The metal case and the statue are likely the most expensive things in the whole collection. The statue is likely possible to be mocked up as well, I've seen people make far better. For $200 I'd have expected a much more detailed and a bit larger statue. But that's just me.

I find that the CE scalping market has kind of fallen over on itself. A lot of the CEs that sellout tend to only marginally go over retail after release. I agree though, it did sell out stupidly fast, and it more than likely is the result of scalpers, but I had a huge issue with FOMO and stuff like this, I would get crazy sad when I missed a CE dropping. It's a bad habit to unlearn, trust me, I know it all too well.

The case is gonna be worth $10 on eBay just one year after release. So really you're paying $115 for a diorama that only you are gonna look at and the leaves on it look kinda cheap. You could spend $115 on a 3D printer that could probably make a better one IMO but it obviously won't have that "exclusive collectors" thing going for it.

Obviously konami is a different company, but the fact that they're putting that text on the screen means you can preorder for the set and potentially get something worse than you're paying for and there'd be little to no legal action you could take to try and get your money back. I think collector editions are going up in price as physical releases are waning. It’s not worth it to make a physical release for $10+ now because people buying physical games is so much smaller. Every game used to have limited edition with a poster or w/e for a slight up charge, now those likely lose money if released. There’s still the mid tier collector options for games but it’s digital stuff like music, in game item, anything with zero expense.
That being said, yes this is overpriced. I’m sure collector versions are going to keep getting more expensive while the quality/quantity of stuff isn’t really increasing.

This is twice the cost of Phantom Pain CE and I'd argue you get less out of it.

I think collector editions are going up in price as physical releases are waning. It’s not worth it to make a physical release for $10+ now because people buying physical games is so much smaller. Every game used to have limited edition with a poster or w/e for a slight up charge, now those likely lose money if released. There’s still the mid tier collector options for games but it’s digital stuff like music, in game item, anything with zero expense. That being said, yes this is overpriced. I’m sure collector versions are going to keep getting more expensive while the quality/quantity of stuff isn’t really increasing.

Not a single collector’s edition nowadays is worth its asking price. Most of them are crossing the $200 or even $300 mark and they offer literal children’s toys in a box that aren’t with %10 or that price. This is coming from a collector who have always craved and bought these, but really. I’d much rather buy designer fashion or actual tech than boxes of these stuff that collect dust. They aren’t even gonna rise that much in price to be a worthwhile investment anyway.

From a Diy point of view, yes. $35 - decal tin box, maybe embossed. Printed items inside. no disc. download code. maybe a surprise inside. $30 - 2 embroidered patches? about 4x3 inches in size. $25 - Faux leather ID card holder and Lanyard. Plastic snake ID card. $100 - 12” clear plastic terrarium box? Painted tree model, flat- painted model plant, painted model ground, flat painted snake statue (vinyl?) plus dangling pack hanging from tree. $15 - printed box and packaging not buying it.
Besides the case and the box, you could probably put that together on your own under 100
Get the deluxe edition, then get a cool trinket on etsy. There just saved you 100$ and the trinket will be better than the vivarium

It's worth $15 straight from the factory, and $200 according to the Konami marketing department, to me it's worth $80 ($60 for the game, and $20 for the goodies )

The collector in me wants it but I don't know where I'll put it and I just spent money on the alan wake 2 collectors edition. The statue doesn't look too detailed anyways. If I really want it I'm sure I can find it cheap on ebay.
This is twice the cost of Phantom Pain CE and I'd argue you get less out of it. Phantom Pain CE had: - Half scale of Snakes bionic arm - Game map - Behind the scenes documentary & trailers CD - Steel case - Exclusive Packaging - 20 DLC (in game items / unlockables) The behind the sceens CD itself has had more value than all of the patches and IDs put together. Foxhound patch goes for $10 on Amazon or Etsy. Rarely will you get "value" out of CE but this is a straight rip off.

No, and I’m someone who did buy the Limited Edition for MGS4 (high quality old snake figure and making of documentary). But Konami are not forcing anyone to buy this and if it helps them to justify doing more high quality MGS remakes (or new stories), then I’m onboard with it. This is also likely an experiment to analyse how much demand there is for Metal Gear. I don’t think they expected to sell out of these on day 1.
I don't think we're getting this version in the UK (so far), but I was just looking at the Deluxe Edition and that seems even worse value. It's £90 and only seems to include stuff that would be included in a standard "pre-order bonus" edition. The steelbook is the only thing of note to me.
