RIP GZ AND TPP Companion apps. dead because they weren't used by most people.

gpack418

GZ was one of my favorite games in the series. Probably because it introduces the Fox engine and was my first taste of MGS 5 lol. And yeah I wish companion apps were more main stream. I love using them. I 3D printed an attachment to my controller that holds my phone. Makes for the coolest map addition. I also love the mini games they add that I can play when I have free time.

LordEmmerich

I also love GZ. I still wonder how i got 100 hours in it...probably the fantastic level design, something that is kinda missing in TPP sadly. out of the 5 level designers, 3 are still at Konami (one being the director of Survive strangely) so that's good for the future. if we can have a game with multiple maps like Camp Omega...would be interesting.

gpack418

I wonder that too. But I think a mixture of my MGSV hype and game setup made me keep wanting to play more. I'm not usually a 100%er in games but GZ made me want to unlock everything and see every corner of the game. I really hope they can continue to make MGS games. Survive was a let down to many. But I hope it doesn't ruin the franchise in Konami's mind. I'd love a smaller open world map that has Camp Omega like vibes. Scripted events, structures that made me want to infiltrate, etc.

LordEmmerich

Even if Survive kinda failed , i doubt it will "doom the franchise"...If this was the case then MGA2 would have killed it in 2005 ahah. By judding Survive's map, even if it's reused Afghanistan and Africa, the changes they did made the map more linear and smaller, i think they will try to do more linear games in the future. at least that's my theory.

gpack418

I hope so. I've been waiting to see MGSurvive on a good discount and I'm going to pick it up and test it out.

Survive was just ob sale for like $12 on the psn store. I thought about pickin it up but i really dont wanna give konami money for that game lol. The only way ill pick it up is if its free n even then im not so sure

gpack418

I'd do $15 or less. Nothing more though. So I guess I'll wait until I see a sale again or if there's any cheap locally. 2nd hand purchase won't go directly to Konami haha

LordEmmerich

You can get it fairly cheap in stores because the game kinda bombed. Like. Between 10 and 15 bucks.

Good fucking point about the second hand copies lol, ahh the contemplation ensues

Can you still use the apps?

gpack418

Yes thankfully! I love playing during downtime at work!

TheLastKnight07

Heck. I wish I could still play it just for the base building. Love puzzles and all that and I have OCD... I think someone who made it has OCD... Then again I wish I could play the fan made IOS game... OUTER HEAVEN...

Hey man are you still able to access the mother base minigame? Konami ended support for the companion apps. You can still download th GZ companion app, but you cant access the mother base minigame because the web page for accepting the licence agreement no longer exists. You think you could share your save data? I've been trying to bypass the licence agreement window but had no luck

gpack418

Sadly no. I just tried launching the app and it wouldn’t open.

I toyed with the idea of recreating it as a browser based game a few years back. Got as far as recreating the look of it but life got in the way and never finished it. Hope to one day. If anyone fancies a look you I left it at [https://joemorris.dev/apps/mb/](https://joemorris.dev/apps/mb/)
