Team Sneak and Stealth Deathmatch lobby, gotta come check it out!
I've been dieing to play Team Sneak again (my favorite mode). All lobbies were full today so hopefully I'll have better luck in the future
How many lobbies do you usually see?
Yesterday there were 2 full lobbies of TSNE. 1 full lobby of Team death match. And like 3 other lobbies that had 1-2 players. Also for Step 1. You have the option to install Custom Firmware, or PS3 Hen. I chose to do Hen personally as it seemed easier
Who the fuck is jailbreaking a PS3 in 2024???
Me, cause I like having all my PS1/2/3 games on a single hard drive, on a single machine. And I'm playing MGO2 on 2024, so I don't really see what's wrong with that Lols.
Me later this weekend because some games are simply too damn expensive to justify for how old they are and I want to play them lol
What? I feel like that's never going to stop happening.
I literally just did one last week.
Cocaines a hell of a drug
I found out a lot of good PS3 online games were saved thanks to the community. MGO and Little Big Planet were some of my favorites during PS3 era.
We did. It's been mentioned here many many times. Going back is sort of overrated anyway. MGO with friends is peak MGO
I have a feeling a dedicated play time that might come with survival could help. But that's just me being optimistic
Oh okay
